i dont think they will release a new imac this year. as mentioned above, with haswell being just a year away i think they will release new imacs with that in.

I don't think they'll release an iMac in 2013. Broadwell is just a year after that.

Processors typically make big improvements every other year. Ivy Bridge was the comparatively small update.

but GPU´s have made a big jump. and from what info I collected the Ivy Bridge takes less power..and it´s something the iMac really need, its a CPU that doesn´t heat up the machine to the extent the current does under heavy calculations.

other than that there´s USB 3, less reflective screen, so there´s quite a bit of stuff which would be nice for an update.

Of course. One year gets the speed focus, one year gets the power draw & die size focus.

Just pointing out that anyone can make a claim that Apple is skipping a year of updates simply because Intel is releasing a new CPU the following year. My claim doesn't make any more or less sense than the "skipping Ivy Bridge because Haswell is next year" claim.

I'm so fed up of waiting... Hope there's some more rumors this week :( not just Samsung trial and iPhone stuff - so bored..
With all the leaks of the iPhone i still don't understand what is significantly new compared to the 4s...

I KNOW!! im so sick and tired of this iphone rumor thing... Im waiting for the new iphone and im gonna get one but can these rumors sites report on something else besides that... omfg its getting so annoying. They Should talk to sources and ask around. I think they just see iphone rumors coming up and thats all it matters. Im so tired of the iphone rumors. WE KNOW, its gonna have larger screen, we know its gonna have smaller pin/sim tray. we know its gonna be slimmer and we know its gonna be black and white, we kniow its gonna look like the 4/4s (somewhat) so can we please chill it with the iphone news and bring us something we dont know about ... like idk THE IMAC!!!!!! whos been long forgotten...sorry for the rant its just kinda of annoying.

screen lamination issues

What issues? They have been making the screens for the last 2 years.

----------

.. except for the fact that Ivy Bridge wasn't out yet. But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Wow, i'm not on here even 1 day and the poorly educated people are already attacking my facts with their poorly informed opinions.
Ivy Bridge was released in March, along with multiple Windows laptops and desktops featuring the processors.

Everyone block "forty2j", clearly he knows nothing about macs or computer hardware.

Wow, I can't get through one day without seeing poorly educated people that think they are educated go around spreading false facts. As the above poster rightly mentioned, Ivy Bridge Processors were released in april. Perhaps we should "block" you instead? Not that you need more blockage...

Well, the point is 2011 iMac came up with latest and greatest update available at the time, it was a relatively swift update too. It had early access to Z68 chipset, it had Radeon 6M series, and Thunderbolt. Shame it didn't have USB 3 though.

But all in all, its specs was quite ahead of its time. There was quite enough wow factor. Far before any other desktop could catch up.
Now? Other OEMs catching up, showing up with IB CPU bumps, Kepler GPUs, and Thunderbolt starts popping up in PC market too.

So I can't blame people who's gotten on their nerves and mock Apple to might as well wait for Haswell iMac instead. 4 or 5 months delay is a looong essential time in tech world.

Hilarious

Glass houses, stones, etc.

Something about Macs: they're using a new kind of screen this year. Expected to be of similar construction to the new Retina MBP screen, but not necessarily Retina. The glare reduction with this process is expected to be significant. The manufacturing issues with this have been referenced on this very site. So, not one they've been building for over 2 years.

Something about computer hardware: As noted above, Ivy Bridge was a late April release. In fact it looked like several OEMs launched their new models early and plugged in Sandy Bridge in an attempt to dupe the less informed consumer. When Ivy Bridge started to ship they silently switched to the new CPU.

Something about Macs AND computer hardware: it appears evident that Apple is switching to Nvidia. The top offering from Nvidia expected to be in a max iMac, the GTX 680M, didn't even ship until July. Hell the equivalent AMD 7970m didn't ship until early April.

But no, there was no reason iMacs couldn't have launched in March. As long as you wanted the full glare screen, a minor speed bump on Sandy Bridge, and an AMD 6990m.

Ivy Bridge was released in April, not March

Incorrect. It was released in March and became available to consumers in April.

The public release date and date chips are supplied to computer manufacturers are very different.

Thank you, I'm glad more people will be ignoring the ignorance of forty2j. :)

That is false information.

Perhaps we should "block" you instead?

Hello All,

I was interested to see who here is still patiently waiting for the supposed 2012 iMac, or has hopped on the Hackintosh bandwagon? I have been following this website for sometime now:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/100-building-customac-buyer-s-guide-2012.html

They have some really great custom builds there, with native Ivy Bridge, Thunderbolt, and Nvidia Kepler desktop graphics support, all running under the awesomeness of Mountain Lion. A moderately powerful build will run you around $1600, throw in a decent Dell monitor, and you're looking at $1900-2000 total. Not bad at all considering the raw performance you obtain with such a rig, and the ability to boot both OSX and Windows. I am eagerly awaiting the new iMac, but I dare to admit, I am easily tempted at the thought of building my own gaming/computing rig that could run both OSes. Anyone here have any experience with Hackintoshes? I know there's few tinkering involved as far as settings and drivers/kexts and what have you, and there's also the issue of aesthetics (I personally love the simplicity of the iMacs all in one, and prefer that over all the wires, clutter, and wasted space that comes with having a huge tower, monitor, and speakers), but these appear to be minute annoyances, and the stability of such systems are much improved and have come along way. If I were to build, I would follow the guide exactly and select the recommended/compatible hardware. I have a MacBook Air as a backup machine if anything goes wrong. What do you guys think? Is is better off just avoiding this headache altogether and just waiting for the new iMac? (which is a headache in and of itself!)

