Two words. Small hands

While yes, I partly agree, I love the 6 because it is finally up to par with the flagship androids that are out now in terms of usability. If anything, it's better since the 6 is a tad smaller. I use a case on my 6 because it's so thin so I don't have a problem with the back. If anything it reminds me of the iPhone 2g

You are in luck! They still sell the 5S. I hear availability is good.

Common sense used vs buy phone then complain on board. As if there weren't a ton of photos on the iPhone 6, specs, a whole keynote and even print outs you could print yourself to give you an exact idea on the size of the phone.

Funny thing though, I have the 6 and can type and use the phone with one hand without issue. It is perfectly sized in my opinion. But I already knew that because I researched before hand.

I have a 6 and my old 5S and I have not decided which I'll keep yet. I'm very accustom to the 4" form factor and how it feels and operates in one hand. That being said, I can use the 6 one handed and the rounded edges on the screen is very nice. I might just keep my 5S for another year though because it might not be worth it to upgrade for me personally.

Keep an open mind. While I agree with most of what you said, let me offer some counter. Maybe it'll make you feel better.

1. The phone is too big and awkward to use one handed.
The benefits of the larger screen real estate outweighs the brief learning curve.

2. The design looks and feels like a Samsung phone using Apple materials.
All candy-bar smartphones look the same. It looks like a Samsung because they were the first ones to push this size, and is the most common.

3. The ugly antenna bands on the back are a huge step down from the 5/5S.
The bands remind of high tech machinery in sci-fi (ie. Star Trek), where you don't really know what/why there's a certain structure/line/design. You just know it's there for a reason. These bands feel like there's function that's 90% blended with the form. I think it's beautiful, and exciting, that engineering has reached a point now where it's possible to do this. The opposite is to build a housing around it, using materials that compromise the build quality and feel of the device (ie. plastic back covers).

4. The phones feel like slippery, rounded plastic devices in the hand.
Hard to argue, but maybe you'll learn to be more careful. Increased hand-eye coordination and dexterity never hurts. I used to drop my phones a lot, but recently sold my 5S in mint condition after over a year with no case.

Steve Jobs did not like big phones... for several reasons. Big phones equals big screens equals less battery life. Not good. Big phones are harder to use. Not good. Big phones without specially tailored software for the larger screen space equals bad user experience. Not good.

With iOS 8 and Reachability, big phones can be used with one hand. Battery and display technology have caught up. iOS 8 apps have iPhone 6+ specific features to them. The default Mail and Messages for example have 6+ specific features.

When people quote Steve Jobs, they forget that he had reasons for why he believed what he believed. But... over time things change and those reasons may not be valid anymore. Steve Jobs was never one to not change his mind over time. The same logic here applies to small tablets. Steve Jobs was against those... for several reasons. Over time, those problems were fixed.

I'm absolutely hating the iPhone 6 I got yesterday for reasons which I'll outline below.

1. The phone is too big and awkward to use one handed.
Apple instead should have stuck with one size that was the same as the 5S or only very slightly larger and then also offered a large phone for the Android phablet fans, instead Apple offered us two phones, neither of which are practical to use one handed.

2. The design looks and feels like a Samsung phone using Apple materials.
The 5 and 5S are gorgeous devices that looked like nothing else at the time. The device even today looks like a work of art. These new designs are super generic and are nearly indistinguishable from many Samsung and Android phones.

3. The ugly antenna bands on the back are a huge step down from the 5/5S.
Was the same intern that designed the iOS7 icons responsible for the back of these devices?

4. The phones feel like slippery, rounded plastic devices in the hand.
These phones have no grip to them whatsoever and will be dropped more often than the 5 and 5S I'm sure.

