Guys, he isn't on his deathbed! He's just taking leave of absence to recover. Being involved in the running of a company like Apple is extremely high pressure, so it stands to reason that he should take time out.

Maybe some Golden Tickets packaged with iPods for the keys to the kingdom?

Best Wishes to a Great Visionary.

yea keep telling yourself that.

I just saw this somewhere, do you guys know whether it's true or not?
Probably a photoshop.:apple:

I call a fake on this one - besides, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea tests are usually administered independently of the HIV test.

You're probably right, even if he does have HIV, it doesn't mean he'll die soon. People with AIDS live long and productive life.

Id recommend you take that down. Its fake, but if it were real, theres social security information on there and i dont think you need the full force of Apples lawyer team knocking on your door.

For what?

Steve you are truly one of my heros. I look up to you and you are a great man. You revolutionized the world and paved the road for the future. Get Well very soon.

The fact that his health is seriously declining fast is as clear as day, so don't pat yourself on the back too hard. The problem is around here is that people are in too much denial to see this. And we'll see about your new product prediction. I'll give you that much in trying to tell the future.

Well it would be eerie if it happens but it seems so clear when you take a step back and look at the big picture, to concise to be coincidence.

Still, I wish him well and hope he's okay.
He has done so much for the electronic world.

Be well Mr. Jobs.

2% drop

Well all the doomsayers who predicted AAPL would tank were just "chicken littles"
Just a 2% drop, even V was down more than that yesterday.
I think the street is very comfortable with Cook due to his expertise in supply chain management and his great track record at Apple.
Get well Steve!

I think it's more that Apple has a lot of products in the pipeline. Investors will be willing to wait a while to see what the long-term effects of Jobs' absence will be.

Just wondering--I'm not a doctor but maybe some doctors here can answer:

Do doctors ever find out new information that they didn't know before? Or do they know everything immediately?

Also:

Do patients' conditions ever change, or do they remain in the same state forever?

What I'm wondering is: could doctors this week have given Steve Jobs news that he didn't have last week? Or did they give him a full and certain prediction of the future a year ago?

Thanks in advance.

Something I learned in medical school and my residencies:

"Internists know everything, but do nothing.
Surgeons do everything, but know nothing.
Pathologists know everything and do everything, but too late!"

dont see what the big deal is
Sure steve is probably gone forever
but that day is inevitable
it will come for warren buffet as well
and several other ceos
companies come and companies go
sure i like apple's products
There was a time in the 50s when GM/Ford products were the best
Now they aren't
but other companies came in and replaced them
so it is just an evolution
such is life
the next big thing will still be big... whether steve is around or not
and certain things will be a lot better without him - like a 2 button mouse
and we can get rid of some mediocre products like the appletv

I hate to say it, but Apple post-Steve will likely be an utter failure. Think Apple, circa 1995.

Lets face it people, Steve is on his way out. I am a doctor, and no matter what you have heard about Pancreatic cancer, EVERYONE who gets it dies within 5 years (or sooner). (Saying Steve has "the good type" of Pancreatic cancer is like saying "at least they dropped a tactical nuke on my house, and not a real nuke")

Apple needs a charismatic figure to rise up the ranks and fill the void, or Apple will crash and burn.

You must have slept through some of your classes or you would know better. The five year survival rate for adenocarcinoma of the pancreas is around 5%. From what I read SJ had exocrine cancer, an insulinoma or possibly a gastrinoma. They are different and have a different prognosis.

I work with a wolunteer in our hospital who has "survived" pancreatic cancer. She is slim but healthy.

Interestingly, for the doubters out there, this woman spends at least one day a week praying with patients prior to going to surgery.

Well I'll tell you what, I'll meet you back here in June and we'll see who had common sense and who didn't. Wagering over a dying man is not in good taste or else I'd ask you to put some money where your mouth is.

Anyone who still thinks this is a "simple hormonal condition" which is what the SJ apologists were drinking up within just the last several days, is deluding themselves.

There are horses and there are zebras. When you hear hooves.....

You have very strong opinions and are not afraid to defend them. I admire that.

