you kiwis speak in riddles. huh? ive been using Duracell rechargables lately, but my last set lasted a week (never turn off mouse) - my first energizer pair lasted 2 months!)

Cheer Boi, its cuz of our superior school system. You just turn up to class and they give you As. Its like at home, except its not As, its food.

wow didnt know u could get rechargables of them - damn you :p

Rechargeable batteries don't hold as much charge as the chemical based ones in general.

well yeh you would assume that the capacities are less, and degredation higher due to the chemical changes that keep happening over the batteries life. wish they would hurry up and figure that one out!

Not to be more off topic but why doesn't Apple just have a mini USB connection in their KB and new Trackpad so you just plug it in to your computer to charge, no need to remove batteries. Logitech has made something similar for a mouse already.

Also the new iMac one thing I find annoying, unless you have a wired KB you need to reach around the back to plug in any USB divice, why not have one port on each side of the main part of the case, easy to plug in the USB thumb drives, or doesn't Steven believe in those either?

You must be blind! I've got 4 HD TV's in the house, from 23", up to 61" and can EASILY spot the difference between the picture quality of an upscaled DVD vs a good Blu ray movie on any of those TV's. I'm shaking my head in disbelief that anyone who has vision good enough to post a message online actually made the comments that you just posted. Unbelievable.

Not to mention us folks who've ruined our eyes from sitting two feet from a computer monitor 18 hours a day and 2-4 feet are the only distance our eyes will focus.

I'll tell ya though... sitting 4 feet away from a 65" with a Blu-ray in the drive is BETTER than any theater in existence.

But yeah, people who say they can't see the difference are either liars, or blind, or both.

Just go to any retailer and watch the wall of TVs pick out one in Full HD and another low res TV showing the same movie in BluRay, the difference is immediately apparent!

I've never owned a 360 but I've heard their network is more reliable. I have good and bad days when playing MW2. Nothing sucks more than when I'm winning a game and I get a 'server timed out' error. Or "host migration failed". Grrr! the game is so immersive/addictive, it's the only game I play online. I own COD4 and both Resistance games and both Motorstorm games. MW2 is head a shoulders better than those games, IMO. MW2 sales have been phenomenal. oh, and I'm retirement age! I started gaming nearly 3 years ago. It took me about 3 days to get used to the PS3 controls, but it's all good now. :)

I bought both consoles at launch, and it's clear to me that Microsoft designed the XBox 360 experience around X-Box Live while for Sony online play was a reactionary afterthought.

I hate that you have to pay an annual fee for Live, but the experience really is superior to what the PS3 offers. The PS3 has come miles in catching up but Live is the real deal.

You do get occasional server errors/timeouts but it's relatively rare.

Since I have both consoles, when buying a game available on both consoles I consider two factors: (a) X-Box live and (b) a lot of PS3 games are only 720p. That translates to buying the 360 version most of the time.

Apple's all about aesthetics not functionality. A black usb cable would look ugly. Case in point: hockey puck mouse. For something to be any less ergonomic it would have to have impaling spikes.

Even the current magic mouse is not that easy to use IMO, I'll keep my Logitech MX1000 thank you.

Also explains the lack of easily accessible USB ports on the iMac.

But doesn't explain the no BluRay policy of Steven Jobs. If the base iMac they just released had a BD player/DVD burner I would order on today. Also why no DTV built-in, or is that also competition for iTunes/Apple TV?

blu-ray is more powerful, hence it is the future.

Blu-ray is not just the foreseeable future; it is the NOW.

The fact that you can't put a FOUR YEAR-OLD Blu-ray disc in a Mac without it sitting there doing nothing is unforgivable and idiotic business "sense".

I don't see why blu ray (or DVD movies for that matter) and internet streaming services have to be mutually exclusive. Both serve different audiences. And there are plenty of people who love blu ray movies but also do some netflix on the side. The fact that there are blu ray players (ps3 included) that support netflix out of the box should make this pretty obvious.

