This is a concern though....Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
i was able to book 1 with no problems at all. Now when i try to book a second reservation for my wife it says "Could not create your reservation at this time, please try again later."
Also, the confirmation email reserved price is wrong, says its $599?! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/424034/Capture3.PNG
My guess is that Apple has given up trying to check upgrade status for reservations because AT&T can't handle it, which is why confirmations are coming through showing full price.
I made a reservation for a 16gb iPhone 4 to be picked up on the 24th and the confirmation email said it will cost $599. I just called Apple and they said that is normal, the discount will be applied when you show up to pick up the phone.
Just wanted to share in case anyone else found this alarming.
first couple times i tried, the app crashed just as it was "checking eligibility" but 4th/5th (lost count) times the charm apparently! tried about 40 times on apple's website, just happy to have mine reserved!
Me too but I'm not going to cancel unless/until I have a $299 reserved for Thursday. I guess the lines will be slow and full of people with the same problem....I got a confirmation e-mail about 2 minutes later, but it shows the price as $699. I am pretty sure that is because they are bypassing AT&T's eligibility server.
Welp, just got my confirmation email and its showing $699, lol.
Me too. Have your wife download the app on her phone. If it is a family plan, have her use her phone number and social. My wife just did it succesfully.

Not semantics at all. Pre-order means you are CHARGED and it can be picked up or shipped. Reservation means that you have the right to wait in line on launch day.
ash =o)
