Actually there is a school of thought that says lower weight leads to longer longevity. In fact a low calorie diet rich in whole grains and fiber along with essential nutrients is what one scientist (Ray Kurzweil) is taking and he claims he got rid of his diabetes and is now looking and feeling 10 years younger than he did 10 years ago.

So, may be Steve should quit eating ice cream and remain healthy. All that milk fat is hard on the liver too.

Not too low, though. Extremely thin people have higher risk of bone fractures when they get older (not enough cushion to soften the blow, and extreme thinness is often accompanied by calcium deficiency). Regular-sized to moderately overweight women also have fewer problems with menopause because the body can draw from the estrogen stored in fat.

(yeah yeah, [citation needed] and all that...)

There are plenty of ways to regain weight, and still be healthy and vegetarian. The aforementioned Burger King's BK Veggie can definitely help (hold the mayo, though-- extra cholesterol is not good for the liver). There are also soy-based "ice cream" confections that taste quite good, and there's always Silk, which has no cholesterol yet contains a good bit of polyunsaturated fat. Decaf soy latte, Mr. Jobs?

I've got that same feeling that the camera (video/still) will make its way to the touch. Users want it. It may take a bit, but it will come. Just like firewire back to the smaller macbooks and the option of matte for the displays on the 15" now. I would have pulled the touch trigger if the camera was there... I think I will just wait now.

Good to see Jobs back. The iPod touch as a gaming machine makes since I guess. I do think it is moving away from being an iPhone substitute.

the best way to gain healthy weight is to eat 3 PBJ sandwiches and chocolate milk before you go to bed. your body cannot break it down and it goes to your muscles

hahaha, i hope you are joking, because if not, this is seriously the worst piece of nutritional info I have ever read. Completley false. The only thing that would be good for is putting on fat.

Good to see Steve back!

I can understand wanting a entry level model at an inexpensive price point. But there is no valid reason to me why the more expensive models do not have the video capabilities or even an internal mic!

I also wish they would have done something with the back to make it more scratch resistant.

Looking forward to see the new Nano in person, nice upgrade. Although I also wonder how it will hold up to scratches.

Yeah, makes you realize one of the reasons why there are so many obese people.

I am honestly quite disappointed the camera was omitted from the iPod Touch. Aside from making it as a gaming device, Apple also said it is "a great pocket computer" and a good handful of portable computers include a camera for use as a webcam, and photo and video taking. From the gaming device angle, the Nintendo DSi has a camera in it, and there was even a game demoed in the Keynote where the user could put there face on a wanted photo - but clearly syncing a photo to your iPod touch and then uploading it into the game is the easiest way to accomplish this...

this is a scandal.. obviously the touch was supposed to have a camera in it and the manufacturing process had problems.. therefore it wasn't in the keynote.

Now to not drop sales horribly for the christmas season, Jobs is marketing it as a gaming device..

come on guys

I'm sure it was already said, but imo if they give the touch too many "iphone like" features I think some people would buy a touch and a flip phone over an iphone. I have a work phone that I can make my calls on, so theoretically if a touch did everything that my iphone does minus the phone part, why would I need to deal with the hastles of contracts, subsidized pricing, etc...

Thats why I think they're keeping the touch as a gaming unit, and the iphone as an all in one unit.

all I can say to this interview is that Apple made an error in judgment in deeming the iPod touch a "gaming device"- in my eyes, it's an iPod first, gaming device second... though considering I never play games, I guess that'd put me in the minority of people who still view the iPod touch as a portable media player and miniature computer, not the gaming device that Apple continue to play it up to be. I had a bad feeling about this latest refresh from the point that Schiller segued into talking about/demonstrating games after mentioning the iPod touch, and I'll be hanging onto my $400 until Apple get their act straight.

Nothing Jobs said makes any sense. Apple has time and time again said it would not entire the Netbook market because it does not make cheap products. Now Jobs is saying that they did not improve the Touch because they want to make a cheap product.

apparently you aren't aware that the words "cheap" and "inexpensive" are not synonymous... in regards to not making "cheap" products, Apple have opted for not selling low-grade, cheaply-made products like a majority of other computer/electronics manufacturers; however, his reference to the iPod touch was about its pricing (i.e. making it more "inexpensive") and had nothing to do with the quality of the components that it is made with. unfortunately, too many people have the impression that these words can be used interchangeably.

I did not know a fish was a vegetable. Either you are a vegetarian or you are not.;)

actually, said people are called "pesco-vegetarians" (i.e. eating a vegetable/grain-based diet and fish on the side to supplement dietary requirements of meat), while someone who eats a strictly plant-based diet and eats no animal-derived foods would be properly categorized as "vegan."

