Jobs has exploited a loophole that allows people in the public interest to drive without number plates. Apparently his plates were stolen quite often as "mementos" and he got some sort of approval to not have them.

Google is quite adamant that NOBODY in Cali gets this. And what are his plates anyway? I doubt that he has APPLE1 or something like that. No point having a boffo plate if you can't use it.

Well thanks for dropping the link. Not. Here it is from teh elgooG.

So he just pays the fine or shows the cops the plates in his truck or whatever. Nice.

Here (UK) I'm not a legal expert, but I'm pretty sure that repeated driving without plates (front or back) would build up on your record, and lead to a court appearance or suspension of driving licence.

(btw fines are between £60 and £1000 for improper plates e.g. fancy font, mud covered, too small etc)

California is not in the UK and this sounds like an urban legend.

you can actually get pretty far without a license plate in some states contrary to popular belief.

Think about it. How often do you have a cop right behind you or two cars behind you?

I think I can probably get a good few weeks in before getting pulled over for no license plate. Obviously, if you do more in the city driving or highway driving, the time will be diminished.

Plus i doubt Steve goes many places in that car so its not like he is asking for a ticket...

Guess it depends on how many traffic CCTV cameras there are around you.

Here in the UK (which is not [yet] a US state) there's cameras every bloody where which read your plates and feed back to central computers. . It's how the London congestion charge works - every car entering London has its plates auto-read by cameras.

Go into London or any other major city in a car without plates, alarms go off, and the police will be onto you pretty sharpish.

And for non-car owners, other cameras do face recognition too (at train terminals and bus / tube stations / random street corners.).

The police like to boast about being able to automatically track individuals right across London.

Nope, it ain't pretty.

No, he just pays the fines, im sure california isnt complaining. They need all the money they can get right now.

California has regulations that allow high-profile individuals to not display a license plate.

Instead if you look closely you will see a barcode.

A new car without any plates is common in California. We don't use temp tags, so new cars often have no tags at all until they receive their official tags in the mail. But a lot of people don't even bother to put them on after they receive them. Some people have gone for years without ever installing their plates.

Soon enough in the US too. More and more states aren't allowing people to smile on their driver's licenses because it throws off the facial recognition software.

WWDC 09: Schiller's One More Thing: Steve Jobs

Amazing news. Lets hope we see him at WWDC.
Thank you

Steve Jobs would probably make a cameo at the end of Schiller's speech, or could be Schiller's "one more thing" - I have indicated or should I say predicted on my blog, Let's hope for the Best. Apple Rocks !

No shiny products at WWDC.

Matte. :p

Well...shiny in the sense that it's appropriate for the product but matte like the back of one little special device. I mean who would honestly want a fuzzy, matte iPhone screen? So more like half shiny half matte toy

Excellent news! I can see it now: "Oh, and just one more thing, but we'll let Steve tell you all about it..."

God, I hope so ... Hey Steve ... what's that little notebook you're holding behind your back? Is that an Apple Netbook?
