If anything, Steve won't go down in history without a fight. And I suspect whatever Apple is up to now behind the scene is "GOING to be HUGE". Crossing my fingers for the seemingly diminishing Pro line of products...;)

Finally, good riddance! Hopefully they can put in charge someone who can deliver public roadmaps and products that people actually need and afford.

Why not go and harp on at Microsoft and get them to produce a virus protected OS instead of moaning about affordabilty... cos that the only way u will get what u want... a windoze machine......!

Why are you even a member here!?

May the Steveinator get well soon! With the Palm Pre now announced, there's much combat to be done.

Speaking of combat. Since Steve is biologically half Jewish and half Arab, maybe he is the man to solve the mideast crisis?? Imagine the resume: Invented iPhone. Solved Mid-East Crisis
?!!?!

Get rid of this guy so the company can move forward! only the lunatic fan boys care about the guy. Do you think teenage girls who buy pink iPods give a damn. Its only the drama queen fan boys that even care.

From the Washington Post:

Ironically, it is Gates, his archnemesis, who will likely go down in history as the classy one: the one who knew how to exit gracefully, the one who is devoting the later years of his life, and all of his billions, to helping the world's poorest people -- and not clinging to his CEO job while he insults reporters and plays petty cat-and-mouse games with Apple shareholders and fanboys.

hope your health will get better soon Steve.. i wish! don't care about business too much now, your family, your life.. is much more important than :apple:
There is so many people, who loves you.. just think about it, use this love to recover

dw1017..
So you highlight Mr. Gates laudable efforts to help those less fortunate, right after expressing contempt for those who wish a sick man well. Whatever the point of your post was, it ain't too classy.

Just go buy your Dell and get out. If you can't afford it, you don't "get it".

Oh, geez. Don't we all just love arrogant people with such an attitude. It's folks like you who give Apple and Mac users the a bad "fanboy and elitist" reputation.

But let me see... There's a Mac Pro with two Cinema displays right in front of me, an iMac in the left corner of the room and two PowerBooks and two iPods in the house. So I can afford Apple equipment and obviously "get it".

Still, comments like yours and that of a couple of others here make me want to sell my Apple stuff and go back to the PC world. It's exactly as in Apple's own "I'm a Mac" ads: PC guy is the friendly, helpful person while the Mac comes across as a useless, arrogant snob.

Welcome to the post Steve Jobs-2 era.

I think the washington post article is correct that Steve is trying to hang on to the CEO post, perhaps feeling that he hasn't made as much of an impact as he wants. And the whole June return just happens to coincided with ... WWDC lol.

However, lets face the facts; Steve's health as taken a turn for the worst and it is very likely to me that he will not be returning to day to day operations at Apple Corp. For one thing, even if he did, it is best for apple to just move on now as Steve's health has become just too much of a liability for the company. On news of his leave of absence, Apple stock took a 10% loss.

Apple has good people in charge that really do the day to day work already anyway; Steve is really more or just gives the direction in new products like the iphone. Apple will survive without Steve Jobs.

I think it would be best honestly if Steve took a seat on the Board and retired permanently; as a figurehead of apple he is just causes more issues that he helps.

When asked about releasing a cheap computer such as people speculated they might do awhile back due to the economy, Steve said that he didn't feel Apple could make a $500 computer that wasn't a piece of junk. He also said that Apple does not and cannot cater to everyone, meaning those who are in the market for cheaper computers.

This is the philosophy difference between PC manufacturers and Apple. It is not arrogance, it is a business model, and a pretty damn good one at that if you look at recent history. I realize that you can afford such things, but it is tiresome when those who can't call Apple elitist and whatnot, when in fact Apple is just selling quality products at a price some can't afford. If a person can't afford Apple products, it is just a byproduct of their socioeconomic situation and no big deal ... but don't then complain that those who can are arrogant.

Again:
No More Mac World
No Jobs at Mac World
Dozens of rumors from sites that always had at least 60% right are 100% WRONG
Then came Macworld, nothing.
Then came the hormone problem/letter
Now the leave of absence
Next will be the products

Wow, so you are saying that you think Apple will be releasing new products this year?

STOP THE PRESSES!

Everyone take note - in a shocking turn of events, we can now be quite sure that unlike in years past, Apple will be releasing a series of new products this year! Maybe they will even do so at special press events, with special invitations? I really could not even begin to guess. It's all so knew, so unknown, so mysterious. What does your crystal ball say, hiimamac? Please enlighten us with so much of your sooth-saying talent.

