Great, youtube on AppleTV. Now you can watch 320x240 videos on your 1280x720p or 1920x1080p TV! WHO GIVES A ****

Get the ****ing HD downloads on iTunes already, and the number of AppleTVs sold will increase by at least 5x.

1080i, appleTV doesn't do 1080p

My apple tv is connected to my 576p EDTV so Youtube vids will look cool.

interesting...

1:08pm - You don't have a video service for the iPhone...

Sure we do... it's iTunes. Not over the air. People have tried it with music and it's failed. Part of the reason that it's failed is the phone isn't the best place for discovering music or browsing catalogues. Then there's the cost of wireless vs. terrestrial internet. Then you get it on your phone you have to sync it back to your PC... we've got 100m iPods we've sold that people know how to sync, they know how to buy music on iTunes.

1:09pm - So you have no plans to put any version of the iTunes store on the iPhone itself despite the fact that you have a big screen and non-baby OS?

We certainly have nothing to announce today.

so, take your favorite movie of all time.

compress it to upload to youtube.

turn on your 105", tune in to youtube, and watch it.

Do you enjoy that movie now?

Why in the hell would I do that? The media I WANT to see in better quality is AVAILABLE to me in better quality. Don't like YouTube quality? Don't watch it on a big screen! Simple as that! Watch it on your tiny screen. But I'd prefer to watch it on the big screen because...again...it's YOUTUBE, I KNOW the quality sucks, and anything I watch I watch for content.

...but you're saying your favorite media of all time is on YouTube? That's kinda sad....

n00b fights back. Good job.

I agree. I DO watch for quality. I don't like compressing a DVD, let alone watching a web video. Just me, I guess. If I'm going to put so much money into a HT setup, then I want it to look pretty, too. Otherwise, might as well go back to the 27" CRT...

Isn't this supposed to be both Gates and Jobs? If someone can please clarify when Gates is coming, you'd be a great helP!

RIGHT, and 3G IS the real internet...ANYWHERE WITH CELL SERVICE...AT BROADBAND SPEEDS!!! Not everywhere by me has Wi-Fi yet and cities aren't blanketed yet. What if I'm driving out to the boonies for a shoot and I get lost. I'd rather be loading up Google Maps on 3G than Edge any day.

If your driving out in the boonies then your probably not getting much of a signal anyways.

Cingular covers like 97% of my state but still it goes out in certain areas.
For some reason I doubt I'd get broadband speeds with just 1-2 bars or no signal at all.

Is it just me or was that the biggest waste of SJ's time... I mean come on...
if you could ask SJ anything wouldn't you come up with some better questions then, Shouldn't the Iphone come with a keyboard?

(reporter) Does the Iphone have a keyboard?
(SJ) No
(reporter) Are you sure?
(SJ) Yes
(reporter) are you really sure?
(SJ) Yes
(SJ) thats all the time I have, good bye
(crowd) AWWWWWWW

I mean if I had that chance i'd want to hear his opinon on leopard's secret features like
how do you think that leopard will complete with vista even though vista has been out for like 6 months already?

Don't encourage them...;)

does he really expect people to watch youtube on their 60" HDTV's? Thats why its stupid. And no, I was not expecting a big announcement. Actually expecting nothing...

expecting that the quality of youtube stays that bad forever is also not very wise. in one year the quality of many youtube videos will be twice as good (or half as bad) and therefore enough to see foreign news, funny homevideos and stuff. it's just that you have to get into the market NOW to get the customer base before microsoft gets it........

Aw MC, don't twist his logic.

You said "I watch media for content, not for how pretty it looks." His response was valid.

Q: All indications appear that the iPhone is closed, we'd love to develop apps...

This is an important tradeoff between security and openness. We want both. We're working through a way... we'll find a way to let 3rd parties write apps and still preserve security on the iPhone. But until we find that way we can't compromise the security of the phone.

You even highlighted the parts I was referring to. How nice!

"so far there ain't a lot to do with them."

SO FAR...nobody has a device like the iPhone that is WORTH taking advantage of those services.

These phones aren't capable of taking advantage of it. You've used the internet on your phone, it's terrible!

Right, because the PHONES out there right now are total crap. And the internet IS terrible on my phone. It doesn't have the screen or UI of the iPhone, hence why 3G is the perfect venure for more advanced features the iPhone is MEANT to take advantage of.

people want the REAL internet

So if the iPhone is the answer, and WILL provide features WORTH taking advantage of 3G... why omit it.

The Youtube plugin will likely be what gets me to buy the aTV. Like others, I care more about content than video quality.

You get "support" from this:

To me, that sounds like 3G bashing (with valid arguments, albeit), and a justification on why they opted to stay with EDGE instead. But honestly, on a $500 phone, I don't care whether it's the most utilized tech RIGHT NOW - it's the best out there and should be included regardless. The "REAL" internet has its shortcomings on a phone, too - one of which is you're not necessarily guaranteed a Wi-Fi spot everywhere you go.

Why do you think "real" internet means a Wifi connection? Aren't the 14Mb/s on a 3G network "real" enough for you?
In my opinion, real means that you have a standard browser and not some WAP crap. So Real internet has nothing to do with 3g vs. Wifi.

The question is, why does Jobs talk about how great At&t's efforts are to build this 3g network, if the iPhone can't benefit from it.
Maby the iPhone will indeed be 3G....

Hide from competitors? Dunno

if the iPhone has built in Wifi, will i be able to use the Sprint WiMAX service when it comes out here in Chicago?

thats my point, he said content, not quality.

And no, my favorite content is not on youtube.

I see your point, but it's foolish because we're talking about two types of content here. I EXPECT my movies at a certain quality level, whether I'm watching them or not. I DON'T expect YouTube to be anywhere NEAR that level. I EXPECT it to look like crap on a 15" screen, why should I expect any different on a 105" screen. So I find the argument of "YouTube movies will look like crap on a big screen" a little redundant because YouTube movies ALREADY look like crap. If you're going to YouTube to expect anything OTHER than content, you're going to the wrong place

I think "real" internet means a Wi-Fi connection because it's Jobs that's saying it. He's not including 3G.. at least he hasn't publicly said he is, anyways. Therefore, if he's talking about "REAL" internet that "[Apple] is going to deliver" he is clearly not talking about 3G - he's referring to Wi-Fi.

My point all along is the 3G IS "REAL" internet.. and should be included on a $500 phone - regardless of whether or not it's utilized to its fullest right this moment. Does Jobs think that people aren't going to be keeping their iPhone for years? I don't know about anyone else, but if I dish out $500 on a phone, I'm not upgrading for at least 2 years.. by then, I'm going to be VERY frustrated by the lack of 3G.

Jobs and Gates together should be fun... I would love to watch that interview.

Jobs is so articulate and good with the media, and Gates is almost the exact opposite.

This is the FIRST version of the iPhone and 3g is far from universal in the US, never mind just regular coverage.

Ergo, the extra money it would cost to chip and program for 3g would not be used in the first version as much as it will be in the updated version they release in a year or so with all new updates, OLED screen, etc. At that point they can roll out the 3g model.

If you live somewhere in the US with 3g and enjoy using your phone to do that, great, but not everyone has that luxury or wants to pay for it.
