Get well, Steve.

Reading the tea leaves, from the timing of the announcement, I infer that Apple will be announcing a blow out quarter tomorrow, which should cushion the blow of SJ taking medical leave. If the earnings news is below market expectations, they may have chosen a different time to announce the medical leave news.. ( just a speculation )

Don't think of it as retirement, think of it as taking four three month vacations every year.

PS. I hope he comes back, perhaps with a modified work load.

Well, the man is a modern Hephaistos, in more ways than one.

And like him, we have the great cults worshipping him and the few that can find nothing better to do with their time than despise him.

Meanwhile, he continues to wake up in the morning, put his pants on, and work as well as he knows how.

As a moderator for a very active and drama-laden message board with passionate posters - I can assure you that feeding the trolls and NOT feeding the trolls won't matter. Those that like to spew their vitriol will do so whether or not you reply because they enjoy it as an outlet.

Ignoring them does about as good as when you're parents would tell you to ignore a sibling who was bothering you. How many can honestly say their sibling stopped? Exactly.

What stops a troll? Moderators or site owners who take an active role in removing their presence.

That's not my experience. I was on an unmoderated board and we knew how to manage trolls.

The amount of traffic to a board and the number of new users in that traffic can make it more difficult without moderators though.

Surely you must realise that there are a group of Apple haters who have too much time on their hands, and who come here every day with the sole intention of voting negative to every Apple related story?

Today is a rare chance for them to vote positive!

Maybe some people think that Steve has given enough and should spend time with his family rather than slaving away 15 hours a day 7 days a week? If Steve has a limited time left that I would rather he spend it with friends and family then working. I see it as a posative for him personally to be able to take time off.

I wonder why people would rate steves choice to spend less time working at apple and moretime with family as a negative. My guess

i checked AAPL and couldn't see where the stock fell. it says 348.48 +2.80 0.81%

Maybe it's an American thing, but for us Europeans, a message beginning simply with "Team,..." instead of something like "Dear Team,..." sounds rather, let's say, disrespectful. You'd only do this in the military.

Personally, I find a message that does not have a dear/hi/hey plus a name is rude.

Someone emails me without my name or just uses my name without a hi/hey, etc, I bin the email without reading further.

welcome to business writing. if you wrote a business letter with dear: as the title you'd be laughed at.

Why the positive votes on this story ?
i'd say why the negatives? it's for his health, dont be selfish and expect to get an interrupted stream of iDevices without end, remember there's a human behind the vision for the company.

Later today Apple will be announcing it's "Back to Flash" event and also the support of Blu-Ray...

i laughed:D

As far removed as I am from him, he's in my prayers.

Let's hope he just wants a little time off.

I have absolutely zero confidence that this supposedly unauthorized Apple leak, which comes on a trading holiday, is accurate. Steve had no problem misleading the public about the severity of his health problem last time; only later did he reveal he was at death's door. He's too much a narcissist to care how it affects investors to be honest. And because Apple is so successful, the SEC will turn a blind eye...again.

At any rate, I hope he recovers, whatever the real problem is. But I'm pretty surprised he's taking this step. I didn't expect anything like this to happen again, after the transplant. It must be pretty bad...surely a lot more than the routine discomfort it's being presented as, just like last time.

i dont think steve is the only one who has good ideas at apple and that the company will keep making good products even when he is absent.

"PRAISE THE LORD FOR THE STEVE JOBS" EEEK (sorry, but you sound like you are holding a vigil or standing a pulpit.)

Lighten up, friend. At moments like this we're all prone to being a bit sentimental. Let it go. Personally, I very much enjoyed the post.

People don't seem to be reading the update. Sounds like it's complications with his organ donation. While still bad, much better than cancer relapse.

Yeah, I just corrected my post. You are of course right. My molecular genetics lab days are too far in my history... :(

Happens to me all the time. I have been diagnosed on more than one time with oral poditus.

Well I don't agree. If he has rejection problems than that is far worse than a cancer relapse. Liver's are not growing on trees, and cancer can be treated...

anti-rejection drugs can be changed.
