I hope not. Would be a massive slap in his face.

Its not really needed despite what the competitors say.

Slap in the face how? And not needed is a far fetch from the truth. Maybe in a few years but today it is needed. More so on the iPad. anything else they could at least give the user the option, and not tell you what is best. And when I say they i mean steve. Full java support would also help...but let me guess, because apple (steve) says its not the future it must be true. You cant even view sites that have a running twitter feed if you want to see the updates.

Thank You!

"Steve Jobs slapped a rainbow on the very archetype of human fallenness and failure—the bitten fruit / :apple: —and made it a sign of promise and progress."

Thank you for being a part of our lives. I / we all hope you will continue to do so for many more years to come.

Best wishes, Steve.

Apple board member Art Levinson paid tribute to Mr Jobs' contribution to the company: "Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company

The above statement is what we should be talking about, John Ives is a great designer, and all the other talent at apple is what makes the company do so well but steves vision and attention to detail played a huge part on what we see today, and the clone companies that are trying to get on the band wagen.

flip side

They even had to invent Boot Camp, because Macs are superior hardware :)

Or, did they have to support dual-booting because Apple OSX was inferior software - people wanted Windows

And, by the way, "Boot Camp" was hardly an invention - multi-booting has been around since forever. Apple made the process a little more fool-proof, that's all.

I'll agree with this, but you would be remiss if you did not also recognize that Steve Jobs was the visionary behind Apple's recent success. His job was to see the company and its path from the 50,000 foot level, and he was/is very good at that.
True. there most be thousands of equally or even better trained engineers at other tech companies with bounded hands and lead by idiots with their false corp thinking.

Dear Steve Jobs,

You are simply the most amazing CEO ever to have walked the face of this world. Your contributions to humanity, in the form of elegant, simple, and innovative devices created new markets and challenged the way people thought about technology.

You inspired all of us every time you stepped up on a stage and introduced a new product. I, personally, studied all your presentations in order to become a better speaker. I know others looked up to you, and not only the mac fans, but even the PC users had respect for you.

It must have been so hard for you to send in that resignation letter, but I'm glad you hand picked your successor.

I wish you the very best of luck, and I hope you spend some quality time with your family and friends.

Sincerely,
A PC user that you convinced to switch over. :apple:

Theories as to why Steve Jobs resigned at THIS time

Can we make one consolidated Steve Jobs theory thread so we don't see the forum inundated over the next few days?

The most likely scenario is that his health has truly prevented him from running day to day operations and he felt it appropriate to step down at this time. But if you want a juicier theory here's my take...

...is it possible that Jobs resigned NOW b/c he disagreed with some of the items being included in the next major product launch (ie: the iPhone 5)? Is it possible that the Apple higher-ups wanted the device to have LTE so that it wouldn't fall a year behind their competition but Jobs didn't think the technology was ready for prime time yet?

We know Apple has been, at the least, TESTING LTE iPhones and it's possible the battery wasn't up to Jobs' standard or the stability of the network wasn't where it needs to be. It's plausible to think that the company would want to get an LTE device to market and Jobs was reluctant to put his name behind it.

Anyway, that's my "out there" theory...let's see what you've got.

"How is it a "slap in the face"?" do you seriously need that answered?

I'm glad you are able to know what I need and don't need.

Thanks.

Apple higher ups? You dont get any higher than CEO lol.

Only down slightly.

Apple higher ups? You dont get any higher that CEO lol.

Just b/c he's the CEO doesn't mean he's the "be all, end all" for decisions. There's a board of directors a COO (who's now CEO) and many Senior VP's. If there is a lot of push back on the final decision, it could have caused him to step down.

He just another person cause he didn't change life itself, Apple products are just luxury products....
I own a Macbook Pro and some other accessories. And if this one breaks, I'll buy another.

If Steve was only 'just a man who didn't change anything', why did you buy Apple, and why will you buy Apple again? It is because Apple products stand for quality of design, usabilty as well as pushing forward the boundaries of technology.

I'm guessing that you have not taken enough time to find out how Steve Jobs impacted on the world around us.

It is not too late to do so now. Many articles have been published since the announcement was made. Try and find one that doesn't say how important he has been.

That's it right there.
I don't believe the LTE thing because after antennagate, an other misstep like lousy battery life would horribly hurt Apple's reputation.
Not their bank balance, really.
But it would be the end of the image of Apple as people now know it.

I agree that his healthy is most likely the reason (that's why I said it in my OP). But the timing (one month before the i5 launch) is what seems strange to me and why I threw that idea out there.

Board of Directors?

Then again, he was on the Board of Directors.

Just b/c he's the CEO doesn't mean he's the "be all, end all" for decisions. There's a board of directors a COO (who's now CEO) and many Senior VP's. If there is a lot of push back on the final decision, it could have caused him to step down.

My point was there was no one 'higher' than him. I know the board of directors will have a say, but with Jobs its not much of one.

Even if Steve jobs were to cease all connection to Apple and for some reason none of the many talented people at Apple came up with the next big thing Tim Cook could still run the company on autopilot and profitably coast on revisions to current products for at least five to ten years.

I don't know about that. If Apple starts coasting, another creative company will take their place. Which is the way the world works.

Steve Jobs is a genuine visionary. This is a major moment of transition.

Those of you acting like this is the end of days, are the reason Apple shares are currently falling. Your devotion is actually hurting Apple right now.

Be happy that Steve chose to leave of his own free will with his dignity, and wasnt forced out for health reasons.

Or, did they have to support dual-booting because Apple OSX was inferior software - people wanted Windows .

IMO, I don't think either software is 'inferior', just different. I like OS X for lots of reasons but Apple [wisely] recognized there's lots of software in the world that is only Windows compatible.

And, by the way, "Boot Camp" was hardly an invention - multi-booting has been around since forever. Apple made the process a little more fool-proof, that's all.

I agree, the Boot Camp process is certainly much easier, especially for the non-techie consumers.

Steve is most likely the most significant CEO in corporate history. His broad strategic "market creating" vision coupled with an intense attention to detail is unique in corporate leadership. Our entire family looks forward to seeing his contributions continue for many more years. He has truly made a great "dent in the universe".

Like many, I expected a much larger drop in Apple share prices - didn't happen. Rather odd how Apple shares can get caught up in a market drop based on some obscure happening in Greek bonds but Steve's resignation barely impacts the share price. Go figure.
