Of course, Steve would likely be pissed about all this sulking in the thread and tell us to go start the next great revolution. It's because of that kind of relentless, innovative spirit he was at the dinner below.

Let's see, who was missing? Hmmmmmm.........

OH YEAH! Now I remember.

The World's Richest men in the world list
1. Carlos Slim
2. Bill Gates
3. Warren Buffet
4.....
Etc
Hmm guess who's missing from that list?.?

See how stupid that was?? See how stupid your post is??
Your post has absolutely nothing to do with Steve Jobs stepping down.
Your post is as tasteless and stupid as those that wish harm on Steve.

I don't get it. Well wishes to Steve becomes wishing ill will on him and Microsoft. What's wrong with you people?????
Pathetic simply disgusting and pathetic.

I fear that this announcement and the recent advancement in the release date of his official biography spells the worst.

I hope not and I wish him the best!

From an investment standpoint, I'm actually glad to see Apple put this behind them (although it's sad to see The Steve bow out, obviously). It's been hanging over the company for years, now they can truly just be judged on their performance, which I don't expect to drop off a cliff anytime soon.

A Thread to the most Iconic CEO Steve Jobs, who has retired tonight!

I am only 28 but I remember Apple in elementary school and the uprising of Apple from the iPod and it has not stopped since. This has been due to Steve and his vision. So I take a moment tonight to celebrate his success with the company he co founded and pray that god give him good health and many more happy years with his family and friends!

No, he wasn't Apple. Steve was made to leave apple after the original Macintosh products flopped and he got into conflicts with other leaders at the time. After gaining some more experience from NeXT, then Steve brought Apple back to prosperity. I think that Apple leadership have learned their lesson and will continue to manage with Steve's style. Steve Jobs hasn't designed any of their products, and although you could make the argument that he's shut several products down, there is no way that Apple will make a product that he doesn't approve of as long as he is Chairman, which will likely be for years to come. Even though the man is (sort of) gone, the ideas, design philosophy, and management style that made Apple successful will be here to stay.

No the other guy is right. Apple worked because it's based around the cult of personality that is Steve Jobs.

He chose what markets to pursue. Apple's design philosophy was spun from his penchant toward minimalism and the guy did make design decisions (IE that stoplight at the top of the Mac window was his idea). And Apple's management style = everyone works their ass off to please Steve Jobs and gets chewed out if they don't.

I don't think Tim Cook will screw up (I didn't sell my AAPL stock so I'm betting he won't) but Apple won't be the same.

Shocked to say the least, a modern day legend!

Hope his health is alright, but i watched a video the other day of him answering questions to the local council. He looked awful :(

Steve Jobs - A Musical Mind

This is from an article in the New York Times:

His design decisions, Mr. Jobs explained, were shaped by his understanding of both technology and popular culture. His own study and intuition, not focus groups, were his guide. When a reporter asked what market research went into the iPad, Mr. Jobs replied: “None. It’s not the consumers’ job to know what they want.”

My worry: great leaders often choose middling men as their successors. People who follow them have been a sort of assistant for too long to make a great impact.

Steve Jobs is a generalist, and a highly creative individual.

This is what the New York Times writes about Tim Cook:

Mr. Jobs’s hand-picked successor, Timothy Cook, who has been the company’s chief operating officer, has guided the company impressively during Mr. Jobs’s medical leaves. But his greatest skill is as an operations expert rather than a product-design team leader — Mr. Jobs’s particular talent.

"Operational Expert" - high up assistant who guides processes but who is not a leader.

"It's not the consumer's job to know what they want", so Jobs, it's the leader's feel and knowledge.

That's so rare among all those greatly suited candidates with an impressive curriculum.

I particularly like the comment about Steve Jobs being like a high end classical conductor to an orchestra.

Let's hope Apple will find another musical mind.

Nothing has really changed. They just made what has been going on for years and put it down in ink.

Tim has been running Apple for awhile now so Steve could do what Steve does best, and that is spend more time being Steve.

A CEOs job has all sorts of daily BS that is a waste of Steve's skills.

Now he can be Chairman and free up time to be the company's full time visionary.

I work at a two letter valley behemoth. CEOs come and go but Visionary's are rare.

Apple is keeping theirs on the payroll.

I am excited to see Steve freed up to concentrate on whatever he feels matters most for himself and for Apple.

Steve: As you were, just keep being the Steve we all love
Tim: Congrats, you earned it :)

Had to happen eventually. At least Apple is in a very strong position, financially and otherwise, to weather the inevitable panic and find a new creative spirit.

Someone upthread called Steve's comeback a Cinderella story, and I don't think I can improve on that.

Bon chance, mon ami.

Not innovative at all.

Ever heard of Darwin BSD? Probably not. It's what Apple stole and based your OS off of. You want to know a close relative of BSD in general? Linux.

Take a wild guess how many app stores Linux has.

3+, last time I checked. The were doing that stuff years ago. There is NOTHING innovative about Apple. It's just that nobody catches them because they steal their ideas from obscure stuff.

it's not my OS. I don't own it. It's Apples.

Sounds like you're bitter b/c you didn't buy stocks when you had the chance.

I think the only reason people worry is because what happened to Apple last time Steve left, however this time is a lot different. Apple is a lot more stable and the person taking over has been with the company for a long time. Things will change. Some for the better and some for the worse, but overall the company is strong and will continue to grow.

I wish Steve the best in his retirement and hopefully he can start getting the rest he needs.

Not Unexpected.....

I suspect Steve is "rebalancing" his life.

Sometimes it takes adversity to make us realize what is really important in life and refocus ourselves.
