We love you Steve, we will miss you during the keynotes now :(. Glad you're still chairman.

I think Tim Cook will do a brilliant job, after all he's gay isn't he? Then there's nothing to fear.

Sad day. Thanks for all the great products Steve. You have made me into an apple guy for life. Everyone wishes you the best and hopes your health gets better.

So on the Tenth Anniversary of WebKit open source project Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple. I guess he considered that a good day to say job done on the work he started with NeXT. Time for the team to drive on.

Well I say, job well done. Thanks for the Fish.

Lol. Whats not cool is a man worth over 5 billion and hasn't donated a cent, especially to a cause that could have benefited him.. a lot!!!!

Yeah, i think in the end, Gates did a lot more with his foundation and for the world as far as saving lives. Jobs focused more on toys for the "rich nations", rather than more humanitarian work. BUt he also had a lot less money than gates. Would have been nice for him to care as much though.

He has done and will continue to do great things for Apple with his ideas and leadership. But this just might be one step closer to retirement. Everyone here knows we will all reach that point.

He has earned it.

Who are you, Steve's accountant? Got some proof of this or are you just taking an opportunity to kick someone when they are down.

Jobs Decision to Resign Erases $52 Billion From S&P 500 as Apple Tumbles

The retirement announcement is perfect timing - clearly the stock would take a tumble whenever Steve was going to resign - but with the iPhone 5 and new iPods being announced in a few weeks the market will have steadied from this announcement and should rebound with the launch.

Second of three disasters

First disaster of the week: earthquake
Second (forecast) disaster of the week: Hurricane Irene
Third disaster of the week: Steve Jobs quits as CEO of Apple.

You can already have these things, it is called HP, oh, wait, never mind.

I think hopefully with this we can see some changes in the lineup, especially on things that Jobs did not really "get".
1. Maybe better desktops that are not "all-in-ones"
2. Perhaps the options of two button mice, trackpads, etc. I'd love to have some programmable buttons on the top or side of a magic trackpad
3. Cheaper prices, I can forgo the aluminum to get a better processor,
4. Lower prices for memory
5. support of hackintosh maybe
6. better emulation of business apps
7. Fewer glossy screens
8. Blu-ray
9. More updates with new processors, etc instead of just waiting and waiting

Some of these changes will be nice now that jobs' sometimes illogical decision tree may be out of the way. I have a friend who works at apple and they think that some of these will probably happen over time. She told me that people were afraid to disagree with him, but maybe dialog will be more open.

I wish jobs the best from a health perspective. Maybe all the stress can affect cancer recurrence, and certainly being rich may get you a liver, but may not get you a cure. Thanks for a good run Mr. Jobs, but in the end, the world will have no problem moving on, but I hope your family can spend time with you. You did a good job for your investors!

Perhaps his cancer could have been treatable if he donated even a dollar to a cancer charity

no that would be too much to ask of him! worth 5bil+ and hasn't donated a cent except to political party leaders.. cough cough..

How could you possibly know that? Many people donate anonymously.

Just because he doesn't publicly donate, doesn't mean he doesn't.

Plus, you don't know if he is behind that countless charities that I'm sure Apple donates too.

wow

First disaster of the week: earthquake
Second (forecast) disaster of the week: Hurricane Irene
Third disaster of the week: Steve Jobs quits as CEO of Apple.

Sorry, IMO you have your priorities confused.

The 7.0 Earthquake in Peru was pretty serious. Irene may or may not be serious.

Apple's change in command is really minor, considering that Tim Cook has been running the show for much of the last couple of years.

Please stay healthy, Steve.

It will be the loss of the world if you go away.

Please stay as a healthy man for your family.

Thanks for the shake up of the technology industry, so that everyone in the world, no matter is s/he an Apple fanboy or Apple hater, or Joe the consumer, can have modern touch screen only smartphone running modern mobile OSes like iOS and Android. Without you and your amazing team we would have stuck in Dumbphones made by Nokia and Nokia-alikes.

Please stay healthy, Steve. :(

Thanks, Steve

Thank you Steve for dragging the IT industry kicking and screaming where it didn't want to go.

It's scary to think how far backwards we'd be without your efforts. Remove the Mac, the iMac, the iPod, iTunes, iPhone and iPad from history... God only knows, we'd probably have cell phones with DOS on them!!

Tim, well done, mate. Very optimistic about you as CEO.

Please.. he loves to be in front of a camera.. every few months he has to be on stage in front of thousands of cameras parading around. Like he'd donate anonymously hahaha

Well done Steve!

Yes he did a great job and did it very well and the resignation was just perfect timing. This is reality and I'm surprised he made this far considering he's health and the company is in jeopardy. That was amazing how Apple handled every situation in control. The is been planned all along and this is the right time for Steve to exit. The stock plummeted that is a no surprise it is going to happen, the question is how the Apple going to bring it back up. Like I said this is been planned all along it means in a month or two great new things coming from Apple. This is going to happen, new really good stuff makes people happy, makes the stock goes up. This is the time for Tim to shine as the new CEO. What made Steve great is because of a great products he introduced to us over the years. What's going to make Tim shine also a great product as well, because this is Apple's core business. Something new and great things are coming in a few months that makes Apple back in track in no time. Great job SJ, you made your part and you did it very well!

I just found out ... thought it was a joke for a second, then my heart sank. I hope he's doing alright.

Thank you Mr. Jobs, you've done a lot of great things and hopefully continue to do so.

This one too is for you Steve!

This one's for you Steve.

Sad day indeed, I hope his health takes a turn for the better.

Glad he is staying on, but I do believe that Tim Cook is a great successor to Steve.