Anyone know if an iPhone 3G without an AT&T plan can be used just like an iPod touch? I'm just interested in it working over Wifi but having access to the camera and GPS. I'm sure there is someone out there looking to unload theirs and buy a 3GS.

yeah, like all the expensive design software that apple uses didn't give a warning that the camera was too big for thinner Touch before they sent it to manufacturing or that the first test units didn't do that either. it was all found in the last week.

face it, the camera rumors became too much and people expected a camera so Apple had to make up this manufacturing issue so people won't be let down anymore than they are.

There are probably plans for a camera in next years model because apple has good data on how many people they expect to upgrade and they don't think it's worth it putting a camera into this year's model.

I bet the photos we saw are test units for the 4th Gen ipod touch. ARM is sampling the next version CPU's and it makes sense to have test units of next year's product for testing now

If you're buying an iPhone over a touch just to get a camera you're very weird. You can buy yourself a very nice SLR for the price difference (including contract).

There are two things the iPod will never have that are significant. The first is internet everywhere. Wifi isn't everywhere and far from seamless in the places it does exist. You can't walk down a block without having to switch from one Starbucks to the next. The second is the actual phone. Many people want an easy to use phone with a nice address book, etc... There has not been a dumb phone yet with an address book that isn't horribly designed.

Essentially, I don't think the iPhone and the iPod touch will merge or really start to have significant cross over until the current phone companies are out of the picture (easy to use wireless everywhere for voip or similar).

The only reason for Apple to not include a camera in the touch right now is because they don't want to due to design and cost reasons (I find it funny that Apple cares about gaming, yeah right after Mac gaming died you suddenly care hah). I doubt they gave us the full reason but I doubt one of those reasons is it would compete with the iPhone too much.

As many of you know Steve is Vegetarian and he only eat fish (very little)... how can he gain weight???

If he eats fish he is a pescatarian, not a vegetarian. There are fatty fishes, like salmon. There are also other high fat, high protein foods like nuts. Many fruits and vegetables have sugars which, if not burned off turn into fat.

Considering what you get in a Mac today, they are cheaply-made aka I would have agreed with you totally up until Apple decided to replace steady intel chipsets with crappy nVidia/nForce ones and nix all the other features now gone. Especially without any reasonably, relative change in price. Today they are, cheap machines clad in expensive 'armor', nothing more. Overblown netbooks if you will. If you know about the previous build-quality of older Mac's, you know what I'm talking about. Sure, you paid $$$ for it back then but you also got what you've paid for.

It's like Jaguar going Volvo or something - not too bad but not what you've been looking for.

It would be interesting to see how many people bought 'Mac' for access to OS X or because of the Apple-designed hardware alone today? Ie. how would the sales figures look like if OS X was readily available on most common computer hardware? Imho OS X, if anything, is where the money (and value) is, not the hardware.

He needs to eat some angry whoppers from BK, he'll gain some weight eating those jimmies. They are good too.

Here's Jobs this time next year:

Anyone that believes Steve Jobs is telling the truth is drinking the Kool aid, plain and simple.

Come on people it is very simple:
1)Camera and GPS on ipod touch would corrode the iPhone sales
Apple is only concerned with their profits (as they should be)
They make more from the iphone then the touch
2)They will sell more of their ipod nano's and are fine with the level of sales of the touch. Their profit margin is higher on the nano. You know why? They have no competition in this market now. Who else is selling a nano equivalent with Apple's history?

Please try to follow the money, it is all that matters in the end.

My advice, the only worthwhile thing to buy from apple is their stock. It is time to look elsewhere for innovation.

I agree with you 100%. It is funny you bring up the jaguar analogy. I use the same car when I tell people about apple but in a different way. I tell them when you use to buy a jaguar you were buying a quality car with a rich history that was worth every penny (my first jag was a 69 e-type). Now when you buy a jaguar (ford owns them) it feels like you are getting into a taurus with a big shinny jaguar on the hood. The thing feels horrible and runs like crap. They have one REAL jaguar and the rest are mass produced at the ford plants. This is truly what apple has become.

I did not know a fish was a vegetable. Either you are a vegetarian or you are not.;)

Fish eaters are Pescaterians.

And the PB and J with Milk comment was absolutely wrong wrong wrong. Don't give such unfounded advice like that to the public. Eating 3 PB and J sandwiches and Chocolate Milk will only flood your body with sugar.

Gaining weight as a vegetarian is easier than you think. Oats and Peanut Butter with Whey Protein is tried and true in the weight lifting arena.

You want to build muscle and store nutrients: eat steak.

More terrible advice.

for the last several years they keep saying we've got some really good things coming up.

for the last several years i keep waiting. and waiting.

and waiting.

Last several years?

Umm, original iPhone + subsequent revisions.
Ipod touch and revisions.
