Kept my 6s for two reasons:

-Home button is faster/quicker and still the best way use the device. Add more time to do something that takes 1 second is going backward not forward.

-Notch. That goddamn ugly notch interfering with the entire screen. The notch was the first thing I noticed before noticing the entire cell phone redesign. Get rid of it Apple.

Technically yes but in real world use its not. If you full screen a video without having the notch in the way the screen is smaller than the iPhone 8.

I used to own the 5.5” iPhone 6S+, 4.7” iPhone 7 and even the X. When I kept going up and down on screen size, it concerned me that I would not get used to the loss in screen real estate. I found the 4” SE adorably cute due to its size comparison to the rest of the lineup.

Then I went to the SE size and find the rest of the lineup comically large. My concerns were all put to rest and I do not regret the decision. This has to be my favourite iPhone purchase to date, I never tire of using it (I may have an unintentional addiction ;):)) and yes, the notch and UI ears are just a poor design choice. Shameful actually, for most tasks it blends with the dark background, however the moment you do something that reveals it, it’s like a rude awakening.

Yes, haven't upgraded because of The Notch

Were consumers asking for a thinner phone, shorter battery life, camera bump, no headphone jack, 3D Touch, FaceID, Animoji, etc. Short answer, “nope.”

However this is the unfortunate reality of Apples iPhone roadmap, hope they wake-up soon. The only reason this company is making billions due to it loyal fan base and it’s viewed as a fashion accessory and status symbol to many. I and a few likeminded prefer it for it security.

I don’t know what the generic consumer asked for. I asked for a solid upgrade and got it. Did I ask for oled? Nope. I’ll gladly take a thinner phone, camera bump, no headphone jack, 3dt and Animoji. Just give it to me with lcd.

This "was" just between Apple right ? With only 8% who wanted a larger screen, which other iphone would that be?

Add 1% to that 44% and count me in :)

Solid upgrade is subjective, a thinner phone at the expense of battery life. A dual camera with it corresponding bump compared to better image quality from a competitor who can do it with a single camera. No headphone jack at the expense of a smaller Taptic Engine or relocated placement internally to incorporate a universal, affordable and abundant connector. 3DTouch is a personal preference, I used it quite a bit and miss it, however others may disagree, the feature and function has just not been incorporate to its full potential and not many developers are concerned. Animoji is presently a proof of concept, I hope it expands to something more useful. MicroLED is a game changer, when Apple, when?

The survey matches my personal experience when I’ve discussed this with friends, family and colleagues.

Current iPhones still work great and the iPhone X is too expensive. That’s a very common response and possibly the reason they are so rare where I live.

Sure you did.. That's the great thing about the internet as there is no way to disprove your statement but I highly doubt its true.. yeah, I work for Nasa as a rocket scientist too... LOL

Why do you think that everyone would have same opinion as you? Different people, different choice/issues/opinions. It's not necessarily have to same as you.

"44 percent of respondents said they hadn't upgraded because their iPhone works fine, suggesting there were no standout features compelling them to purchase a new device"

Or suggesting just what they said "their iPhone works fine".

Even if there are "standout" features and the person might want those features, if their current phone is working just fine then they will wait. Some people are conservative with their money and not so impulsive.

You have read the recent articles about how the Apple Watch has sold more than all other smart watches combined? Or the fact that Apple Watch is the top selling watch in the world?

Watches in general are not a huge market anymore. I look around and probably 80% or more of the people around me do not wear a watch at all. The common answer to why a person does not wear a watch..."because I have a smartphone".

The Apple Watch is a BILLION dollar or more a year business for Apple.

You didn’t read my post at all, if you did you would understand my point and others about Apples sales.

Too friggin' expensive to justify on a 2 year contract alone. Especially here in the UK!

