whose work requires Chrome
What happens if you use a different Chromium browser instead?

I thought, nay hoped, that the days of browser-specificity died decades ago. I remember working for a publishing firm whose internal admin system required Internet Explorer -- which didn't exist on all the Macs... 🙄

I checked ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default.

There is no folder named OptGuideOnDeviceModel there, and no close OptGuide* matches in the Default profile. I opened the Default folder in Finder.

All you pearl-clutchers exercising your outrage: this is a LOCAL model. That has major privacy advantages. You’d be complaining the same if it was in the cloud but you’d probably complain about the fact that it’s in the cloud.
Pearl-clutchers? I dont care if it is a "LOCAL model".What I want is to be ASKED before trash like this is just loaded without my knowledge.

But I am guessing you are either a paid shill or more than likely a bot .. so this comment is pointless.

I'll check this when I get home from work -- but I strongly suspect that my Intel-era iMac is too old to support the model.

My gaming PC, on the other hand... that one's a solid "maybe." I guess I'll have to search for info on whether or not this issue also applies to Windows boxes.

But if I use Chrome, I likely want the AI, right? The Gemini integration is its main feature advantage right now. I don't need instructions on how to lobotomize my browser.

If that is the only thing that's better than other browsers, why not use a better browser?

Personally, I prefer Chrome's dev tools to the competition, so I'm sort of stuck with it.
