He actualy wrote them a letter?

I would have expected him to send something like:

It's been a ride. Bye!

I wonder what the deathpoolers are putting the over/under at — six months?

I don't mean to be grim, but the writing appears to be on the wall. We just can't read the fine print with the particulars of how long Jobs intends to spend with his family and addressing whatever few "bucket list" items he might have.

I wish him a blissful future, however long it may last. His insight and unyielding standards resulted some truly wonderful pieces of technology that made using even a seven-year-old computer enjoyable.

He was allegedly suppose to be dead 2 years ago according to a lot of news sites! So I think hes doing quite well so far!

I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm saddened by the news.

Steve Jobs, love or hate the philosophy guided Apple from the absolute brink and brought it one of the most valuable companies in the world.

Well, I was sorry to read the news. I think it's particularly saddening, because we're all so aware what future news will bring. It's going to be painful when that day comes, because Steve Jobs brought Apple up from the clutches of death and literally made many of us love a technology company (which sounds ridiculous). That passion, drive and imagination will be very difficult to replace. I'm just grateful to have had all these years of Apple products. I'm proud to have stuck with the company through the thick and thin. I'm also happy to have MacRumors to feed my addiction!

Can I just say that this is basically about a man who is slowly dying of pancreatic cancer - one of the most aggressive forms of cancer. He is obviously a sick man and it was no suprise, as he stated, that this day would come.

There are certain members I've seen five or six times in this thread that find this thoroughly amusing. One certain member keeps posting inane drivel about the hilarity of it all - why one would feel the need to do this, about a man you don't care about, in a company you don't care about, who has a terminal disease - well, it more or less tells me what I need to know about you.

I like iPhones and I don't mind Apple as a company, but there's something terribly, terribly sad about a man who has all the money and power in the word, being so utterly helpless against such a monstrous disease.

I can see Jobs as the Godfather, retired, tending the roses so to speak, but deciding disputes. The boys bring a 2"-thick iPad with a Bluray player out to his house. He kisses it and goes back to his flowers, wordlessly. The boys crush and bury the iPad and it is never seen again.

One wonders if the presence of Jobs at the head of the Board's table will be intimidating. Will they dare to do something Jobs had been against? Will it be "Would Jobs do this" every time there is a question about something?

No pressure, Cook!

I'd like to say: Thank god! Finally! Now we can get on with things.... at least he had the sense to leave it slowly )still being around) as opposed to dying as CEO whereby everyone freaks and the stock plummets!

Also, what more can he do - seriously? The most valuable company on Earth?

I say the guy chill out enjoy life and give some wealth back to the world (I'm sure he already does) Personally, if we could just make Teaching an exceedingly well paid, competitive job (nationwide), I think that would accomplish the most for our country.

Anyway, moving on....

Yeah because selling overpriced computers makes him qualified to run the United States. Yes...I know you were joking(I hope).

I would say taking a company from the brink of bankruptcy to the most valuable tech company in the world would be good qualification. Also running a company that has more money in the bank than the US government is also a good reference.

Perhaps his cancer could have been treatable if he donated even a dollar to a cancer charity

no that would be too much to ask of him! worth 5bil+ and hasn't donated a cent except to political party leaders.. cough cough..

Nope, you weren't soft at all, you got hurt

BTW, no need for personal attacks, chill out

No need for personal attacks?!, what like the one you originally posted about Tim Cook?

I wish Mr. Cook all the best in what is going to be an ascension to a seat with many expectations. And, of course, well wishes for Steve's health.
