My guess is that the iPhone will be announced at MWSF '07 -- though I'd love to replace my Sidekick II before I break down and upgrade to a Sidekick 3.

Maybe it'll be launched alongside the new ipod (hopefully) coming out around oct. 23 (ipod 5 year anniversary) ?? just speculating.🙄

on a side note I would not put to much faith in the rumor of an iPhone. Reason behind it is I think for 3 years or so now about once a year iPhone rumors pop up and they all seem really serous. So chance are pretty slim that one will be coming out.

Three years ago you didn't have competitiors selling "iPhone like" devices, now they are flooding the market. If Apple don't act soon, the iPod will die a not-so-slow agonizing death.
Batteries are improving steadily, and most people prefer to have one device instead of a utility belt with gagdets regardless how cool each individual gadget in the belt is. A Utility belt carries the same fashion statement as a pocket protector. 😉
My guess is that we will see some sort of an "iPhone" within a year.

I just saw that Verizon phone ad on TV that looks like a black iPod and has the keypad sliding down. For the first secind I thought "WTF, the Apple Phone!". This thing looks really like an iPod. Apple should sue them for the design.

Why not, the iPod's main focus is an audio device. I believe thats a good description of a phone, an audio device.

perhaps also the iphone and ipod could communicate via bluetooth to transfer pictures, music, etc ?

Yes, Colecovision rocked!

Ah, but did you have the Colecovision Portable? 😱 😎

Colecovision Portable?! 😱

I had no idea such a device existed! Just think of the hours of fun I could have had on this as a child had I been able to have one of these. 🙁

My childhood was obviously horribly incomplete! 😡

How did you know? I keep it right next to my Commodore Pet and my Colecovision. 😎

Hey, don't knock it. I still have a rotary phone simply because it has never stopped working. Seriously. With moving parts you'd think they'd have less of a shelf life, but it isn't so. The audio quality is still better on that phone than two-thirds of the "new fangled" phones in the house. And it just feels better in your hand - against you ear. It's crazy, but I'd rather take a call on that phone, than most of our other phones.

Placing calls is another matter, mainly because I am sooooo lazy.

I don't know if I like apple making a phone. just stick to the ipod and the computer. phones are already done well. not much apple can make better other than releasing a sleek white phone with all the capabilities of every other cell phone on the market.

Not so... just look at the areas where apple offers a significantly better user experience - ipods, computers, etc. So yes indeed if Apple stays true to form they will have something fundamentally better than the other phone "experiences" out there.

Its called bold imagination meets technical innovation and its why we love apple and expect them to blow our minds. IMHO if apple really can integrate the innovations of full screen touch interfaces that have been rumored about - then we could definately look forward to something very compelling.

I am sorry. 🙁 I guess I was one of the fortunate ones... 😉 😎

Not knocking it at all. New != better in all cases. 😎

Using TimeMachine, Steve is going to release it two years ago.

"So, I'm going to click this arrow and Time Machine will keep looking until there's a difference in the Finder."
*iPhone flies out the screen*
"Boom."

Living in a smaller country helps a lot. The US is a heck of a lot bigger than Korea and therefore coverage isn't always good.

Size is not all. Northern parts of Finland are VERY sparsely populated, and event here the coverage is perfect. The actual area might not be as big as USA; but population-density is very low.

Hell, Finland overall has lower population-density than USA does, and we still get perfect coverage.

YOU CAN'T USE THEM WITHOUT LOOKING.

Since you would be hiolding the phone in your hand, would it REALLY be that bad to actually look at the phone? Seriously?

Moving to the potential (rumored) iPod, I find that a touchscreen scroll wheel cool, but (after a while) annoying. There are times when I'm out in the park, kicking back, etc. and all I need to do is turn up the volume, move to the next song (or previous song), etc. I do this BLINDLY without looking. This simply isn't possible with touchscreen only.

Yes it is. Want to notch the volume up? Move your finger to the screen (or near the screen, if it's "no-touch" variety) and make circular motion (like you do today). Want to skip to next song? Move your finger to the screen and move it to the right. And so forth. It's perfectly doable. Just use your imagination a bit.

This is a good point. Here in Canada we are sparsely populated as well (only 35M people in the second largest country on Earth!), and in my province we have 94% of the population having access to wireless services, whether it be cell phone or Internet. I don't know about other provinces, but we have amazing coverage here when you think about our land area being pretty much the size of Texas, with 12% of our area being comprised of roughly 100,000 fresh water lakes and another significant portion being forests. It's not like it's just big cities here, quiet the opposite. 😉 😎
