He should say how great the powermac updates are and get heckled for it. I would get a chuckle out of it. But seriously, I hope he talk about the slowdown in Moore's law that Apple has caused recently. Maybe even bring back Pentium bake-offs so we could see a G5 that is faster than the top of the line pentium. Something that shows just how much better that 200mhz speed-bump is compared to everything else.

And by the way

I've heared that Chrismas is on the 24th of december this year, now how great is that?

Think about it

I honestly hope they're going to come out with the PowerBook G5.

I'm dissappointed, not because I wanted one or needed one, but because Apple was supposed to be ahead of the Windows world. They've certainly achieved this in the software area, but the hardware area is another story (i.e. the 3.0 Ghz marker was supposed to have been crossed last June).

It's going to be the two-year anniversary of the unveiling of the PowerMac G5. Let's hope they release something that will put us out on top again...after all, the iBooks are just one upgrade away from catching up with the PowerBooks.

This is a big misnomer. Why are you saying current Powerbooks are lagging behind PC counterparts? People seem to forget that Powerbooks are only an inch thick; the only Windows laptops with this kind of form factor are Intel 1.6GHz Pentium M chips which are nowhere near as powerful as the standard P4 running at 3+GHz. The fact that standard P4 chips are being used in a "laptop" is a bit of a stretch too; those machines are two inces thick and weigh over 10lbs; not exactly a laptop. You can't compare these "desktop" replacements with Apple's Powerbooks because they are really differen't machines in every respect. Apple could make a portable form factor machine that was two inches thick and ran a G5, but it wouldn't be as elegant as a Powerbook.

So, a 15.4" Dell Inspiron 6000 running a 1.6GHz Pentium M running Windows XP compared to a 1.6GHz G4 Powerbook running OS X? I'll take the Powerbook for performance any day of the week; I know, I've owned both. Powerbooks are not lagging behind anything, except the price; but you get what you pay for.

Anyway, has nothing to do with the keynote but what the heck.

Well, what could he introduce this time? Isn't most of the line updated already, except for the eMac and iMac (I believe) but that's no place to introduce them. I'll hope for something new all together.

Fishes,

Notebooks, my friend-- notebooks. 2005 can be the Year of the Notebook II. ;)

Maybe it doesn't even matter what he announces. Jobs is just so fun to watch perform. Even if all he announces is a new tint for iPod mini colors and a new checkbox in a preference pane, he'll make it sound exciting. That reality distortion field is a nice zone to fall into.

If he announces they're working on "Lion" (10.5) due out sometime in Summer '06, I'll probably start to hate Apple.

Don't expect Lion until VERY late '06 or more likely early '07. Apple is done with the 12 month release cycle.

I'd rather have dual core G4's. Good performance + great battery life + low heat levels.
what about the low power g5 that was rumored around 2 ghz. A 2ghz g5 powerbook, now were talking.

If he announces they're NOT working on 10.5 right now, I'll really hate them. Why would you want Apple to stop innovating? (i.e. REAL innovation, not Microsoft's version).

I'm hoping for new powerbooks at WWDC - I've been saving up for one, and I'll have enough $ (finally) at the beginning of June :p

Since I'm usually one of those people that buys something only to have a new model out a week later, It'd be cool to get something right after an update for a change.

As a mac newbie who's quickly becoming a mac geek, I have to ask, will there be streaming video of the keynote anywhere online?

Apple announced that Steve Jobs would be kicking off the WWDC Keynote on Monday, June 6th 2005 at 10am.

The five-day event which runs from June 6 - 10th is offers developers teaching sessions, Q&As, hands-on labs and more. Details available at Apple's WWDC site.

While the conference is not a consumer-oriented event, Apple has used the WWDC Keynote to launch several hardware items in the recent years. Last year's WWDC brought new LCD's, while 2003's WWDC introduced the PowerMac G5.

Surprise surprise! :p

The chances of a G5 PowerBook at WWDC are about equal to the likelihood of a blizzard in San Francisco the day of the keynote.

I'd be pleasantly surprised by an announcement of a dual-core-based PowerMac, but I'n not holding my breath.

On the other hand, I hope that Steve announces a Tiger update that takes care of the bugs in the current public beta. :)

Hehe "public beta" --- i like that ;)

and you are right the chances of g5 pb is slim, very slim -- i wouldn't mind seeing something good though, something with some balls -- and if not now, then september, i'll buy whatever is available then, but i would like something peppy

My PowerBook gets so hot that I need to wear asbestos trousers and jeopardise my chances of fathering more children!

I agree, I don't think that they'll be using G5's in the next PowerBook.

That made me just about fall out of my chair I was laughing so hard....hence the switch from the terms 'laptop' to notebook...when sperm are involved, technology listens! :D

new, not updated hardware

Just a quick thought, but if we assume that all existing hardware relevant to an event of this type, i.e., a developers' event, not a concumer electronic show, has been recently updated or soon will be, then any hardware announcement would have to be about new, not updated hardware.

If there is a hardware related announcement, then I'm guessing a it'll be a new device.

Of course, it also makes sense that he might introduce a new development suite, no hardware at all.

Just my two cents,

My guess is

a) new HD screens...price drop is needed but also helps clear inventory. I would hope to see a the 20" to allow true HD 1920x1080...but then again maybe next year. Plus I wonder now Tiger supports rotation to portrait, maybe a new (optional) stand will allow swivel in Apple style.

b) no new PBs unless they have solved the dual core and/or G5 issued since its needed to work with H264..if so expect hi res screens as an option or standard

c) pro apple BT mouse ;)

d) new isight with better video CCD and optics (wideangle zoom?)

e) New wireless standard support for 80.11n or other UWB...

It happens when it happens

You know, apple will release a G5 powerbook eventually, just keep your pants on. In the meantime, is there anything you feel your powerbook can't do? Powerbooks are just fine and they will get an update eventually. And on a side note, anybody that celebrates their "Mac birthday" is a dork.
