What are you missing by not having Flash?

All of the website I go to either have an iPhone-friendly version or the only flash on the site is ads, which I don't care about.

What are you hoping to do in Flash that you can't already do on the iPhone?

Hulu probably wouldn't work anyway, because they block just about every device except a PC, and I doubt most games would perform well at all.

Mobile site versions generally such and are not full featured.

Browsing in iOS is not a great. Flash missing has been a big gap.
Getting rid of Flash has been a great improvement for the internet. Since iPhones have been one of the most popular smartphones and don't run flash now most websites have reduced their use of flash to just some ads. The internet has changed a lot for the better in that area since this thread was started when you actually needed flash for some sites.

Well, now that this has been resurrected, what the heck...

Back in 2010 when this was a hot topic, I fully understood SJ's logic but also wish I had Flash on my iPhone/iPad, because there were still a ton of websites that relied on it. I remember being in a hotel with my family planning a trip to the San Diego Zoo and then a restaurant for dinner. I was using my iPad to research options. Both the zoo and restaurant websites were pretty much unusable without Flash. That sucked. I actually had to remote into my work PC from my iPad to view those sites.

But Steve had a vision, and mobile Flash was so bad that it really wasn't a reasonable option to put it into iOS. So he stayed the course.

Fast forward five years. I can't remember the last time I ran into a Flash website on my iPhone. Most pages are coded in clean HTML5. My battery life remains great and all apps are coded natively and run well.

Nice going SJ.

Flash isn't available on any mobile platform at this point and I don't even have it installed on the Macs I use daily. There isn't anything important I'm missing without it.

Every day I hit sites that do not run properly in Safari. If that's not flash related then whatever it is...it ruins my experience.

I guess people finding new ways to troll by resurrecting old threads that are no longer relevant?

Well, being as the thread is without a doubt resurrected, I think it's interesting to point out that Apple still has SJ's open letter, Thoughts on Flash, live:

I remember my first iPhone how bad I wanted flash. There were so many sites I couldn't get to and my Droid using friends thought they were the cat's meow. Now, I've all but forgotten that wanting flash was even a thing.

Thank you, Steve. You led the crusade on this and it paid off. We all have a better web now.

Now look what you have done

I am not disrespecting him or cursing him. Just saying we need to respect people who are devoting their lives to make other peoples life easier or trying to make a change in positive ways. No matter if the person SJ or BG etch...

I would hate to be a the guy who spent a boatload of time and money to learn Flash.

Ahh I remember those days, except it was reversed! I HATED the idea that iPhone's didn't have Flash, so I went to Android while all my friends stuck with iPhones. I thought I was the cat's meow, despite me using Flash maybe 5 times throughout my Android days.

Then my father jumped on the "I hate iOS because no Flash" bandwagon, and he got an Android tablet over an iPad solely because of Flash. It was even advertised on the box (ASUS transformer I think it was). God-awful experience, Flash was on there. Crashed constantly. But he had it, and that's all that mattered at the time.

We used to have an in-depth Flash program at my school. Now all the courses, save for one (the Fundamentals of Flash course) are axed. Not sure why they even offer that one, as you only learn the very basics. Anyway, it's sort of bittersweet seeing it die out.

Sorry I meant look at what you have done as in reviving an old thread. It was meant as a joke.

However you did drag up a really old thread.
