This happened to me today (8th July) - thanks very much, I unplugged the monitor for 15 seconds and that seems to have resolved it. I'm on firmware 15.5. Monterey 12.4
How strange. The same thing happened to me today (8th July) too.
Was trying different videos/music and it kept cutting out audio after 3-4 seconds.
Switched audio output to Mac Studio then back to Studio Display and it would play again for 3-4 seconds and cut out.

Never happened before. Had to unplug 15 seconds and it seems fixed for now...

EDIT: Judging by others having this problem and a power cycle fixing it, I guess it's a software/firmware issue. I don't know how useful it may be but I submitted some info to Apple here under the display section and "report a problem". Might be worth doing if others experience it.

Noticed this on BOTH of my ASD's. Started watching a YT video and after 10 seconds the audio quickly crackled and then cut out. I was able to switch sound to 2nd monitor and it did the same thing. I could continue to switch back and forth between the two, but audio would only last for about 10 seconds or so.

Very concerning.

Power-cycled and just booted up. Hopefully that's the last of that issue.

Yep, first time it happened to me as well this evening. Had the ASD about 2 months now and watching YT, it crackled a few seconds and then sound went. Cycling to the MBP M1 speakers there was sound and then back to the ASD the sound worked but after a few seconds it crackled and dropped again. Power cycle off and on and it fixed the issue. For now.

This seems a heck of a coincidence. Happened to me for the first time today as well.
Something’s up.

Happened to me for the first time today as well. My old Ultrafine 5K used to do this a lot, however disconnecting the usb-c to the laptop would usually fix it. Had to pull the power plug on my studio display.

Just happened to me too. Just adjusted volume of a video in VLC and then all system audio lost until a power cycle.

Mine did it yesterday as well. I was watching YouTube TV via safari and it started crackling and cutting out. Unplugged and plugged it back in after 30 seconds and it’s been fine since. Weird part is I have 2 studio displays and this only happened to one. I switched sound to the other display when it broke and that one was fine. I’m using a mac studio if it matters

It happened to me tonight. I have a dual Studio display setup and both monitors gave me audio issues using safari on a popular “hub” steaming video site. I had to use my HomePod for the speaker. I do have the Mac MX master mouse. I will do the unplug reset in the morning but happy to know others are experiencing this issue. Actually, not happy.

Happened to me for the first time today, after 2 months without issues. Weird enough.
1. I have no logitech and never will again.
2. I restarted coreaudiohd, didn't do anything.
3. What I did recently is install Webex (ugh, had to)

Audio went out for me the other day for the first time. Quickly fixed that by unplugging the power cable for 10 seconds and plugging it back in

Same problem/temporary fix for me - experienced first time today when changing volume from the keyboard. Reported to Apple...

I have had my Mac Studio (Max) and Studio Display for about three weeks. No problems until today when the sound from the display speakers had intermittent dropout. For example there would be five seconds of sounds and two of dropout, then seven of sound and one of dropout. The intervals seemed random. This was not the crackling noise that others have described in other threads. This did not happen if I switched the output to the internal speaker of the Mac or used headphones plugged into the Mac headphone jack. I tried using a different thunderbolt port on the Mac without success. Rebooting the Mac didn't help. Just as I was thinking that I had an evolving hardware failure in the display I decided to reboot, i.e. power cycle, the display. This fixed the problem! It has been stable now for a few hours. I wouldn't think that a failing hardware component would get fixed by a power cycle. I have read that the Studio Display actually runs a version of the iOS operating system. Do you think this is a software (firmware) problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I experience this issue for the first time this morning. I restarted the Mac Studio but the issue persisted. Panic ensued. I then found this post and unplugged the Studio Display for ten seconds. That worked!!! Crisis aborted. I hope the issue is some sort of bug that Apple can fix with a firmware update.

I also hope Apple provides a way to power-cycle the Studio Display without physically unplugging it. Crawling under my dusty desk is unpleasant. 😃
