In the Forbes listing dated 9-30-2009, Steve Jobs was ranked 43rd in the top 400 richest Americans with 5.1 billion. Bill Gates was #1 with 50 billion. What is interesting is that the former(?) owner(?) of CompUSA is ranked #1 in the world. What did he do to amass that fortune? He wasn't there a couple of years ago, although he was ranked up near the top.

Funny thing, I actually worked with his niece at the 5th Ave CompUSA store in NYC a couple years ago, she was the store greeter (made up job for her to stay busy). She showed me pictures of his mansions in Mexico and around the world. I saw him in the store a couple times, never spoke with him though. One time his assistant came in and wanted some iPod accessory, I looked in the system and saw that we had 2 left in the store somewhere. I made the mistake of telling her that we might have a couple left. I got chewed out when nobody could locate the products. I had never even heard of the guy, my manager was like "Do you know who you where just talking to?!?! ... Carlos' assistant.... you idiot!" I was like, "Who's Carlos?" Wish I had a video of it. My manager couldn't believe I had never heard of the guy. Probably made much of his money through corruption anyways.

Bill Gates (and all multimillionaire philanthropists) gives his money to charities for ulterior motives. I can't recall all the details, but when I was in law school we went over how charities can be used as a means of funneling money for corporations. Gates would have to pay a lot of money in taxes either way, but when he donates money to charity his taxes dramatically decrease, not to mention all the great publicity he gets for it.

Most importantly, he gets to say where his money goes and what its spent on. It was discovered that a significant amoount of Gates money that had been donated had gone to help anti-humanitarian purposes like sweat shops

His motives are not important. It doesn't matter at all. He is trying to help. Nobody is saying that he is Madre Theresa or a martyr.

So, do you prefer that he doesn't give any money at all to malaria research just because it doesn't come from the most unselfish gesture? I imagine you are so righteous that you can decide if he is sincere or not.

For a start you don't have your meaning of words right. A Matyr is somebody who dies for their faith or belief.

And by your first statement I could say its okay what Bush did. I mean, he was only helping America.

Yet you still took the time to read it, AND comment on it.

Yep, that's right. Just like you apparently read my opinion, disagreed with it, but yet took the time to answer back.

Nice try though. Oh, and thanks for the reply.

What is the point of this article? Am I supposed to care where he is ranked or how much he is worth?

I like Jobs but this deification of him is getting ridiculous. How about we get to issues like when he will release new MBPs. Or will they never be updated again?
The point of all articles at MacRumors is pageviews.

Congratulations, you took the bait. Not only did you read the article, you actually posted a comment. And no doubt, you will come back here to read the comments to see if anyone posted a response. And maybe you'll continue this conversation by responding to my response.

Hook, line, and sinker. Bravo!

:) :p :D

Oh yeah, I did come back looking for a response. But not from you.

You're comment is either heavy with assumptions or without logic. I'm not looking to prevent MacRumors in getting page hits. What do I care? I don't comment on most stories posted here. I look at this thread, just as I look at some of the fanboys' comments on this forum, as pure comedy that is as good or better than late nite shows.

I am however ready to criticize just like when it took a few days for MR to report that Google Voice was given permanent purgatory from the App Store after the story was well out there already.

As I said before, it's nice as well that you went out of your way to comment. Bravo!

Actually, you're the one who doesn't make sense.

You're asking the folks here at MacRumors when the MacBook Pro is going to be updated?

Sorry, we don't know. We'll never know. Apple (with a few exceptions like the iPhone and iPad) does not discuss unreleased products. You might as well consult the Magic 8-Ball or your pet iguana for such answers.

As others have mentioned, the irony of you spending your time commenting on a thread that you find useless is far more entertaining than the mindless fanboy drivel typically found on this website.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face! Carry on!

:)

Personally I do not like Steve Jobs, I do not think he would be a person to be friends with. But he is a visionary businessman and I love the products created under his command at apple, from software to hardware. I wish him best health, I think that is what he needs most. The fortune is deserved, there is no other who could do for Apple what he did.

I wish he would believe more in "openness" and "choice" though.

Apple doesn't seem to be showing Mr. Jobs to much value. They pay him $1 a year in salary. He should be getting a mega-load of stock in Apple that would have propelled him 10s of billions ahead of where he ranks now.

Goodness, what is it like to have that much money? What I make is nothing compared to that.

It sucks that there are persons with that much money then there are people who literally have nothing.

Would there ever be a time when poverty is eliminated?

Dude, Steve gets compensated plenty...

What would be the point? I fail to see the need or the meaning of talking about how a billionaire could have more billions. What's the point of having more other than to give it away?

Those yellow teeth are so menacing. Seriously...wow.

Charitible acts always have ulterior motives, even if its just attention seeking. True charity is something not humanly possible. :(

You're watching way too much anime, dude....

proud of Slim Helu, you guys should see..u think ATT is Expensive and bad
? he charges for iphone 1000 dlls, and no unlimeted data available.

In many countries you get tax cuts if you donate money to charity or use it for charity work. You get discounts for comunity service. People have self gratification in doing something good. You even get taught this at tertiary institutes.

A motive isnt always bad, youve been watching to much Anime.
