Is it looking like the Ashton Kutcher movie might actually have a higher box office total then?

Though it isn't released in the UK until this week, so hopefully it will at least make a small profit for the studio.

Or you could think for yourself.
That's harsh. Everything the majority of people know about Steve Jobs comes channelled through third-parties who either never met the guy, or met him only briefly. This guy should ignore what people who worked directly with him have to say on the subject? Sounds wise, frankly.

Decent movie - but it's basically a movie about a man who disavows his daughter's existence until the last 15 minutes of the film... that's not the Steve Jobs movie most people wanted to see. Additionally, Woz apparently wanted Steve to acknowledge the Apple II team decades after discontinuation -- yea, no.

I worked in the Valley for a long time. It's not untrue, IMHO. I see it differently. More like that now that he is no longer among us, history is being rewritten as a softer gentler version.

That said, I am all for doing one's own research and thinking for oneself. This guy is not doing that.

Now move it to midnight showings, hire some people to call out lines in the theater til it becomes a fad and make it a cult movie. This is how Rocky Horror was relaunched after failing in daytime theater runs!

To me the film is just a rude exaggeration of Steve. Doesn't make him look like a person more like a robot. And that just isn't who he was. The film is mean spirited in my opinion.

I'm glad it flopped, Sorkin and Boyle should be ashamed.

The movie could have the best critic ratings, etc.
The problem is our current generation. People nowadays lose interest quickly; too many distractions, too many things going on. Today's news are forgotten tomorrow, and replaced with tomorrow's news.

The O.J. Simpson's trial wouldn't have the same media success today as it did when it happened.

In other words, this movie was released 4 years too late.

On top of that most people already believe they have heard enough information about Steve Jobs, to now assume they know what the movie is about.

No one cares about a Steve Jobs movie. Three movies made about him a few years after his death is silly. Find me another modern movie about some major figure this soon after his death.

As I have argued all along, this will be a movie to stream. This was never a movie, IMHO, that was worthy of the theater experience. Home theater seems appropriate for this movie. My guess is that it will do fine in the streaming/rental market. Also, I suspect this is not a movie people will own. See it once and then move on.

Can't say i'm surprised but did you know Howard the Duck did about the same? It's sort of a cult favorite now but at the time, ruined careers.

The biggest problem was how they rolled out the film. Lots of people had heard about it many weeks ago, and wanted to see it, but it wasn't at their local theatre. Then when it finally was, the hype had already died. What a screw up, it was a good movie.

Good thing movies get a second life in Netflix and similar services. :D

Hahah! I remember Howard the Duck! Yeah, that was a funny movie, like The Dream Team.

Let's keep in mind that movie theaters are a business just like any other. Movies themselves are "inventory". If something isn't selling, they will drop that inventory.

Our Brand Is Crisis and Burnt are going to flop just as hard (if not harder) in next weeks ratings list.

IMHO, this should have been at best a movie released on demand or a TV movie.

Still quite surprised that it's taken so long to reach foreign markets. I was eager to watch it in October, but now at mid-November with a UK release date this Friday, I'm kinda over it. Seems they really stuffed themselves with the release schedule.

The target market for this movie is Apple enthusiast with an interest in Jobs. Since most of the movie didn't have the facts or proper representation, of course it would flop. I didn't even like the Social Network much other than the characters that played them.

Going to the theater is really expensive. I only go when its a movie that benefits from the big screen, and wait for Netflix/Redbox for everything else. I plan to see the movie, but will do so when its available in one of those two options. Sri-fi and Action movies get my theater money.