You're acting as though you've uncovered some great conspiracy or plot. What exactly is your motivation?. Steve is sick - no kidding. If the head of a company falls ill, then the fact that that company's marketing strategy will be impacted both near and long term is absolutely elementary. This is especially true for a high profile icon like Steve Jobs. That he did not come right out and say - "Hey I am sick, so we are going to scale back our presence at MacWorld and hold off on upcoming product annoucements." is complete non-news. The fact that there was a PR spin is simply not a big deal, nor out of the ordinary, no at all unexpected. There is always a PR spin, and I am sure Apple has juggled product release dates and product plans many times before for any number of reasons.

What you are suggesting is nothing to get excited about. It is, in fact, all in a day's work at large company with its own best interests to protect. The real news is that Steve is indeed sick as most everyone involved in the Mac community had already deduced over the past year or so. That other events are being forced to change and fall in place around that fact is no big surprise, and certainly not worthy all the hand-waving and spasmatic posting.

The idiot that wrote that article doesn't deserve to be a journalist. Speculation and random jumps of idiocy don't qualify one to publish in a reputable publication. He's really quite a jerk.

jW

Dan Lyons has really turned on Apple recently, I think he might be pissed off at not being as popular since he dropped fake steve.

So, pretty much, you've just rendered your own argument moot by claiming to have purchased Apple products. You obviously wanted them, as opposed to your claim that Apple makes products that people don't want, so you bought them.

And, unless the collection agencies have just appeared at your door, you could obviously afford them, as you HAVE them.

So how am I in the wrong again?

That is their pattern, conform without question or "buy a Dell". Personally, I'd love to see a Get a Mac ad where Jeff Goldblum comes in as a more experienced professional Mac, chases Justin Long's teenage/college fanboy Mac off the screen and then dispatches PC the old fashioned way, by doing PC's tasks better and easier and without the current form factor limitations.

I had a boss once who wouldn't tell or teach her staff anything in fear that we would know what she knew. My mentor taught me everything that she knew so that I could function as she would in her absence. The first boss is a joke in our industry and my mentor is now a regional head.

Just as one President can't ruin this country (USA) The absence of Jobs will not ruin Apple. He has leaders in charge who can carry on. While Steve was the face and possibly the inspiration behind Apple, his ideas will live on.

All I can say is that when I was trying to download AVG antivirus on an old laptop for a client and it was taking forever, my husband started the same download on his brand new Dell PC with Vista. Half way through the same long download, I fired up my G4 iBook and downloaded the same file in minutes and had it installed before his download finished.

I have been using Windows since my son disassembled my Franklin (remember those Apple clones) I got an Ibook from Ebay 18 months ago and I'll never use Windows again.

Feel Better Soon Steve.

I really can't believe how many here have been duped, especially the fan boys.

This whole plot has been planned for a while. THE LAST APPLE RUMOR AND SECRET
(WATCH FOR NEW PRODUCTS SOON).

First we get NO JOBS AT KEYNOTE
The the HORMONE story right after
Now the leave of Absence.

Hello? Me and a few others PINNED HEALTH as soon as there was NO JOBS AT KEYNOTE.

Ask yourself, what would KEYNOTE have been like if Jobs took his leave BEFORE the keynote? The entire week would have been about Jobs.

Therefore, lets announce no Jobs at Keynote (the successor has been planned for a long time). All the rumors that are normally from reliable sources go out the door, not one was right? ? That's because Apple pulled them and fed us the above with intentions of releasing these products in the very near future to show that Apple is fine.

Then came Macworld, nothing, then they fed us the hormone story and now the leave. WAKE UP. I can't believe know one is seeing this. Maybe because I was the director of marketing and worked in P.R., who knows, but after re-reading this thread, it became as CLEAR AS DAY.

This is a huge, super secret marketing and P.R. campaign in order to go out with a bang. There will be new products announced and all will look fine.

The problem is, this is bad news for Steve, so get well soon.
The other bad thing is Steve probably thought this marketing plan up too so while they will appear to be doing all the correct things, it was once again Jobs pulling all the strings in weaving this fine woven thread of deception (although I understand the privacy, but he is the CEO and does have to anwser to investors)..

This has got to be the best SECRET to date - you watch. This will happen.
I was right about his health a while ago, and this plan is as plain as day, it doesn't look good though for Mr. Jobs.

If anyone here prays, great, I do too, but don't you think there are a lot of things we should be praying for too in addition to Steve? Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that but think of all the people around the world, our armed forces, the homeless, the sick, the poor, so many needs. Don't forget about them - and watch how this roles out.

The fact that his health is seriously declining fast is as clear as day, so don't pat yourself on the back too hard. The problem is around here is that people are in too much denial to see this. And we'll see about your new product prediction. I'll give you that much in trying to tell the future.

Horrible idea. Google "Osborne effect"

Interesting thing is that Osborne effect doesn't seem to apply to Apple. Iirc, the Intel Macs were announced over 6 months before they actually came out and this announcement had no ill effects on Apple.

So how many yearly quarters do you suppose his doctors have given him?