Personally, I don't like online distribution. Can't sell, can't loan, DRM, etc. I have to sacrifice too many rights as a consumer only to gain local storage in return. And even with a physical copy, I can still rip it to my hard drive, so even that one advantage is nullified. Instant gratification? It takes me less time to drive to the store and buy or rent a blu ray than downloading.

Yes, but you're not a grasping greedy CEO who wants to make more money off ignoramuses who WILL settle for crappy compressed low quality downloads and sees Blu-ray as competition to his iMovie store income.

For all the Buddhist baloney about the man, he IS an insane competitor, and I don't mean it in a good way. Insane to the point of cutting of his nose to spite his face. Insane to the point of alienating his entire high end and pro base for the sake of selling crap downloads to the ignorant.

Insane to the point of megalomania.

Steve should start adding up all the people who *want* BluRay and will buy a PC instead of a Mac just because of it. Some bluray movies come with downloadable versions for portables too.

Not buying a new iMac until it comes with BluRay.

If the size of my CD collection I'm trying to import into iTunes is any indication, I'm in no hurry to start buying Blu-Ray discs anytime soon.

MTE, and I'm not really surprised he's not incorporating BluRay. He's probably just getting bitter about it now, haha.

Quick!!! SOMEONE WRITE AN iPHONE APP that will do just that!!!

(only way to get the man's attention)

hey! leave jobs alone! he just blessed us with new gadgets/computers! :D

Ancient Buddhist curse: May you live in interesting times.

Thank god he wasn't the same way about CDs or we'd probably still be using floppy discs :)

No. We'd all be using Amigas right now, Apple would have gone bankrupt in 1987, and there would be about HALF the PC's in the world there are now, too.

You British guys KNOW what I'm talking about. Amiga ruled GB. And it took Mac until OS X to surpass Workbench 3.1 and MS until Windows 7!! (Almost a decade for those who weren't there.)

Well, I'll tell you what.

I "switched" to a Mac when they went Intel back in 2006 and I've been doing the iPod/iPhone/:apple:TV thing since.

Except no Mac can be the center of my media universe at the moment. For that, I have to keep a PC for (1) Blu-Ray and (2) multichannel sound. And before people who don't know what they're talking about speak up, spdif digital out is not adequate because there is no built-in DTS encoder and even if there were it would degrade quality -- I'm talking 5.1 analog out or HDMI multichannel.

And here I thought Apple wanted to be the center of the digital media universe?

There is a SLIGHT chance that they are working on something that will fit the bill in the revamp of the appleTV, something that will deliver Blu-ray resolution and have large (perhaps very large) screens. But as it will be aimed to the consumer TV market alone, it remains to be seen if any of it will be useful to pro content creators. Unless Jobs talks to some.

IF he knows any.

are you aware if the new 2009 Mac Laptops that support audio over DP will meet your requirements?

i dont mean to come off as rude here, just saying it how it is. nobody cares about quality, and by nobody, i mean the general consumer. you and i are prosumers - we want professional grade quality for consumer prices. apple doesnt provide those services anymore (unfortunately). apple is targeting this consumer market these days - we all know this. it is us prosumers that miss out :(

the last time SJ talked about the :apple:TV it was to say that its a hobby and they are working on it for the fun of it. i believe that there will be a revamp of the :apple:TV - new CPU (probably ARM, meaning the update is a few months/years away), new "macmini look", and a coinciding new HHD (higher HD hehe) movies from the apple store. maybe..

Yeah, Steve is really concerned about all three of them.

I think there's a possibility that Jobs is holding out for decent pricing on the recently-announced BDXL format that is an extension of the current Blu-ray format but can store up to 100 GB of data per disc.

All 3?
You mean those "triple play" bd-movies, which include dvd & digital download version?
its a good idea to do that, a good incentive too! too bad i have caps :(

id rather wait longer for the 500GB versions.. :)

You don't think that Jobs is blocking Blu-ray Discs in the hope of convincing people to buy horribly over-compressed 720p content from Itunes?

Another way of looking at it is "why is the turtle-necked overlord blocking 50 GB discs that are everywhere today, when he's selling 3 GB movies?".
