I'm sad to see Steve retire. I'm also happy to see Steve retire. I hope he can take time to enjoy more of his life. Thank you Steve, for your role in producing lots of cool toys for me to enjoy. There have been a few decisions I disagreed with, like not building a decent upgradeable consumer desktop (which I continue to pine for), but I agreed whole heartedly with many of your decisions that others berated relentlessly, like flash and blu-ray.

I see no logical reason to assume SJ's retirement from CEO would have any negative affect on Apple in the real world. The company is in a position of extreme strength in the market. It appears that SJ has basically been off on leave for months and Apple has continued to grow stronger. Those of us who use their products understand why that is so and why it will continue for the foreseeable future. I suspect SJ has watched as well and is confident Apple is ready to move on. And no, it's not lost on me that he will still be Chairman of the Board, which should give him the opportunity to offer much of the critical guidance that everyone seems to think Apple will be lost without.

But the stock market is driven by rumors and fear - not solid products or reality, and Apple stock is going to take a real beating. Then it will return and some people are going to make a lot of money off of that fear.

It's a sad day, and the end of an era.

But it looks like he's gone on his own terms ... A very 'Steve Jobs' thing to do.

I wish him all the best for his and his family's future.

Thanks for everything Steve, Thank you, Apple. thanks for the Macbook Pro, that's my most worthy $2000, ever.

Dieing isnt something to be taken lightly. And whether or not he does die goes beyond the point. Hes stepping down, and THAT in and of itself is to be sad about. The fact that it is related to health issues makes it even more of a dark time and to come onto a forum that has Mac in the name and post hypocritical BS and philisophical nonsense is just plain dumb. No matter how you look at it. When you sign up for this forum, youd assume you are an apple enthusiast and that if there comes a time when a VERY large asset to said company steps aside that youd be bothered in some way. Life is what we make it...live to the fullest....we all die. blah blah blah. Save it. Because the man who brought all the products that people complain about (yet cant seem to get enough of and cant seem to stop talking about) has left the building so to speak, and THAT is something worth putting your troll hat away for.

Please, and thank you.

If youve ever seen the PC Mac spoof...

Jobs- Im cool and you're a pathetic old man!
Gates- Hey!!
Jobs- iPhone bitch!

We'll miss you...you cool guy...you.

The World's Richest men in the world list
1. Carlos Slim
2. Bill Gates
3. Warren Buffet
4.....
Etc
Hmm guess who's missing from that list?.?

See how stupid that was?? See how stupid your post is??
Your post has absolutely nothing to do with Steve Jobs stepping down.
Your post is as tasteless and stupid as those that wish harm on Steve.

I don't get it. Well wishes to Steve becomes wishing ill will on him and Microsoft. What's wrong with you people?????
Pathetic simply disgusting and pathetic.

First off, did you even read my post, or did you just go to the end and see the Gates & Balmer image (which, by the way, was taken from a post in the thread from someone celebrating Steve having to step down)?

Second, don't come into the middle of a conversation and expect to know what the hell is going on. As has been pointed out, we have a long standing debate with our favorite Windows apologist/Apple hater. I posted one of his gems, but you apparently skipped over it.

Finally, since when has someone's personal wealth been a measurement of their worth as a human being? If so, why stop there? Let's go back and add the other monopolists throughout history. How about the robber barons?

Steve Jobs …. like an adult version of Santa Claus making and bringing us new toys every year will be sorely missed! Nobody will replace you Steve like the way you do things but I still have high hopes that your elves will continue working hard at your workshop. Thanks!

Perhaps you should wake up and smell the roses.

Ever heard of Rogers Communications from Canada? Ted Rogers' death made the company LESS evil when he died. Not by much though.

Well you'd be the only one, since everyone else's Touchpad is running WebOS... :p

More people should use Android on an device that has no development future.

This comes a bit sooner than expected, but the day has come at last. Many people will now discover that they were not fans of Apple and its products, but that they were fans of Steve Jobs and his products. Steve Jobs has been synonymous with the rise and success of Apple and for most people he is Apple.

From here on, it can only go downwards. Nobody at Apple has his vision, drive and taste or the ability to sell this vision.

The staff at Apple can only try to institutionalize what Steve has created, but they won't be able to build on it themselves.

We will still see nice designs in the future, but they won't have much soul.

The beautiful, fascinating and exciting part of the journey is over. Just like IBM and Microsoft, Apple will fall back to insignificance now. Apple has become too big and too rich to simply disappear, but it soon will also be too institutionalized to create, innovate and move ahead.

I am an Apple enthusiast. I own several of their quality products. However, worshipping a man is a mistake people have made too often in the past.

I think Steve probably felt that Tim deserved the title of CEO for all he had been doing for Apple and so he stepped aside and made room for his protege. I pray Steve's is in good health, and if not that he returns to good health. From Apple to NeXT to PIXAR and back to Apple again, he has certainly changed several industries. He is certainly "going out on top". I hope his involvement as chairman means we see him at a few product introductions and keynotes in the future. I will always remember Jobs and Gates like I remember Johnson and Bird - two greats whose rivalry defined them and helped shape them and eventually lead to a mutual respect for one another. Just like Johnson and Bird changed the game, so did Jobs and Gates change the face of the tech industry. Jobs' career was an amazing one and since Woz he has always had a talent for surrounding himself with amazing talent. That included Lasseter at PIXAR and included Cook, Forstall, and Ivy today. Steve is still along for the ride, but he has officially handed the reins to Tim Cook who has certainly earned the right to steer the company.

Nice job Steve, and our prayers are with you.

Well, Tim will need to do something to establish that "I am not Steve Jobs" - BD and USB 3.0 would be a start.

ps: The Asian shark fin slaughter operations should die too....

Tim Cook is a lot like Steve than you think.

And Tim Cook is confident and mature enough to know not to pull that kinda ****.

I would quote that for my sig if it wouldn't ruin every thread I post in.
