Come on Steve make me spend a months pay on a great phone and something to put in my living room.

I'd hate to tell you what to spend your money on but a month's pay?
iPhone $299 + ATV $229 = $528

If I was making a bit over six grand a year I don't think I'd be buying much besides food...

Good luck:D

I think it's important for Americans to remember that the iPhone is an international device and plenty of us are using it on different international carriers with zero problems.

And it also good to remember that the majority of people are quite happy with AT&T. I know dozens of people with iPhones and they are all happy. The minority that live in areas where there are problems make plenty of noise though. I'm sure as well that if I was one of them, I would be complaining too.

Which will (if history is a guide) get 2.5 hours of battery life running that Flash and get hot enough to fry an egg on.

The more people buy and use Flash-less iPhones and iPads, the more they realize missing Flash is a minor, occasional inconvenience more than a deal-killer. Which is becoming even more rare as more and more sites move to Flashless alternatives (HTML5, dedicated native apps).

I'd love to have an iPhone that gets 2.5 hours of anything-time let alone Flash time, haha.

.... of course it can't help that here in San Francisco my phone keeps itself busy by "Searching..." for service... lol

I agree wholeheartedly. Steve may curse, (google's mission statement is bullfeces.), but he is the CEO, and deserves a high level of respect. Similarly, I can't stand our president, but you will never hear me addressing him in any way but full respect.

He's just a man and deserves no more respect than any other (that goes for anyone, president, CEO it does not matter).

I am SO glad that a lot of consumers hoping and wishing for new iToys and iPhones and colorful back coats are looking to a Developer's Conference for the next thing.

I personally am hoping to see that updated Mac Pro that we've been waiting a year or more for.

Or an announcement that Apple is actually going to do something REALLY breakthrough and 'magical' in the tech industry besides just make the current stuff bigger. ;)

If you read my sig you would know that I have a 3GS thus won't get the 299 price as it came out less then 12 months ago, and I want the biggest one they will offer....that and I work in in Fine Arts....

and that 229 is for the current useless ATV...if they actually a make it into what I need and want I'd play at least double

Apple has great design, but Android is giving it a good run with 2.2.

I am assuming at WWDC Jobs will announce MobileMe as a free service, to play catch up to Google's cloud (although MobileMe sucks comparatively).

Steve will probably also present front-facing camera, LED flash and 720p on the iPhone, and all the fanboys will think Apple invented all those things (Android already has them).

The problem for Apple is that there is a slew of Tegra 2 and Atom D6 phones and tablets coming out in the next few months, all with Android 2.2 and all with great browsers with full web capability (including Flash).

So Steve can rally the troops, and fanboys like you will get weak at the knees, but the fact is, this is the last great year for the iPhone.

And because of Steve's arrogance and greed, I am kind of glad at this humiliation.

Pride proceeds the fall... yours... just so somewhere, anywhere else and reflect on your faults.:D:apple:

Umm, that's not a problem.

Seriously, have people learned nothing from the iPhone when it comes to the general public and tech specs? Repeat after me boys and girls: Only geeks care about this sort of thing.

Android will take the low and medium end markets because it will appear in handsets that are free on low-cost plans and under £100 for PAYG users. iPhone will continue to dominate the high end because it offers, by FAR, the most complete smartphone solution and stability in the platform.

iPhone has never dominated the market in terms of units shipped and has never been intended to do so. Apple could never keep up with anything like the demand such dominance would require anyway. They're more than happy being the 800 pound gorilla in the high-end high-margin market. Where they do dominate utterly is in an understanding of the consumer market that no other tech company even gets close to matching. They'e shown it with the iPod. They've shown it with OS X. They've shown it with the iPhone. They seem to be showing it again with the iPad. And they'll continue down that path which makes it incredibly difficult for the competition to get ahead of them as Apple keep taking unexpected turns and making it work.

What will they do next? Any speculation at this point is probably wild guessing at best but it does have to be said they have a very nice and shiny new data center in North Carolina just sitting there with a truly scary amount of capacity which should be coming on stream very shortly now. Just to speculate what if they suddenly move iTunes to the cloud. A single account which lets you download, stream and manage your media directly to your device thus making the desktop client optional? Or provide an iDisk equivalent for iPhone OS that fits that methodology (i.e. a transparent storage layer that's searchable from any device and where the apps handle the file management for you)?

THAT'S the trump card Apple have in their hand - their ecosystem and integration with it are second to none on the consumer side and it's something Google (or anyone else at this point) simply can't match, at least not in the short or even medium term. It won't win them the mass market but, and I know I'm repeating myself here but it's worth hammering home' APPLE AREN'T INTERESTED IN THE MASS MARKET. It's a nice bonus if they can pull an iPod again but they're far more interested in producing high-end products that can pull in a healthy product and establishing themselves as THE brand name in the computing space (yes, smartphones are computers, please don't argue this point you'll only look foolish...).

When you're looking at Android and where / who it's really threatening cast your gaze in Microsoft's direction as it's the WM market that Android is currently eating up wholesale. Given Apple has the high end locked up tight and Android is going to be firmly established lower down the market it's hard to see how even several Billion Dollars of advertising budget is going to force a hole for WP7 to gain a foothold right now.

Now can we please please please stop all this stupid, ridiculous and downright dumb fanboy crap? Or is it a crime now to judge products and services on their relative merits instead of who makes / supplies them and their perceived position on the evil scale?

God I love Steve Jobs. I don't think anyone else could ever write more meaningful and powerful 5 word emails.

Not to mention valuable. His fingers have to have massive Lloyds of London insurance policies on them. He easily gets a million plus dollars of free advertising per word typed. It really is magical.

if your like me you would get the 200$ price every year due to the amount you pay on your bill. maybe you could get it too.

also hacking you atv could make it so much better

Steve knows these emails are 100% public.

Steve is the UPOD guy.

I'm holding on tight for WWDC.

AT&T is very substantially increasing the cancellation penalty for "smart phones". That means the split is changing substantially while AT&T keeps the "exclusive" for a short time longer. Key word short.

The only realistic way Verizon is going to have simultaneous voice and data is data/VoIP on a "data only plan". Why Verizon will not go that route eludes me and "I is a rokit scientist."

Rocketman

Can't help but cringe at the language of that email. Seriously?

Anyway, I know Jobs will be mighty embarrassed having to announce this iPhone which has been all over gadget sites. It was bad enough with the PowerMac G5.

Predictions

Along with the new iPhone I predict Apple will announce a newly redesigned Mac Mini. A hardware merger of the Mac Mini and a improved Apple TV.

I also believe that Steve will announce that MobileMe will be a free service with a number of improvements.

+1 i didnt read the whole post because it felt like something i should have gotten from ibooks :p. but i skimmed and agree with u on this one

Did you miss the working in Fine Arts part....no i don't pay enough monthly to get the new upgrade every year...and I know i could...I use Boxee on my iMac right now, but I don't want to have to hack a product to make it actually worth my while.

I didn't see the whole discussion, but he didn't mention tethering did he? You got off lightly ;).

because we americans get it free (if jailbroken)

honestly att has the best service where i live and i have been to most of the us and almost never went under 4 bars of 3g. not to mention its been proved the probs with the iphone are the antenna due to comparing it to other devices on att including the ipad. hopefully the new iphone will have a better antenna like the ipad.

You do realize those aren't photos, right? Definitely 3D renders and most likely not reflective of what Apple will offer. Black for sure, probably white based on the recent actual photos, other colors who knows?

Yes of course, hence my distrust that even the white is guaranteed. The mockups of the coloured ones still look pretty good though :).