UK based mobile phone companies used to justify a low upfront cost for the higher end phones with 2 year contracts (if you didn't care not having the latest iPhone every year - it was normally 100-150 pounds, not bad). The iPhone X in it's 256GB form (why would you get 64GB) has a minimum £300 upfront cost with £60/month 2-year contract. My contract is up for my 6S next month and I'm thinking about waiting out for the iPhone X2 and getting it via Apple on finance deal plus a SIM-only deal on whoever can do 8GB data the cheapest.

My 6S isn't dying (it's had battery and front screen replacement already). Apple have screwed up their pricing in this current generation of phones.

i rather like the smaller form factor. i'd buy an iphone 4 if it'd be renewd to new standarts.
since that won't happen the SE is fine for me.
why does size matter so much? after all it's a phone that should fit in your pocket...

It’s nice to see a fellow Brit acknowledging the fact this phone is so expensive on our tariffs. I’ve currently got a 6S too and am eligible to upgrade in September and there’s no way i’ll consider an X at the current price. I always thought spending £600-700 on an iPhone was pushing the upper limit but £1k+ is a joke. A lot of people I’ve spoken to laugh when you ask them if they are getting the X as it’s price precedes it’s quality in terms of reputation.

People are generally keeping their phones longer and lets be honest there is very little difference in terms of use experience between models. You don’t need to spend a grand to get an iPhone and that is a mindset Apple have not been able to conquer here. Until they offer it at a lower price it will always be niche. If that was the intention then great, but I’m sure Apple would rather it sold as well as an iPhone 6 and became more mainstream. More appeal and more dollars in the bank.

I agree here pricing is mad and I’m mad for paying it but I have

I’m on EE who are always more expensive anyway but I’m on an annual upgrade and my Contract is £87.99 a month.

If you are fine paying that then great but that makes my eyes water reading that lol. You pay £57 more a month than I do for my current O2 contract with an iPhone 6S. An identical contract to my own with an X would cost me £65 a month plus around £450 upfront. I really don’t understand why it’s so expensive and what benefits it has anyway. It’s nice to have a nice phone but that’s crazy money and no doubt putting a lot of people off.

The upfront cost was £9.99 for mine

I just got tired of buying and selling each year and wanted LTE on my watch so moved to EE. I wouldn’t have upgraded from 7 plus to 8 plus

I wanted the new design/oled screen and its a noticeable improvement for what I wanted.

Even my iPad Pro on contract is £45 a month

With all due respect, it kinda doesn't make any sense being on an Apple forum and complaining about price. Their stuff is expensive and everyone here knows it. The X is their "latest and greatest" and therefore will be priced higher. You want it bad enough, you pay the price. If not, you've got alternatives.
Also, continually posting about it being too expensive isn't going to change anything.

Let’s be honest, individual expectations are subjective, obviously. This entire thread is about the value of an upgrade. Best about camera is subjective, ie Samsung camera has been proclaimed best, for years, yet color rendition is not as natural as iPhone. Is that best? To each their own.

Right, Apple smartly buried their iPhone sales numbers.

What? The OLED in the iPhone X is better than any LCD in any measure. True black and that contrast ratio is hard to put into word other than the feeling of grossness trying to read a book at night on an iPad after reading true white on black on an iPhone X.

With all due respect the higher price is a recent thing. We’ve always paid £600-£800 for the latest and greatest iPhones and that was always considered the premium. This new even higher tier has made a lot of people including myself fall out of favour with wanting the latest and greatest. There are alternatives yes and they are what people like me go for instead.

Your last comment is strange as this thread is discussing why a survey suggests people are not buying the iPhone X with price being a key opinion.

The thing about oled for me, is that I have sensistive eyes and oled gives me a headache and eye strain. My friend has an s7 and I played around with it extensively. It gave me a migrainey type feeling. People have reported eye strain and headaches with the iPhone X. That’s why I’m shy of oled panels at this point.

You’re more of an enthusiast than most people in here I’d say. I don’t use an iPad for productivity so it’s different or me. The way costs are going i’ll continue buying older devices but I suppose there is a key market for people like me emerging anyway.

Um no.
