I was able to reserve my phone in about 15 seconds using the app. You can even confirm your reservation in the stores section under reservations.

If you click products you can pre order the 4, but mine keeps crashing also after adding my AT&T info. I'll try reserving one.

Not semantics at all. Pre-order means you are CHARGED and it can be picked up or shipped. Reservation means that you have the right to wait in line on launch day.

ash =o)

But it says "pre-order" on the Apple site and if you choose in-store pickup, you're not charged until you go to the store.

When i try preorder, i get this

The app crashes every time I try after putting in my AT&T info.

The app kept crashing on me as well and I had IOS 4 installed. I switched to my fiances phone still running 3.1.3 and downloaded the app. It ran flawlessly and was able to reserve in a matter of seconds.

I'd been trying with the Apple Store app earlier, but gave up when it kept crashing out. Just tried it again (bored, waiting for the website to dump me out) and it went through lickety split. No confirmation email as yet, but you can look at your reservations in the app, and it's there.

Dunno about pre-ordering for shipping. I wanted in-store pick-up in any case so I never tried the other.

The app does both.
But however the reservation is only on the main screen

Go though products then find the iphone there is a pre-order options there.

I have had no luck though makes it to the last screen and tells me it can not connect to server and i should make a reservation at an apple store.

Just reserved the 16GB. Said 199 in the app then 599 in the email. I'm sure it's just an oversight.

Is this different then going through the actual Apple store website? I thought on the store, you're actually buying it and can have it shipped to your house. The app looks like it's reserving it to a local Apple store.

is there some kind of confirmation or guarantee you get with a reservation?

Should be. My reservation says that my new iPhone will be available for pick up any time on the 24th. No qualifiers like "subject to availability", so I fully expect it to be there unless I get a "Dear John" letter from Apple in the meantime.

Yeah I think the app is just to reserve to pick it up in store. I didn't see any options to get it shipped to your house. I was looking for an in-store pickup though.

Anyone else step back and kinda find it silly.

We totally take for granted what our phones (iPhone) can do. We are buying the NEXT iPhone FROM an app on our pre-existing iPhone. Just thought it was kinda crazy in a neat way when you take a step back and look at it.

Suppose thats why it is revolutionary tech.

It errored most of the morning but went through for me about 10mins ago. I received my email and it also is showing the unsubsidized price of $699.00 for the 32GB. It will have to be corrected later because I know I am eligible for a subsidized phone.

I'm just wondering if I should stop at the mall on the way home and pay for it as well, maybe it'll speed up the pickup process on the 24th if i'm already paid for as well?

kina silly that they still showing I have to bring $599.00, but when i was doing the reservation says I'm eligible for $199.99. oh well. We'll see what happens :)

first couple times i tried, the app crashed just as it was "checking eligibility" but 4th/5th (lost count) times the charm apparently! tried about 40 times on apple's website, just happy to have mine reserved!

If I am not mistaken, this is how it reads for EVERYONE. In your conformation email it shows the outright price of the iPhone. I am sure that you will be just fine.