That being said, the intensivist at Walter Reed Medical Center, Washington, D.C. made a similar comment one day on rounds. After one of the residents suggested a very uncommon, very rare but possible diagnosis for a severely ill patient, the intensivist commented, "When you see a man in uniform riding a four legged animal in Central Park, it is a horse not a zebra." As it turns out with that particular patient, the uniformed man was riding a ZEBRA! The resident painted a picture of a policeman riding a zebra in Central Park and gave it to him. The intensivist hung that picture in his office to remind himself that sometimes patients do not read the textbook.

Bloomberg News reporting BREAKING NEWS - Jobs is considering a Liver Transplant.

Also Reuters reporting Doctors think cancer is back

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE50F68620090116

No, its just more medical speculation. I see nothing in that article that actually contains anything regarding what medical treatments Jobs is actually receiving.

From the article:
Doctors who have not treated Jobs say they can only speculate without hard information,

Bolding mine. Furthermore the only mention of the Liver was in mentioning if it were hypothetically infected - something that we do not know since it is only speculation which the artical clearly mentiones.

Great reading...

Here I am on call for anesthesia in a small country hospital in northwestern North Dakota. The operating rooms and delivery suite are quiet so I'm just sitting here reading the MacRumors Forum and enjoying every minute of it.

Isn't it interesting that the doctors don't agree on what is going on! Doctors are human, SJ's doctors are treating a human, it isn't always easy. The Forum doctors, me included, have varying opinions because they haven't examined the patient, read his chart and looked at all the tests, XRays, MRIs, CT scans and whatever else is available to make a reasonable diagnosis and then decide what to do.

Don't any oncologists own Apple computers and read the Forums? It might help.

I am amazed at the number of people who actually read the Washington Post and believe them; same goes for listening to television news programs.

You guys believe the weathermen/women too?

Have a great weekend and keep writing. This is more entertaining and informative than the latest Anesthesiology Journal.

here's the real article on Bloomberg

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aDmh9xsKBMe4&refer=home

Which again only cites doctors who have not treated Jobs and are purely speculating.

The article does not quote anybody besides "people monitoring his illness" who could be anybody and merely quotes s Doctor who:

Brower hasn’t treated Jobs and doesn’t know details of his condition.

There has been no official word on this:

On Jan. 14, he announced that he was taking a five-month medical leave because his health issues were “more complex” than he originally thought.

In a telephone interview today, Jobs said he won’t comment further on his health.

“Why don’t you guys leave me alone -- why is this important?” Jobs said.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling declined to comment. The company’s board members -- including Intuit Inc. Chairman Bill Campbell, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt -- either couldn’t be reached or declined to comment.

I conclude nothing but speculation. Until they reveal who these "People monitoring his illness" we can assume nothing medical.

ETA:
http://www.alleyinsider.com/2009/1/steve-jobs-to-bloomberg-leave-me-alone

These guys claim that Bloomberg is doing nothing more than speculating and saying:
Bloomberg doesn't specify if any of the "people who are monitoring his illness" who think Steve will have a liver transplant actually have any access to Jobs or his medical records. We asked the reporters for clarification; one tells us they "can't offer any more details."

Even yesterday they reported that Job's Pancreas is being removed. Jobs is outright telling them to leave him alone.

Speculation...

I agree. The doctor quoted has not examined SJ, doesn't have his medical information. It is speculation, it might be "educated" speculation but at best is speculation.

There is not one physician listed as authors on that piece.

I have done Whipples. If the cancer hadspread beyond his pancreas, one might still do the operation not as a curative procedure but as a palliative one. Patients whose pancreatic tumor has spread to local surrounding tissues and organs have severe metablolic and digestive problems not to mention pain. I have done a palliative Whipple to improve the quality of life for the patient. The patient did not live long, certainly not five years.

When the head of the pancreas is removed it is impossible for the bile from the liver to get into the small intestine, the duct system goes through the head of the pancreas. The duodenum, gall bladder and antrum of the stomach are removed also. Therefore, reconstruction of the biliary system and intestinal tract is required.

I have no idea what is wrong with him.

I don't have any desire to speculate.

It is interesting to read the comments of contributors to the Forum but unfortunately they are uninformed.
