Can I run 2 XDR's from my MB Pro M1 14'??
If so, do the monitors run at 60Hz, instead of 120Hz?
And can I daisy chain two monitors from the M1 Pro?

I got 3 of them to connect to Mac Studio (which hasn’t arrived yet). I tested on my mbp m3 max - but only 2 work. It doesn’t seem to work with 3 of them, even if I set them all to 60hz.

Anyone else tried on a mbp? Aside from that going from 2 studios to 3 xdr’s is just wow. I didn’t notice that much difference at first but when I actually started using them I could see the difference with various apps (colours/ contrast etc). For example YouTube, coding windows.
Also when it started to get dark and I hadn’t turned the lights on the bleed on my mbp was terrible next to these!

So it works great from the PC side. The Mac side only passes video, which I guess kinda makes sense. Video is 5k 120hz on both sides, but using the USB4 cables that come with the switch it only passes video and not data (so no camera or audio on the Mac side).

Thank you for the reply, really appreciated. That's a shame it only works with video.

Questions I have about my XDR:

1. What is the easiest way to power it on and off? Do I literally have to unplug it from my computer each time?
2. What is the easiest way to raise or lower the brightness? The keyboard button on my MacBook only alters the brightness on the MacBook, not the external display.
3. Is there a way to lower the bass on the speakers? When listening to Youtube videos, it makes voices sound much boom-ier than they should be, especially compared to my 16" MacBook Pro, which has the perfect balance of low, mid, and highs in my opinion.

Hope it's just a glitch that will be fixed soon by a new firmware.
Do you confirm you can enable 120Hz with the M2 Ultra ? Just to be sure, I'm planning to buy the XDR tomorrow. And did you have adaptive refresh rate enabled when that happened ?
Yes to both.

This is happening to me too (hence why I'm here to search the forum). M2 Ultra Mac Studio. I did some research on the panic error and it says it's from "AppleDCP" which is Apple's Display Co-Processor. Wasn't sure if I was a one-off because of the amount of I/O on my computer, if there's an app that's triggering it (randomly), or if it's just early adopter woes. Kind of bummed.
Seeing this on my Mac Studio M2 Ultra as well! Hopefully they provide a fix soon

Has anyone verified if buzzing is still an issue? I LOVED my Studio Displays, but we live in an apartment where electrical interference caused them to whine so badly it was giving me a headache, so I had to sell them.

The Studio Display XDR I just picked up has no buzzing, but I'm familiar with it from the original Studio Display, so hopefully they fixed it or I got a better unit.

Mine have arrived and both worked first time with 120Hz, daisy chained to my M4 Pro Mac Mini.
Do you have two Studio Display XDRs running at 120 Hz with the Mac mini M4 Pro? Which Mac Mini configuration do you have, the 12-core CPU / 16-core GPU or the 14-core CPU / 20-core GPU?

Third time since yesterday 🔥😂🤯

I'm seeing similar crashes. Three times within an hour today.

Using Studio Display XDR with Adobe Bridge and ACR, editing a NEF (Nikon RAW) file in HDR mode. Simple global adjustments: exposure, contrast, clarity, vibrance, etc. The screen goes suddenly black, or mostly black with a column of colored hash on the right side and then, a few seconds later, completely black. No response to keyboard and mouse inputs. Restart required.

I am running it off a Mac Mini M4 Pro, with 24GB RAM, and the TB5 cable that came with the monitor. All macOS and Adobe software and firmware are on latest versions. Studio Display XDR firmware is at version 26.3 (Build 23D8128), which I believe is the recently updated one.

Crash logs were sent to Apple, but I have not figured out a pattern, or how to replicate the crash.

I have a MBP M1 Max and a 32" XDR. Does any know if I can run the 27" XDR along with it? Or do I have to wait until I upgrade the MBP next year? - thanks.

Several people are asking why they’re having difficulty running the Studio XDR at full refresh rate with a second monitor using their MBP M4 Pro when it’s fine with a Mac Mini M4 Pro (or even a plain M4). It’s probably because the Mini doesn’t have an internal screen. I learned this the hard way when I connected my MBP M4 Pro to both the new Studio XDR and my 4K 144Hz LG monitor. If I connect the XDR first, it runs at 120Hz, but won't output anything to the LG. If I connect the LG first, it works like normal but the XDR is limited to 60Hz. It looks like the M5 Pro solves this problem.

You can find the supported resolutions and refresh rates for recent MBPs here:

For recent Mac Minis, the supported refresh rates are here:

Got a pair of XDR. Connected to MBP 14" M4 Pro. On first try plugging both displays in directly to the MBP, only one screen would turn on (5K 47-120Hz). Unplugging the working XDR would turn on the other XDR. After rebooting MBP, both turned on, but each only at 5K 47-60Hz. I had thought, per Apple's description, one XDR would be 120Hz and the other would be 60Hz when both used together. Guess not? I have a M5 Max MBP14 coming next week. I have a M4 Max 16" MBP also but not on me right now, but that's supposed to support dual 5K 120Hz.

The XDR is really bright and stunning compared to the MBP. iPhone pics make the XDRs look washed out, but it's just a brightness difference. Speakers sound louder, bass a little stronger I suppose. Fans are silent, same as ASD, but by feel seems to have a lot more airflow output at max brightness.
Thanks for the impressions and pictures.

This being like 5 pages and I haven't heard much about the blooming, IQ.

I was just looking for blooming tonight by watching some HDR black showcase videos on Youtube. All pics taken while video was actively playing, all screens at max brightness. There's some blooming, most noticeable with white text on black background like upper left corner where video title is displayed. It's also looks worse when viewing off angle from the top or sides, but straight on I think it looks really good, and substantially less compared to the MBP display.

XDR is bright and distinctive Color gamut is good. 120 hz refresh better than adaptive
Price is high and tends to lend itself towards professional usage ( editing , graphics creator etc)

Yes - I have the 12 core version.

I've also not had any crashes or issues with either display like others have which is weird.

Now iam testing my xdr, connnecting to macbook pro M4 Pro basic works fine, but afther connecting older sutdio display i have on xdr just 60 hz... even when lid is closed. Daisy chaining not working too ... 🙁

Yes, it is a little weird. It seems other people with the same hardware are having trouble getting 120 Hz from both displays. Anyway, I appreciate your feedback, thanks
