I find it funny that anyone would care what other people do to the point that it bothers them.
Because the only thing to consider is financial? I’ve layed out several non-financial reasons why doing this is poor form.I always order a few as not sure of the color keep a few days them make a decision on what I will keep that's my choice why travel to a store when they can come to me if it was not financially viable for Apple they would find a way to stop this.
If some people are not happy I do this tough luck
Good for you for doing some research before making your purchase 🥰Good for you, but other people will probably beg to differ. I always want to visit my Local Apple Store to take a look at the device in person, play around with it a bit before making a final decision, including the colour choice. And I am not alone.
That's the main idea behind the 14-day no questions asked return policy. The consumer has the right to try the product, before deciding to keep it. The consumer rights come before the manufacturer's / seller's.
Talk to your regulators, so the manufacturers won't charge you for their problems.I am not defending mfgs. or trying to protect their profits. I merely point out that this ridiculous behavior costs me $ since the mfg. will have to charge me extra $ to cover all these returns.
If Apple would have actually done something new I don’t think this would be happening as much. The amount of people I see on this forum ordering the latest iPhone and then returning within the return window is really frustrating. I would suggest it’s only so those doing it can take part in the pre-order/new release hype with no real intention of keeping the device. But it takes away a phone from someone else waiting during launch, not to the mention the environmental impact and administrative burden.
Has it bothered anyone else seeing this practice be mentioned on here?
Might not be a popular opinion here (I haven't looked at the responses yet) but I agree with you.The amount of people I see on this forum ordering the latest iPhone and then returning within the return window is really frustrating. There's no way that they can sell it as new once the box has been opened. No matter how well they polish and repackage it, someone somewhere would have picked up on some clue that their "new" iPhone was previously owned, and Apple would be in crap once that got out.Likely sold as new.

Thank you for flexing your consumer rightsI returned my pro because the black titanium is a fingerprint magnet. Going back to natural.
But some do mind & seemingly order an iPhone, that they have no intention of keeping, just so they can have a shiny new box to open on launch day. I must have been brought up differently, as I find it reprehensible, it goes completely against my own morals.FWIW; my family’s order arrives on 10/4, the first year we slipped past launch date. I don’t mind being patient.
Well it’s not as though they’re chucking all these returned phones in a big old bonfire at Apple Park so everyone can roast marshmallows over them after work..
They actually do repurpose them as refurbs/replacements etc…
This is exactly it.Might not be a popular opinion here (I haven't looked at the responses yet) but I agree with you.
There are legitimate reasons to buy and return a product. That's why there's a return window. But some people buy with no intention of keeping the product. Some just want to play with it for a little bit. I've heard of people buying every colour just to see what they look like in person (that's what display models in stores are for!) but they only plan on keeping one.
It's wrong for all the reasons that you mentioned. It makes the product more scarce for people who actually want one to keep, and it wastes time and money, and has an environmental impact. One could argue that these things are negligible in the grand scheme of things, but waste is still waste.
This is exactly it.
Some people will respond with the usual 'ill do what I want don't tell me what to do' - which is sadly far more common of an attitude with people nowadays.
Exactly. I would hope people would at least try to do basic research. If you are concerned about weight or color then go to a store to check it out first. Check out the reviews and features on the innumerable websites dedicated to that purpose. Before I bought my first ever Max I made cardboard cutouts the exact size of the Pro and Pro Max based on Apple’s specs. I could put the larger Max version in my pocket of a couple pair of shorts and jeans. It was faster than driving to a store. I definitely get that people have regret or it wasn’t what they expected for whatever reason. I’d just like to see effort put into some degree of research before buying. The point of this thread is NOT criticising someone legitimately choosing to buy something they have every intention of wanting and keeping and for whatever reason find that it doesn't suit their purposes then send it back to apple...
This was me with the watch! I ordered alum w/green band. decided i wanted alum w/milanese, so i ordered then cancelled the alum w/green.Its usually indecisive people who can't decide on a particular size or colour and need to go through several combinations before they settle.
I did this! Before I bought my first ever Max I made cardboard cutouts the exact size of the Pro and Pro Max based on Apple’s specs.
