640x480 x 4 is not even close to 3840x2160 (4K).
Now you are splitting hairs. I said "roughly." You also have to factor the size of iOS has increased over the years as well. My main point is that the camera improvements are not the the primary reason 16GB should go away.

Actually... I would love to see Apple move to a pricing tier of:
16GB $599 <---- This would allow them to promote this as a "price drop." Making the iPhone "more affordable."
32GB $649
64GB $749
128GB $849
256GB $949

I love the idea, but 256 would never happen.

I agree. That way those who really only need 16GB can still get it (and save money) and those who can only afford the lowest tier get a better deal also.

In other news, I have a new 5s. Space grey. It is like many others, but this one is mine. It has 16GB and 1gb of ram. I have a yellow screen and interlacing issues but the home button doesn't crunch and pop and click like the last one. I am happy except for the screen. Everything else is wonderful. I love touch ID. It works great. Rock and Roll McDonald's.

What. The. Actual ****.

What. The. Actual ****.

I cracked up so hard. I felt the same way after reading that post.

On a serious note though, I've got a 16GB Air 2. However, it's only used for movies, news, and other reading. I've got a 64GB Mini 3 and a 128GB 6s. So the reality is I probably couldn't make due with only a single 16GB device....

I remember back when Apple released the iPhone in 2007. It came with 4GB or 8GB. Crazy to think that 9 years later, the base iPhone storage is only 4x.
Not crazy at all. Not everyone needs more than 16g and I'm sure Apple knows that better than all of us combined. That's the reason they sell a 16g.

I think the base model iPhone absolutely needs to be 32gb at the minimum. Apple advertises all of these awesome features, but you need to buy a better model of the phone to actually use them!
The iPad on the other hand is another matter. I have a 64gb Air 2 (would have gotten 16, but the upgrade was free) and I'm using less than 9 gigs on it. It's used solely as a safari/youtube device with the occasional pages document, but more storage isn't really necessary. Then again, having a 32gb base model wouldn't hurt either, and I'm sure no one would complain about that.

I don't know where you work, but I work in BB Mobile and I have personally done 2 returns of 16GB phones so they could upgrade to a larger capacity phone.

Thats all well and good, but in 2015, the 16GB model should be priced below what the normal base model is.

Woah, currently 4x on camera is 8mp. So no, the camera has 6x.

You even mentioned 4K video... 16GB LOL.

You must be working for Apple because I'm sure everyone agrees that 32GB should be minimum.
Yeah, 32 is even pushing the lower limit. I just traded my iPad Mini 2 32gb lte for a Mini 4 64gb lte and now have a little breathing room. I do not have tons of music or movies stored in it. My Older Air 1 32gb lte, is full to the point that I have to take stock and dump apps every now and then. I hate having to do that.

I've had a 16gb iPhone for as long as I can remember and have been able to manage with it the entire time. For one I don't use it like a computer. I take photos and video and then download them to my computer from iCloud. Then delete them from my phone. I don't download movies from iTunes I'd rather use my iPad Air 2 for that. My iPhone is used as a gasp, phone. I only put on it what I actually am going to use. My iPhone 6 Plus is used for music and a few games. My iPhone 6s is used as a phone.

Two scenarios with returns at this time:

Minimal amount of larger storage sizes available at stores and in the color and carrier one wants.
Minimal amount if any of 6s Plus variants if one prefers that instead no matter what color.

And folks would rather not be without an iphone so that is all. :)

I wonder which storage OP's iPhone has
His is 64GB. Me, along with others had a long debate on why apple should remove the 16Gb iPhone as the storage is too small for a premium entry level smartphone. Warrior argued its not, apple needs to keep it to keep the profit otherwise bad things happen.

While he doesn't even own the 16Gb. Lol

640x480 x 4 = 1,228,800, 3840x2160 = 8,294,400. You call a difference of 7,065,600 pixels splitting hairs? Please just admit you were wrong on that one.

(Hopefully you're aware pixel counts don't directly translate to storage used by compressed video anyway. A more accurate comparison would be with video bitrates on the 3G and 6s.)
My main point is that the camera improvements are not the the primary reason 16GB should go away.
Use of the camera is certainly one of the largest storage-eating factors on iPhones, as many people use their iPhones as a main device to take photos and videos. Luckily for owners of 16 GB devices, 4K is turned off by default, but Live Photos is not.

OP hasn't been back since his first post. Mods please ban. Thanks.
The original poster hasn't been back to reply since his original post... so he should be banned from using the forums? Maybe he has a life outside of the internet and posting on MacRumors isn't a top priority... or maybe he does regularly post but had a personal family emergency and so he isn't on here posting.... or maybe he just posted what he has experienced as an employee of a retailer who sells iPhones and since everyone in this thread seems to be jumping down his throat ready to attack with spears in hand... because those people are holding some sort of grudge against the idea of 16GB iPhones and/or anyone satisfied by them.

The guy hasn't broken any forum rules. Please... don't point your nose too high... you might get a nosebleed.

Sigh... ok.... I don't want your MacRumors forums honor tarnished. To appease your internet ego and keep it from getting battered and bruised...

I was wrong about you splitting hairs. You are splitting entire dreadlocks.
