Where do you see that pricing?

Amazon was doing it for that. Now went up to £1,281. Must have been an offer.

Just to prove I wasn't seeing things.

The device alone was £200 cheaper earlier this week.

There is no selection for No I don't own one anymore but it was an awesome device. ha ha. That's the category I am in. Had 2 surface 3 models. loved them. worked great, did everything we needed them to do and just sold them because we wanted something different.

Accoridng to Zac Bowden from WinCentral (Podcast) today
  1. Surface Go 4 (for the 1st time with an ARM based CPU) is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2023, but could be pushed back. (this is the entry level budget Surface 2-1)
  2. Surface Pro 11 inch aka the "Surface Pro Mini" is in the works for 2024+
  3. Surface Laptop Studio 2 (aka "the pull the screen forward closer to you" Laptop) specs have been leaked
  4. the next Surface Laptop Go will likely still not have a backlit keyboard

I'm interested in either the Go 4 ARM or Pro "11inch/Mini" devices as my on the go or even in the pro's case as the main device, when docked/connected at home.

Last I heard (from Windows Weekly a while back), Go 4 was basically going to match Go 3 performance-wise. Even the Intel version. That's not great, even if my Go 3 is adequate for my use case. Though a battery life boost is sorely needed.

Surface Pro 11" is very tempting, though I hope they don't just stick it in a bezel-less Go chassis. It is a tablet, after all. I've experimented with using the Go docked, and with a bit more power and ssd space it could get me to finally give up on desktops.

I think we are in a similiar use case situation and unless Microsoft cancels another Surface "Mini" the 11inch Surface Pro could be what we are looking for, both performance and design wise.

Zac mentioned in the QA following the Podcast high resolution and refresh rate, doesn't know if Mini LED or otherwise tough.

My 2016 1st gen Surface went to my daughter, now with my son and still runs reasonably well. The star of the show is the Acer Switch 5, a Surface clone as it's seemingly yet to age despite heavy use. Even the Switch 5's battery shows little wear, yet it's been mostly used in the field off the mains supply

The 2016 Surface Book is struggling these days. It's running hot and the batteries capacity is diminished, equally no bad for it's age.

Q-6

That's literally the only reason I didn't buy the current Surface Laptop Go earlier this year.

Also, who names these things!
I saw "Go" and though to myself "My Go keyboard has a backlight..." Whoops, wrong product.

On another note, I'm currently at a conference and this little Go 3 is proving to be an ideal conference note taking (OneNote) machine. I can just eek out the whole day on battery too, which I'm okay with given how light this thing is.

I don't think an iPad would work as well, frankly.

How is everyone finding their Surface Pro laptops?

I recently got one and am finding it a little fussy in terms of the UI. The hardware is fantastic.

  • Well built, solid materials
  • Great design in terms of the Keyboard & Pen
  • In terms of UI, I love the Split screen option.
Other than that I find a Macbook / iPad so much more fluid and straightforward. Is it just me or does anyone else who usually uses a Mac find this?

(Please don't start the which is better out of Mac/Windows rubbish, Im not here to discuss that).

By "Split Screen" do you mean snapping? I love Windows' snapping features. Nobody else lets me drag the top of the window to the top of the screen and have the window automatically resize to the full height of the screen. And I use side by side all day, every day.

That's one area where Windows murders MacOS.

I use this on MacOS daily, as good as windows IMHO

I switched from Windows to Mac for most of my personal use last year. Still use Windows for work, and have a dual screen desktop setup at home for gaming / heavier stuff / WFH.

No, sorry, MacOS is not "as good as Windows" for multitasking. The window management still sucks even with Rectangles, quick app switching sucks, Finder absolutely sucks, the external monitor support sucks, the external drive support sucks (especially when they are not all formatted in Apple supported journaling formats), there's no built in clipboard history, and MS Office for Mac isn't on par with its Windows version. I am big on note taking and Onenote+MS Power Toys on Windows beat the ever living crap out of Apple Notes on Mac (and of course Onenote for Mac doesn't have the functionality).

But for everyday use without an external monitor, I still like my MBA. The hardware is very good, the battery life is great, the touchpad is great, the keyboard is great, it's integrated with my phone for calls and messages. Finding a comparable Windows laptop, while theoretically not impossible, is very difficult because most battery performance claims are - in my experience - greatly exaggerated, and the long-term reliability is very much hit or miss. My work Surface Pro was supposed to have "up to 16 hrs" battery, I am lucky if it lasts over 3 hrs with regular use (a couple Teams meetings, emails, docs). At least with Mac I know what I am getting.

Microsoft to hold ‘special event’ in New York City on September 21st
Microsoft has been rumored to be working on a Surface Go 4, Surface Laptop Studio 2, and Surface Laptop Go 3 for the fall. Windows Central recently reported that the updated Surface Laptop Studio 2 will ship with Intel’s latest processors, a more powerful GPU, and an improved selection of ports. Microsoft also reportedly postponed a Surface Go 4 with an Arm processor in favor of an Intel one instead. The Surface Go 3 is rumored to ship with Intel’s 12th Gen processors and an improved base-level configuration.

Sorry couldn't resist :)

I'm curious as to what MS does this go around, but given their prior habit of using prior generation chips, I'm not really in the market.

I'm looking forward to it. The surface laptop studio 2 could be a nice unit for me.... just hope it's not too horrible noisy with fans etc

Given that she's going back to school and she followed me back over to the Windows camp, my wife recently scored a new Surface Laptop Go 2 (8/128).

Aside from the lack of a backlit keyboard, she loves it. In helping her set it up, it reminded me a lot of my old 11" MBA with great build quality for something under $1K USD.

Will definitely be interesting to see what MS does with this going forward

Nice, I have to say I really like the Go (not that I own one). Having such a small tablet that runs windows is something can be very useful in the academic and working world

I get the feeling it's going to be an underwhelming
Sadly MS has a history of rolling out a great design, only to handicap it with underpowered old prior generation components.

I hope we get an amazing Surface Pro update ... I almost pulled the trigger last year and went for a "1 device" future :-D

there will be minimal updates, if at all for Surface products - except the Surface Laptop Studio 2.

Lots of things were cancelled, postponed to 2024 or/and awaiting the late 2024 Qualcom/Nuvia made "Oryon" ARM CPUs and the next Windows "12" that will release next fall.

I'm waiting for the Surface Mini Pro 11' (likely Fall 2024+) or the ARM based Surface Go 4 (Spring 2024 maybe)

Well, I bit the bullet after 10 years away from a Mac...

So it's been about 10 years since I jumped from Mac to Windows and the Surface line of products. The main reason being I wanted a desktop OS in a tablet form and could tell Apple was not going that way. I still want the desktop OS in a tablet form, so I am still rocking my Surface Laptop Studio which I love but since I came about $1,000 in gift cards to best buy, and just moved into a new house where I wanted to set up a space to have a more desktop atmosphere, so I bought a Mac Mini M2 and a Dell Monitor. I guess I'll be putting my foot in both sides of the pond from now on.
