I was blown away for a second and initially shocked and saddened. But let's man up and move forward with Tim Cook leading Apple and continue just kicking everyone's ass when it comes to products and innovation.

This.

Eventually we'll have to start looking forward and remember that Steve has a great team behind him.

So sorry to hear the news... Lets hope his health improves. My thanks go to him for the incredible products he's created, his visions really have changed the world. If it wasn't for him, who knows where we'd be now.

The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world; are the ones who do.

It's a startling contrast, and the resignation an inevitability...

But still this remains incredibly sad day :( :(

I hope his health hasn't gone to the point of no return and that there is some improvement for himself and his young family to have more time with each other.

His illness must be getting serious. I wonder if that's also the reason his biography release date has been brought forward?

No, the publisher stated the new date had nothing to do with his health. The book was simply done ahead of time, and with a November release it can enjoy holiday sales.

He may not be getting better, but if it were truly serious he would not be Chairman of the Board.

This shows how much we respect and love Steve. It's pretty heartwarming really.

I hope he is doing this to completely get better, and maybe he will try and play a larger role when he get better....

Hopefully he gets better..

A sad, sad day. He was Apple. He was a pioneer and changed everything, it's very difficult to see how things will go now. He was the centre point at the company, can they continue in the same vein??

I'm not convinced this means his health is failing him. I think he honestly believes it's best for the company as a whole.

Steve is getting older, and he puts absurdly high expectations on himself and those close to him. His tech buddy, Gates, stepped down from MS years and years ago.

55 is not old by a long shot. If Steve is stepping down from a role he loves in a world where his tasks could be accomplished remotely and without travel then you can take that as a bad sign for his health and energy levels.

Gates stepped down to work on other projects like his foundation and public speaking. He didn't do so out of necessity.

It was a great era with Steve, but remember guys, they still have some of the best designers like Jonny Ive and Tim Cook will be a great replacement. While he isn't a Steve Jobs, I hope he does share the same visions for future products with Steve. All the best!

sad day.. my macbookpro started to run a little show since the announcement. i think shes crying.

hope steve's health didnt take a turn for the worse tho. he is apple. he started the company when everyone told him that apple was ****, now look at it.. my heart goes out to him

Hopefully Steve will be on the board, not only that but continue to have a pull in what goes on in the products. I wish him and his family best of luck and i hope apple does the best it cant without him at the helm.

:( I was speechless when i saw this post at the top of mac rumors. I really hope his health hasn't taken a turn for the worse. It was expected with how frail he has looked recently but I was still shocked to see it nonetheless. Best of luck Steve thank you for everything! :apple:
