So I have to carry a dock around with me? How very simple and beautiful and apple like....![]()
It is not a question what kind of connector Apple will use, but what kind of plastic cable will be used? So far all are just really bad, they heat and break very easily.
LOL you do not even know anything yet and bitching for no reason. I bet if you would own company you would be a good lad.Ridiculously stupid move that has zero benefit for the consumer but makes another cash cow for Tim and his cronies.
I'm sure apple would love to sell 50 dollar adapters and all that juicy lightning licensing money.
If this leads to water resistant iPhone 7 with larger battery, I'm OK with this.
Lightning doesn't output analogue, the dock has a built in DAC..Lightning does output analog audio as well... Just look at the back of the current iPhone dock.

Just another reason to hope that they ditch the wire altogether and use Bluetooth instead.
The future is definitely wireless. I could see this as a first move toward completely removing ALL ports from, the iPhone. Once wireless charging is introduced there will be no need to have any holes in your phone.
I haven't been able to find a stripdown of the dock yet but the 30 pin adaptor uses a built in DAC to output analogue audio.Really? Interesting. Do you have a link to a tear down that shows it? I believe you, I just want to read more about it.
http://www.macworld.com/article/116...es-new-lightning-connector-means-for-you.htmlAstute readers may have noticed that the Lightning connector does not support analog audio-out, but the 30-pin adapters do. That’s because hidden away inside each 30-pin adapter is a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that converts the Lightning connector’s digital audio signal to an analog version. (The inclusion of a DAC explains at least part of the price of the adapters.)

Would likely be closer to $10-20. Otherwise I agree lol
just wait for the phone to charge...or are you so obsessed with music that you cant wait for 2 hours?Well If you want to listen to music and the phone needs charging, what else are you supposed to flippin' do?
Just wait until Phil Schiller adds his spin at the keynote.41% of voters have no idea how audio signals work.
The number of people I've read saying, "digital audio is better", and "3.5mm only offers SD sound whereas lightning will offer HD sound" really shows a massive level of ignorance from a huge number of people.
I can't believe there's even one person who thinks it's ok to lose the headphone jack.
Don't you ever want to play music in your car?
Or a friend's car?
Or at a party on any random stereo?
Or at a club?
Or with your own headphones?
You seriously think you're going to keep an adapter dangling out of your phone all the time?
I love my iPhone, iPad, Macs etc. But this would put me over the edge. It woild be a sad sad day. But I need a phone that can interface with the rest of the world. And I'm not going to carry around a dongle to do it.

Lightning supports charging and audio output simultaneously - check the dock. Or, use BT headphones to listen while charging, or play the audio through wireless speakers.iPhone 6s will be my last iPhone then.
How the **** will I be able to charge my god***** phone while listening to music then? Rosegold Tim is out of his mind.
Most people charge more than that every night already. List of things I charge every night:
iPad Pro
Apple Pencil
iPhone 6+
Apple Watch
15" Retina MacBook Pro
HP Calculator
Beats Studio Wireless
Cheap Bluetooth Earbuds
Mophie Battery Pack (usually just once a week)
Charging stuff every night is just a fact of life these days. This is also the reason I laughed when people said that a one day battery life on the Apple Warch would mean it's doomed... most people don't care and are already used to plugging everything else in every night...
Nope, the phone (if this rumour is true) will have the DAC added - just as it currently does for the 3.5mm port - this will finally allow quality line-level breakout cables for people using the phone (and hopefully in the future, the iPad) for music playback for gigs, clubs etc.Sorry but how would an adapter work? Does lightning port support analogue audio? As far as I know, it does not. So the adapter needs to have a DAC and a small amplifier inside, not a simple 3.5mm to lightning switch.
I rather replace the iPhone. Wireless headphones sound terrible, and I can barely grasp the paper-thin iPhone 6 as-is.
Your move, Tim.