This phone really feels like a product of a company that feels very threatened by Samsung and is being reactionary instead of revolutionary. Nothing about the 6 or 6 plus feels or looks new or different. The iPhone now looks like a generic Android phone and has completely thrown out most of what Steve worked so hard to establish with his company and devices. I'm a long time Apple fanatic and am extremely disappointed in this device, so much so that I'm considering returning it and going back to 5S until the next iPhone design or switching to Android. Even iOS 8 feels like a total reactionary response to Android. We now have Swype and other third party keyboards that consume resources, drain battery life and can crash etc.

Not all is terrible, I do like the ability to reply to a Message without leaving the app I'm in. That's the best feature so far of the new phones and iOS8, I'm sure Apple Pay will be another killer feature for the new phones but design wise this is a new Apple and it's a Apple that I don't like. This is a sad day indeed for fellow Jobsians. This is NOT a design Steve would have green lighted.

:( :apple: :(

There needs to be a sticky that sends these directly to the junk drawer. We get it you like the 5s. Go back to it and be happy.

That's exactly what the iPhone 6 is. A reaction to the market. 'Consumers want what we don't have.' Apple invented the modern smartphone. Other companies were more ambitious with sizing and it paid off for them. Apple is playing catchup now. Both in the ~5" category and phablet.

I'd argue that the iPhone 6 feels vastly different than the 5/5S. More pleasing to hold, touch, use. I don't agree it throws anything out that Steve and company created. The blueprint of the original model, for better or worse, is still very much there.

Personally I find the 6 to be not so great for one handed use. There are ways around this. Swipe to go back. Reachability. It helps a great deal. But ergonomically Apple took a step back here with the 6. Again, IMO.

If you hate the 6 get the 5S. You have at least 2 more years with a 4" iPhone in their lineup.

What a waste of time. I did not even read the whole thing. Get over it and return the phone if you are not happy.

Why do you think people in these forums immediately dismiss anyone who has an even slightly negative review?

There's plenty about the 4" form factor to like, but the tradeoffs are in the 6's favor. Too many benefits from the new screen size and the new form factor to list - bigger, faster, newer, better.

They are called "Apple Zombies". It's an autonomic response caused by their condition. It's not contagious, so don't worry. Just don't let them bite you.

I thought the same. I'm contemplating on a Gold or Silver 5S 32GB for $599 unlocked at Apple.

U can get a 64gb for 599 here :

On topic : my dad (~65 ) says it looks samsungy. Fanboy in me snubbed him lol. Steve was right in many things but he would have doomed Apple if he didn't increase the size of iPhone at all. I doubt anyone would buy a 3.5 inch flagship. I still wish they had a 4 inch version for PPl who want it. I like the 4.7 inch. My sister feels it's bit big. My girlfriend on the other hand got a 6+ and I fear she might hit me with it some day :p

Steve was wrong. If he would've had a big option way earlier on android never would've become as big as it did.

To those of you attacking me and the validity of my very astute observations, how dare you. To disagree with someone is one thing but to deny the obvious and try to dismiss very valid points by telling someone they are "wasting our time" is pathetic.

If you want your counterpoints to be taken seriously i'd suggest not making yourself look like a blind fanboy living in denial with your head in the sand.

I'm sorry but there is no other way of putting it. This phone is a step back for apple design and now blends in with all the Android phones out there. This will end up hurting apple sales in the long term because there isn't much to differentiate android from Apple aside from the lack of many of the more advanced features of Android in iOS. The average consumer is going to see features like always listening Google Now and 24 hour battery life as a more appealing option.

Steve knew it was smarter to focus on amazing hardware and customize the OS to support that hardware. Without amazing hardware you're just left with a feature gimped OS.

tim cook is a master now , he can do anything he want at apple

dont you see ive or craig or another press so busy working on tech and cook playing around visit apple store or go to interview with sexiest model girl

I completely disagree...

I have fallen completely in love with my 6+ and actually love the size of my wife's 6. Needless to say I feel the design is amazing. The curved ends gives a nice feel to the hands. The antenna I don't notice due to being in a case. Either way I don't feel that it makes it look or feel cheap.

If you don't like it simply give it back and move on.
