Ok. I own your house. Give it to me. Don't ask me why I own it... I just do. You prove otherwise. Disagree? Fine. We'll wait for the authorities/courts to decide. In the meantime, move out.
Where did you learn English?
All i mean by this is:
If i own your house, then why cant i ask for you to give it to me. As in if you want it to be speech use ""
Finally read the rest of my post to understand the latter, generally you would call the police, because otherwise you could be charged for assault. Finally a house is very different to a computer which you may be able to just sneak away with instead of a house where the other party is living.

Same thing as the OP.

1.) Op buys merchandise.
2.) OP shows merchandise to somebody else, he says it's his. Keeps it.
3.) Op says OK. Walks away.

LOL!

Whoever has the item at the time of the dispute keeps it until the proper authorities decide where it goes.

End of story.

I didn't say you get just take it from person without a fight. Just stating for example if you saw your computer in a thieves house and the door was open you could walk in and take it. As i mentioned later in my post practically none of this is necessary, but as long as they don't use violent force it is allowed.

Got screwed, my macbook has a password on it

I was looking for a macbook pro, someone advised that I check the local listings on Craigslist.

So I looked around for a couple of days and purchased a macbook pro yesterday from a person on craigslist. He gave me the serial number and the screenshot of the Apple Serial number website he also said there was a firmware issue and Apple Care would cover it and provide information to fix it.

I called Apple I wanted to make sure it was not stolen, or had any other issues. The representative Chrise whom I spoke with at Applecare informed me that the computer was clean, and had not been flagged for any reason. She also informed me that the computer had 3 years of Apple Care and that I should have no problems till it ran out. In fact she even emailed me a link for the firmware unlock which she said would be simple to fix.

Yesterday feeling better that I was making a safe purchase, I met the seller at a Target and bought the computer. He showed me that Office, Internet and everything worked. Today I tried installing something and its asking for an admin password.

I tried to get in touch with the seller, no trace of him and the cell number.

What do I do?

OP, someone necro'd this from two years ago. I found the thread interesting. I know it's two years later, but care to add anything to it to close the chapter?

So, this afternoon I was called by a detective from Chicago. He informed me that a rash of Apple store burglaries has been happening from Chicago, all the way to the eastern seaboard. Cleveland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, had all been hit. The stolen machine I bought was stolen from the Apple store in his jurisdiction. He has been tracking the stolen computers, and they have been turning up all over the place. Apple has been forwarding much of the evidence and victims info to him. He also informed me that the FBI is was involved.

I also found out how the burglarys happen. Basically, the burglars smash through the glass/front entrance of the particular store, and grab all they can in just a minute or two. You can see a video of one such incident on youtube. Just search for Apple Store burglary. It's pretty crazy. Apparently Apple refuses to put security gates/bars on their stores....it's an aesthetic choice I think. Anyway, the burglars are organized, and pretty clever. They use pre paid phones and travel around selling these computers to unsuspecting people on craigslist. My description of the suspect matched up with feedback the detective was getting from some of the other victims. It's basically a organized gang of young men. I have more info, but don't think it wise to share any more details.

I also spoke with Apple customer relations today. They took all my information, and created a case. They said it might take a few days before they get back to me. The rep informed me that this incident needed escalated, and he had never dealt with such an incident. He forwarded the case to the theft/loss division. I'm pretty sure the theft/loss division is a bit understaffed/overwhelmed at the moment. I plan on calling back everyday and bugging them until the situation is resolved.

So anyway, this is where I'm at. I feel better after talking with the detective. He told me that there has been some talk of reimbursing the victims with Apple vouchers so they can get new computers. Obviously the final decision would be Apple's, but at least the idea has been brought up.

It's all actually pretty interesting.

Fingers crossed.

No kidding. It's like a show that got cancelled before they tied up all the loose ends.

WHAT HAPPENED!!!!

In incidents like this where people like the OP are graced with a free replacement for PR purposes, do they make the recipient sign an NDA? Might be why OP went silent.

bummer yo

a "good deal" on ebay or craigslist would be 2- 4 hundred on a used macbook pro with retina display and 1 - 3 hundred for any other macbook pro that is near mint condition. that way if it turns out to be a dud, you didn't pay an arm and a leg. the only time i would pay an arm and a leg is NEW or REFURB from the store online itself because of the return policy and peace of mind.

if you want a "good deal" and get "ripped off" just 'deal' with it because if you saved up a little more you could have got the 'best deal' the 'real deal'. certain things are worth 'bargain hunting for' folks while most things especially mac products, NOT worth 'bargain hunting' because what ends up happening mostly is you get 'shafted' through and through.
