For those of you new to the game.....

TIMING
Games are divided into four 15-minute quarters, separated by a 12-minute break at halftime. There are also 2-minute breaks at the end of the first and third quarters as teams change ends of the field after every 15 minutes of play.
At the end of the first and third quarters, the team with the ball retains possession heading into the following quarter. That is not the case before halftime. The second half starts with a kickoff in the same way as the game began in the first quarter.

Each offensive team has 40 seconds from the end of a given play until they must snap of the ball for the start of the next play, otherwise they will be penalized.

The clock stops at the end of incomplete passing plays, when a player goes out of bounds, or when a penalty is called. The clock starts again when the ball is re-spotted by an official.

If a game is tied at the end of regulation, a 15-minute overtime period will be played. In the NFL, this is sudden death and the first team to score wins. Possession is determined before the period begins by a coin toss.

I’m a neutral observer with no allegiance to either team. I consider myself a knowledgeable football fan. I have to say I haven’t seen these two teams play too much this year except for the playoffs, so my comments are based on limited action. I don’t need to be told, “but that’s isn’t how he played all year”. I’m judging solely on the only game that matters, the Super Bowl. Here are my observations.

The Bus should have retied a year a go. If the hole isn’t large enough to fit a real bus through it, he can’t find it. He can’t even run over people like he once could.

Polamalu is good, but he is possibly the most overrated player in the NFL next to Vick. I expect to see a lot more from this guy because of all the hype I hear about him. So far, he hasn’t lived up to any of it.

Joey Porter should shut his mouth leading up to big games. The guy is coming up small.

Willie Parker has a lot of talent, but he has a long way to go to learn how to be a running back. Assuming he does, he is going to one heck of a player to watch.

Roethlisberger, even while having a so-so game, is a lot better than I though he was. While he isn’t producing great results, he really shows that he understand the QB position.

Hasselbeck is a good QB, but not nearly as good as I thought. Great QBs know how to take over the game. Hasselbeck doesn’t. He actually looks afraid.

Even though Alexander seems to be swarmed every time he gets the ball, he still is getting some yards on his own. I thought he was mostly a product of his line--boy was I wrong.

D. Jackson is narcoleptic. He fell asleep after the first quarter.

I thought Jerramy Stevens was an average-to-bad blocker who was a very good receiver. In reality he is a terrible blocker and an average-to-bad receiver.

Seattle’s defense is way better than anyone, including myself, gave them credit for.

Tom Rouen may only be a punter, but he really knows how to step it up in the big game. If it wasn’t for some of his kicks, this may have been a blowout.

The two Diet Pepsi ads have been about the worst ads (the worst being that awful Burger King Whopper ad).

If you are talking about the Whopper ad with the ladies dressed like lettuce and onions, etc. piling on top of each other in the very suggestive "have it your way", I completely agree. Ugh.

Edit: Ok, I now have a new least favorite: the godaddy.com ad.

HDTV + Keith Richards =
It's in widescreen here in the UK. But within the widescreen it's a 4:3 image. I have an old 4:3 TV in my bedroom, it runs in anamorphic 16:9, topped with 16:9 image running a 4:3 within it, make the screen half the size. Grr.

They just did the halftime show like that or are you watching the whole game that way?

I've been watching for the commercials. Nothing too memorable, I really liked the cat herding commercial a few years back.

Question to football fans, how do you feel about the commercials with the players touching and holding the trophy talking about?

To me, it takes away from the trophy's value. In the sports I enjoy playing and watching you play for the trophy, you play to be able to touch it, and hoist it.

Arrogant prick, celebrating before the final whistle. But I would expect that from NFL

I thought it was going to be a much closer, more exciting game. It kind of lost it's luster by half time. I'm disappointed.

Nothing like a Patriots "pull victory from the jaws of defeat" field goal at the last possible second.

The Steelers owe the officials a lot, without their bad calls the Seahawks would have won.

Ben never passed the threshold, so - 7 but they probbaly would have gotten the FG so +3 that would put the Steelers at 17

The touchdown they took from Seattle was absurd, along with other stupid calls. if anything it would have made for a overtime game, but more likely than not the seahawks would have won.

The officials made the Steelers the winners in this game unfortunately. really really bad game calls.

I don't understand all the hooplah surrounding this.

And dear god the Star Spangled Banner was crap.

Wow man, you just seem angry! I'm guessing you just don't know much about the game.

What's wrong with that? In football, there comes a time where it is impossible for the other team to win.
Exactly, it was 4th down and Hasselbeck threw an incomplete pass, meaning Pittsburgh gets the ball back with 3 seconds left. Do you honestly think Seattle was going to get a turnover on a quarterback kneel and score withing two seconds, then recover the onside kick and run it for a touchdown???

Glad to see Pitsburgh win it. Cowher deserves one after 14 years with the team, and it's good to see Bettis go out on top (and yes, he's going to retire, there's no more question).
