I don't know, it would be much more useful if Android would display my text or notification (STOCK) when I get it rather than have a blinking LED in which I will now need to wake and unlock my phone to view...

The only thing I still miss from my past Blackberry days. Six iPhones later and it's still missing...

Apple isn't copying Blackberry so it isn't missing. Perhaps YOU'RE missing it, but I'm not. Sorry but why haven't you changed to a different phone since the iPhone hasn't had what you've wanted since its inception? I'm just curious.

Top 3 Android phones on the market today:

Samsung Galaxy S3 - has it
HTC One X - has it
Google Galaxy Nexus - has it

Please stop chirping. You're making yourself look bad.

Why not just go buy an Android phone?

Also, if you want convenience, wow factor and an indicator light, go check out this wifi enabled light bulb on Kickstarter. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/limemouse/lifx-the-light-bulb-reinvented Part of what it can supposedly do is change to any color and alert you when your phone has a message since it's connected to your phone via an app.

I'm not sure if an LED indicator is a good idea or not, but here's an idea how it could be neatly implemented.

In the centre of the home button is a light grey/white rounded square (that echoes the standard app button shape). Why not make this grey/white strip translucent with a white LED underneath.

Voila, a nice neat LED indicator:

Eureka!

Better patent that before apple sues u!

That's pretty much the one thing (aside from the keyboard) that I love about my blackberry. One glance at it while its sitting on the table and I know what I have - thanks to an app that lets me change colors. Right now I have an email and a text message. Didn't have to touch the phone. As it should be.

If you still don't know why than you simply haven't read the whole thread. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the latter.

Some samsung models including the s2 didnt have led notifications. You had to use apps like noled that would turn on your screen and show a little colorful image moving around your screen. Alot of android devices still dont have led notifications. You'll adapt without it :)

I would definitely want this. I miss it from previous phones; it's very convenient to see if you have a text/missed call. Some of you may carry your phone with you every step you take, but many people don't. Plus, turning on the screen checking for messages takes a lot more battery power than a LED blinking. This has always bothered me about the iPhone.

I respect those who like the feature and I can see some benefits to it. Maybe it'll appear the way people want it to or maybe even a better implementation of it!!

There will never be one (and I'm infinitely grateful for that!). What they might do, however, is use the flash LED as an indicator.

1) Why would they never do it, and why are you grateful for that?
2) Using the camera flash makes no sense... who wants that bright light flashing on and off all the time? Plus, it's on the back of the phone. Most people put their phones down with the screen facing up.

An illuminating home button would be so so sexy

I thought I actually saw that in one of the iphone 5 preview videos after the keynote. Might of been anandtech's youtube video, but then I saw it was just a reflection or something.

I got 170 work emails today, most of which are of no importance (routine notifications).

I don't need a flashing light to let me know I have email - I always have email. What I DO need, and the iphone provides, is a way of knowing whether or not it's email I need to pay attention to.

They wouldn't do it because it doesn't fit their design style, both in aesthetics (each break in the simplicity of the looks is added only reluctantly) and usage design (extra physical buttons or indicators are minimized as much as possible). Also, it would take up space in the phone which is at a premium.

And when they do such things, it's usually by overloading the function of something that already exists if they can (the flash LED). The idea posited about having the home button light up is another possibility. They could also conceivably have the headphone jack light up.

As for why I'm grateful they won't add a ******** annoying LED to the phone? I think I've just answered that.

I love Apple fanboys. LEDs are stupid because Apple doesn't have them. But the moment they do add one, it will be the coolest thing ever. Just like cut and paste...

I agree with op, it would b nice to see one implemented in some way or another. To the fellas that keep busting his or anyone else's balls that agree with him, its not that its very important to have one, its just that it can be a convenient feature to have. Maybe not for you but obviously for some of us. Y'all can just disable it in settings like the other options y'all might be disabling on initial setup. "Newskin says relax!"

There are other smartphone with Android besides those... look into those. Ypu seem to just post what makes your point look good. LED notification is a no go because it is useless method. Like I said, there are other better and more elegant ways.

I only read your first few posts because you're being incredibly ignorant and annoying and judging by them I don't need to go further. There's simply no reason not to have this. If you're gonna complain about it and would rather "just turn the screen on" than you can and you can turn off the option while a blinking light will make it easier for everyone else.
