"One more thing" - that's my hope

A great innovator and inspiration is saying goodbye. I will forever be thankful for his contributions to technology and the world in general. I hope to see one last big "one more thing" from him, at the iPhone event, whenever this comes. I can't imagine he would sign off without one last surprise, his last big Apple-formed mark on history.

Thanks Steve - you have been an yardstick of quality and you have created an environment in which excellence is expected - and it has always been delivered.

A sad day, the end of an era. I have got the highest respect for Steve and for everything that he has done over the years, but at the same time you must also respect his decision to step down.

Unfortunately nothing lasts forever...

Tim will be a good replacement. Steve, I wish you nothing but the best. There aren't words to describe how you changed my life for the better. Thank you.

That's ridiculous. How did he possibly change your life? How can you people idolise one guy so much, not lest a chief executive at a company...

First he lost the smartphone market to Android and now he just goes without taking the responisibility for that.

Remembers me of his first resignment after he lost the PC market to Microsoft.

A true hero.

Thank you Steve. Excellent work with Apple. You really changed the world and I'm happy to say: to better.

I love you Steve! :apple: (yell from the audience)

Because it's what he represents, what he has done and what he continues to do.

He certainly changed my life as well. That ATD video sums it up pretty well when Steve says, 'So I found all of these great people still there, and to put it bluntly, I asked them "why are you all still here" and they just looked at me and replied "because if you cut me, I bleed six colours" '

I think that sums me and many others up pretty well.

I don't idolise him or even like the guy ( on a personal level), however he(, actually it's unfair to the engineers and the designers to say just "he") anyway apple as a company has changed my life.

I have an iPhone, macbook air, apple tv and iPod. These products have all changed my life to a certain degree for the better.

??

Didn't see that one coming.

Really? He already left once due to poor health.

----------

There are a lot of people who are saying that this is unexpected which I find a little strange.

I dont like it as much as the next person but the guy is sick and has been for a while now.

I hope he beats it but I wasnt surprised more saddened.

I'm astonished at the amount of comments here regarding the stock price.

People, playing with stock is a gamble, more than that it's a privilege only few people have. It's kind of admitting that you have too much money, and not enough brain to use it well.

Playing with shares can make you rich, and if you have a plan to do something with all that money, then it serves a purpose. Otherwise you'r just lining the pockets of wall street and contributing to the whole mess we're in.

I believe Steve in him saying he would swap all his money for a healthy body. In my view that is the ultimate test of character.

Steve, I know you do not read this, but you are A+ in my book. May you gain what you wish for the most, and may it also leave you with enough capital to continue changing the world. May the universe bless you.

P.S. FWIW, I have full confidence in the management team Steve has spent years to build.

@SteveJ "Live long and prosper!" I hope that his health is going to allow him to live a long time with his family and friends and enjoy life :). Apple will be fine.

I'm sad he had to leave Apple
It won't be the same without him!
Best of luck Steve!

all in all, not completely unexpected.

my best wishes to you and your family, mr. jobs! may your years in retirement be as many and as golden as your years at apple!

Goody. Maybe Apple might start using better hardware and stop over pricing everything they sell now.

Oh, who am I kidding...

Just, thank you Steve, for everything!!! You made a big difference for my life, and I think for many others! You're my hero! I wish you to stay healthy as long as highest powers give you!!! And please influence Apple as long as possible (that's the wish for all of us) ! ))

Good luck Steve

It is at times like this that we must all take some time and reflect on the tremendous achievements that Steve has pushed through over the last 35 years using sheer will and intellect. All of us reading here have been influenced in some way by Steve, so it is time for us to pass on our sincere thanks.

Share price is irrelevant, Steve has increased the value of this more than anyone could ever have expected. Apple will continue to grow and prosper. Remember Steve will still be on the board I suspect for the rest of his life which we all wish is a long time.

Thank you Steve for all the ways that you have changed the world and our lives in such a positive way.

Good luck and Good Health!!

Curious that there is an iOS software head, but no Mac OS X software head!! And, isn't Ron Johnson quitting and going to be JC Penney's CEO or something like that.

I'm surprised Craig Federighi hasn't been promoted to Senior VP of OS X Software with his profile up there.

Having worked with Craig and Scott Forstall I can say hands down that Craig should be and I expect him to be the one giving the Keynotes for Apple in many of the portions with Tim's keynotes being the conductor and not the Ring master approach that Steve made so famous and no one has come close to equaling.

I do see Craig and Scott handling a lot of the meat in the keynotes for now but lets give Tim a shot to see how well he handles the presentation aspect that Steve made so famous.

A shame and a loss I think as having an autonomous leader in a company hugely affects the way a company is run.

Also, a concern for Steve too. Maintaining that focus, drive and passion keeps the body and mind going, so stepping down may take this away.

A great example is football managers - Booby Robson & Brian Clough both managed into their lates 60s and once they retired they seemed become old men. that;s why Alex Ferguson is so scared to retire - staying in the job keeps your body and mind going
