Just try and imagine what you'd be sitting in front of if it wasn't for this one man's career.

Best wishes to you Steve.

Good luck to Tim Cook too ...such a heavy promotion.

Steve finally put the nail in the coffin of WinTel.

First Apple passed MSFT in market cap and the dismantling of HP was the final victory.

Time to go out on top.

I wish you the best Apple.
I hope that Steve will overlook all product off Apple, just in case they're gonna do somthing stupid.

And Steve J. I also wish you the best, 'cause you're the best… :)

The End of an Era and Mission Accomplished

As someone who has been an Apple user since the Apple ][ (Getting old here :) ), I have always dreaded this day. Today is a sad day assuming Steve is leaving for health deterioration. However, I have faith and trust in his vision and judgement and truly believe he is doing this for the benefit of Apple as a company and community.

1. Steve is leaving at a time when Apple is at an all time high. He has accomplished the mission and in typical Steve style only handing over his "product" when it is perfect. While Tim Cook has a tough job ahead of him, Steve has ensured he is handing over a very well oiled and efficient machine to his successor. How many CEO's or leaders have done this? I know, not many.

2. I also have faith and trust that the current team and management structure is well designed and organized to maintain the current culture, vision and values of Apple. Steve has instigated this over the years and I believe we will see Apple continue to execute and innovate based on this simple but difficult to achieve vision for years to come. The largest challenge in my view will be for Tim Cook and co to actually plan for succession as well as Steve has.

3. The fact that Steve can remain in the shadows at his pace is actually the biggest insurance policy for all interested parties in Apple, since this transition will have Steve to guide when needed for the short term getting less and less involved as time goes by. This is his way of saying "I am here if you need me".

Finally, I think the Steve legacy will end up being larger than Apple, we will here of countless success stories in the future of people who have worked closely with Steve setting up companies and services with the same passion and commitment to quality and ease of use in other lines of business. The Steve effect will be replicated in many other industries and businesses. Personally, I eagerly await the day a "Steve effect" hits the medical and auto industries. As a person, I wish Steve the best of health and prosperity and hope he gets to enjoy the rest of his life in peace and with his family.

As long as Jonny Ive is onboard you can still expect Apple to produce slick hardware.

The big question is can the rest of the team get behind each other to produce singular good ideas or will it devolve into the usual "too many hands ..." scenario that afflicts other companies?

Steve Jobs has an amazing ability to foresee or even invent the future. I've been amazed how every Apple product I've purchased over the years has become an invaluable asset to my life. I think Apple will go on, but it will never be like this again. An era has ended.

Cancer sucks.

My best wishes to Mr. Jobs and his family.

Steve Jobbs will still hang around inside Apple, just not as the CEO. He doesn't need to be the CEO in order to get things done at all :D

It's perfect if somebody else is CEO. This way, Steve Jobbs can do more important things, like Product development instead of waisting time with all the tasks a CEO has to do.

New Apple product "IQuit"

I see a lot of posts that say they are sorry.

These people have not seen the atrocity Steve jobs has done to us professional videographers.

1. 14 months to fix a simple problem of closing a gap in the timeline.
2. Over two years since FCP 7 release and then FCPX, what a joke! NOT a professional product.
3. No Multicam in FCPX, oh yes, they said it will be added, that was months ago. (I guess we have 12 more months to wait?)
4. No blue ray authoring application.
5. The ending of the popular professional suite of applications.

I used to say, in the early years, "Run, don't walk from apple". (I was a PC user). Then in about 2003 I walked into a MAC store and bought a Power mac and the entire professional editing suite. I was VERY happy with the hardware and software, 1 million times better than the PC.
Over the past few years , since the demise of HDDVD, Steve has abandoned us.

I am relieved that he has stepped down. Now maybe someone with 1/2 a brain (that all that is needed to do a better "Job" than "he" has been doing) will now support us professionals and give us what we paid for.

I'm not a big fan of Apple, but I do wish Steve Jobs, his family and his health the very best! And I do thank him for all his hard dedicated work.

Thank you, Steve, for all your hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance in developing the products that you knew people would latch onto and love. You converted me from a PC man, revolutionized my phone, and forever altered the way I consume media content. I'll never go back, either.

Stay hungry, stay foolish.

He's awesome.

However, not diminish His Awesomeness in any way, it was Scully who did the Newton. I remember those Newton Stores they had; talk about cool.

The iPad IMHO, is just a big Newton.

Let's hope we get a lot of this.

Anyway, long life to Senior Awesome. :)

To all of those people who say that this is out of the blue or wonder what will happen to the stock prices... sheesh guys enough OK.

I would just like to say well done to Steve for bringing the company to where it is now, especially taking into account how ill he has been over the last 7 years. He had a vision and ran with it pushing through barriers and boundaries in technology that we have all benefited from. I am sure the company is in safe hands but that is secondary right now.

So thank you Steve Jobs for all you have done and I truly hope that your health does not stop you now enjoying what time you have left with your family and friends, take the break you deserve.

I am sure when I speak for all we wish you well and know that whatever comes you have your family around you.

I also hope you know that we all consider ourselves part of a your bigger Apple family.

Jim

Just thank you.

Thank you for the wonderful products, the magic and the story

And thank you for being an inspiration - a bright star amongst men

Now please, look after yourself and your family

All my respect I send to you Mr Jobs

I hope his health is not failing him. :(

Ummmm, that's like looking at someone who has just been run over by a lorry and asking if they are ok.

Of course his health is failing him.
He does not have long to live. That's not healthy!

Obviously we all thinking about Apple, but I think just as many of us wish Steve well and pray for him and his health. Why do health issues always come to the best people in life?

I would like to see Ives give the Keynote. Cook can lead, but Ives is more articulate.

2 things.

1. The mans name is Ive. And not Ives. So many people get that wrong.
2. Ive will probably not be on the keynote. He wants to design technology. That's his passion. Not get on stage and sell it like some salesman. That's Shiller's Job (worldwide marketing) plus who else he needs to get the product sold.
