I'm pumped. Finally decent iPhone notifications!! (I hope)

All I want from ios 5 is something that slightly resembles sbssettings and lockinfo and maybe better notifications.

I know I'm not alone here, but it's always worth saying. Aside from the product releases, gadgets, services, etc., it's ALWAYS nice to see that Steve Jobs is still doing okay, and every time that I still can see him feeling up to speaking at these events, it makes me smile. It really makes me feel lucky for my own health. Good for him, and I hope he ends up okay for as long as possible, with as little discomfort as possible. :apple: :) :apple:

i'd like to be able to use iOS device with secondary/main screen switch mode + much more AirPlay innovation, something to bring devices together, user screen switching and sharing to "family". i realise there are a few bits and bobs about to fangle these, but should be native.

I cannot believe I forgot about the time difference. That's pretty bad for someone doing A level physics to be a pilot

Yeah we know you're becoming a pilot and doing A level physics. For other people it would be just normal to forget about these time differences.

It would be nice to see some updated Mac Mini, MacBook and MacBook Air in one time. Happening of the year for sure ;)

This is highly unusual: Apple announcing a major product/service before Steve-o can work his magic at WWDC. Kinda takes a bit of the surprise and fun out of watching the keynote.

Because their software prices have been dropping, and the mac dev program, which costs $99, gets you a free copy.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that the free copy was only for developer preview testing. The $99 isn't paying for OSX Lion, either, it's paying to be a Mac developer. So I'm not sure that Apple feels obliged to give out the stable version to developers for free when Lion gets released.

I'd go so far as to say that developers will have to buy at full price when it comes out. So if you payed $99 developer registration just to see Lion and not to actually be a developer, you'd have to pay again.

Apple does gives out the stable version to devs, so the $99 covers it.

Therefore it makes no sense to sell OS X for more than that.

The $79 is probably right, maybe even less.

Where is the Apple I have come to know and love? The one that keeps me guessing and feeding off rumors and supposed leaks until 10AM Pacific Time on announcement day?

Apple announcing these things in advance leads me to believe there is something even bigger and better below the surface.

There is no discounted upgrade, just one version. It'll likely be more than Snow Leopard's $29 but less than the full $129 it's been in the past. $79 maybe?
I was thinking the same thing. But then again, Apple has been moving all of it's software to cheaper prices (Aperture $80, FCPX $299) and we now have the Mac App Store. So I'm betting Lion will be $29 thru The Mac App Store and a bit more - like $49 - for a DVD. Maybe a $79 DVD Family pack. Something like that. I think the days of the $129 OS are over.

iCloud / One More Thing / Apple TV

So, with iCloud announced in the press release, what will the one more thing be? iPhone 4S/5? Seems unlikely that a hardware refresh on the Air's would be worthy of that honored spot, but the "mostly kept under wraps" new 4S might be a top candidate.

Had a thought about the iCloud service last night while using my Apple TV. All of the content you can browse from iTunes on Apple TV is only stuff you can rent - this excludes a massive amount of content that is available for purchase.

It would be great to integrate the iCloud with Apple TV, and allow you to purchase content from iTunes and store it in the Cloud. This would expose a lot more content to Apple TV users, and remove the need to download on the Mac and then stream from Home Sharing. I think the iCloud / Apple TV integration has a lot of cool possibilities.

Can someone explain to me what's the point of an Apple music streaming service? (Of course I could save space with it, but with storage prices falling constantly it's not a major issue.)

Streaming would only really be useable over WiFi (3G with my carrier performance and high prices? No thanks), in which case I could just do it locally at home. And if I'm away from my home network, I'd still rather have the content with me which would be more reliable.

I'm happy to be corrected, but I just don't get it :).

Think of it as a large scale test. While storage prices are falling, SSD prices aren’t falling fast enough or gaining capacity fast enough. The future of Apple devices, and thus the future of all computing is going to be super-fast, low power consumption, small SSD/Flash memory devices to cache your most frequently and most recently accessed “stuff” but the majority of your “stuff” will exist in the cloud. Music/Movie will be a great and non-critical stress test – if the cloud goes down it’s annoying, but not going to affect anyones ability to get work done.

Lion is laying the groundwork; the rumor mill surrounding a new file system is percolating again.

Don’t be surprised if Lion is the last major release of OS X, at least under that nomenclature. Considering Apple’s penchant for simplicity and consolidation it’s entirely possible they might opt for the iOS brand to encompass their entire product line, especially if we start to see A* processors in devices like the MacBook Air.

wow this will be big. cant wait! even if there are no hardware releases, will still be good to see the new OS and service offerings :)

why does Apple have to give away what they will release! i don't wont to find out until the event :D maybe a one more thing..