Go for the hackintosh! I did and I'm glad I did! I followed the tonymacx86 buyers guides and looked at the golden builds on the site and everything went smoothly. It's really not a headache, all you need is a free day on the weekend and you can knock it out. From start to finish it probably took me 5 hours. Around 2 hours for the build itself and then the rest of the time was installing OSX and troubleshooting a few minor issues.

*sigh* LOL

I'm still waiting.

As much as I love my new MacBook Air (13", 1.8GHz, 4GB RAM), which I bought because I couldn't wait any longer and I sold my Mid-2007 24" iMac. I lost interest on NoteBooks because of the iPad/Tablets, it's just a PITA to carry around.

I wish I can keep the Air but budget is tight. I will sell it once Apple releases it.

Don't plan on getting the next model.

What I do plan on doing is dropping a 3770s into my current '11 i5 27" and picking up a Thunderbolt/USB3 hub.
Cheaper than dropping another $2000 on a machine I don't need but just want.

My current video card plays anything I will do, I'm not a big gamer so not a huge selling point for me.

I just sold my 2010 MBA 13" for $1000 even today so I went and picked up a new 2012 MBA 13", since I'm on it 60-70% of the time and I only use the iMac for my big projects I can wait until late 2013 early '14 to get a newer model.

I want to ignore this guy but he's just too damn funny. His "sources" are a woefully out of date Oct 2011 write up, before all the delays, and then the piece confirming the late April release. And he doesn't realize that an OEM can't sell a chip before its public launch date without express permission.

Takes all kinds I guess...

What issues? Issues reported by a very reliable source according to Mac rumors and other rumors sites. Kou says that there's been screen lamination issues. And you said it. Yourself "what screen issues? they've been doing the same screen for two years. Thats true that means theres gonna be a new screen and with that a new design",that's why the iMac is taking so long. All the components for the 2012 iMac is already out if it wasn't to be a new design we would have had the iMac by now. All the pieces of the puzzle start fitting into place.
Ps. Read recent rumors before your start talking.

You sir, are not a mac. You make me sick.

Insulting me for no reason on multiple different threads is just becoming annoying. I appreciate your opinion but its stupid to just attack someone based on their choice of computer. I don't know where you got your sense of superiority but please keep it to yourself.

I have had a hackintosh for about 3 years. Ive been accumulating an apple giftcard for either a new imac or mac pro for almost a year now. I just upgraded to mountain lion on my hackintosh. It reminded me why I started the giftcard in first place. don't get me wrong hackintosh is great as like a bandaid. once you get it running it works flawlessly and never gives you any crap but major updates like lion and mountain lion can be a headache. I kept getting kernel panics upgrading to mountain lion. I finally have it all ironed out but I cannot wait to get my imac/mac pro and be done with it.

There is your fault.
Rumors without evidence to support them should never be given any sort of credibility.

Psst, did you hear? There is a rumor Apple is already shipping the iPhone5 and the iPhone6 will be released next!
Source: There has already been 5 iPhones.

Thats true that means theres gonna be a new screen and with that a new design"
Sorry, there has been zero evidence to support that claim. Not even so much as a differently shaped cable.

Ps. Read recent rumors before your start talking.
My what start talking?
Ps. Read the definition of "rumor".

I have had a hackintosh for about 3 years.

No you haven't, there is no such thing.
Does running Windows on my Macbook make it a macindell? No.
Does running Linux on a PC make it a Pinux? No.
Running an illegal installation of OSX on a PC doesn't make it anything other than a normal PC.

I'm with you sir. A few weirdo takes "I'm a Mac" campaign far too seriously.

:D

I'm beginning to feel a bit tired of waiting for the new iMac. Remember waiting for the new Mini. I eventually bought the current model at that time. The new one came a year after my purchase, although everybody was saying it was just around the corner.
I guess I'll go for the new MacBook Pro. A nice little combo with a 24 inch display would do for me at the moment. Of course I could buy the iMac, but only if it was reasonably discounted. Unfortunately- it isn't. What do you think ? Should I wait a little longer ?

I jumped, built my hackintosh last week and couldn't be happier. Was a complete breeze to setup, rock solid and has totally exceeded my expectations.

For me the also very good thing about IMAC, despite the design, is that its compact, no more thousound of cables everywhere!

So I won't go for an hackintosh, even because I don't have time to play with hack, update and things like that. I need something solid and working now.

I was in doubt if to buy the IMac, cause I was waiting for the new one, but tired to waiting I bought a refurbished one (imac 2011 3.4ghz) and Im very happy. When the new IMAC will be out, I will sell this one and I will buy the new one.

Ciao.
