I was happy with AT&T until they changed the data plan stuff...UGH. And 20 bones extra to tether......what business is it to them HOW we use our data? Makes no sense.

I do not believe this survey.

I just switched from an iPhone 3GS to a Droid X not because I dislike the iPhone but because I was SOOO SICK of AT&T and constant dropped calls and network unavailability. Verizon is amazing, by the way :). I do not believe this survey or I do not believe that much of the sample were truly iPhone users. I know four people who just left the iPhone because of the poor network availability both at home and in places we travel for work. Verizon and AT&T are like day and night where I live in a midwestern city. Also, when I travel to Chicago or the East Coast Verizon is amazingly better too.

All I care about: Verizon's 3G is much faster than ATT's Edge and almost as fast as their 3G (when you actually get a perfect connection to ATT which is rare). Verizon's 3G is available almost everywhere. Verizon's 3G is VERY robust and reliable. ATT's 3G is none of those things. But it is faster by a bit if you get the perfect connection in one of the few places that it exists.

You Verizon switchers who think it's all bubble gum and lollipops now, just wait until you have to deal with customer service. :)

We switched from Verizon to AT&T. There is a little difference but other than that, it was worth it. We get the iPhone and the best customer service I have experienced to date. :D

I don't get the fascination with carriers, specially Verizon. They cripple their phones, charge outrageous fees for everything and have terrible customer service.

What doesn't kill you....

Just a theory about why customers, against expectations, are satisfied with AT&T. It might just be the old "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" motto. Before becoming the carrier for the iPhone, AT&T could be as mediocre as all the other phone companies. All carried similar phones, had similar plans, etc. If you wanted someone's business, offer a cheaper plan, and you'd probably get them even if service was awful--because most people just wanted cheap phones and a cheap plan.

But the minute AT&T got the iPhone, they were mobbed by a high number of users (who were paying a lot for that phone and it's plan!) making demands--as well as Apple making demands. If they wanted to keep both, they had to step up their game.

Now I'm not saying that AT&T succeeded in living up to those demands. They were clearly swamped and nearly drowned during the first two years. But it looks like they may be catching up. Rather like someone who's out-of-shape being forced to exercise and, every year, being given heavier weights to use. You do start to build muscles. I'd argue that it's not the "halo" effect. I think AT&T has shaped up. Whatever faults it may still have, it's improved and might be edging into respectable in an effort to keep the customers it's gained in a market where touch phones are becoming common, and phone companies really have to compete on all levels in order to succeed.

Service is fine for me. No complaints. AT&T coverage is excellent in my area (Pittsburgh, PA).

Try going outside your location, AT&T sucks, there coverage is bad and 3G is fast if you can even get it, I have a work phone on Verizon and it's much, much better coverage. I even had a Verizon MiFi card, good coverage on that too and now I have the Sprint Overdrive GREAT, "AT&T most calls drop ever" :(:(

No. lol Defensive much, though? ;) But I guess it does make sense that Verizon doesn't have the iPhone but the Droid and Droid is outselling the iPhone, so the statistics just add up right. :)

http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/07/16/steve-jobs-confirms-android-outselling-iphone/

You can't fault me when even STEVE admits it. ;) lmao Now watch me get banned for pointing out what even Apple's CEO admits. Talk about tunnelvision, rose-coloured glasses and burying your head in the sand here! That's okay. I'll hold fanboys accountable. My pleasure.

First, DROID is not outselling iPhone. Android OS installed on 80 devices in in nearly every country in the world is outselling iPhone. But Android OS can be anything since it's open source. Hence, many people aren't buying them because of the Android OS, they do because of what every design, size, features, UI, price, etc. that the vendor and carrier decide.

Droid is Verizon only. They pay Star Wars for the name choose which handset maker is going to be the featured Droid brand model.

AT&T Ranked Last in Consumer Reports’ Best Cellphone Service Survey
http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/...sumer-reports-best-cell-phone-service-survey/

Oh? So things have turned around 180 since December, 2009?

Face it, it's two corrupt companies (AT&T and Apple) covering for each other's shorfalls. Just because they continue to make sweetheart deals ($$$$$) w/ one another at the expense of the consumer.

What makes either Apple or AT&T corrupt companies?

If you don't like Apple then don't buy their products. For decades people hated Apple's products and choose not to buy them. It's okay.

As a former Sprint and Verizon customer, I have to say that AT&T is the best mobile service for me. I travel a lot for work and Sprint rarely worked, Verizon was a little better, but I had a ton of drop calls and it didn't work well for me South of Boston (where I live). My iPhone is the mobile device that I've owned that actually works in my house. Also works were I have to travel to including Palo Alto, CA, NYC and TX. My Verizon phone never worked well in those areas.

How many former iPhone users out there have switched to an Android phone? All the people that I know who have, have since returned the phone. The general complaint is that Verizon is okay, but the Android OS is clunky and feels incomplete.

Couldn't agree more; it's horrible in Chicago Downtown.

Not a happy ATT user in Chicago-downtown! :(

Couldn't agree more; we live in downtown Chicago. I think AT&T's service varies greatly by market. My friends live in a suburb of Atlanta, and have no problem with AT&T. However, when they came to visit us in Chicago a few weeks ago, they experience repeated dropped calls and snail-like data speeds (repeatedly get bumped down to Edge, and still only getting 56kbps download speed) with their iPhones. They couldn't believe how bad the service was, and their eyes were suddenly opened as to why I've been so unhappy with AT&T here. While I'm happy for those of you that have good service, AT&T has grossly failed here in Chicago. There is no excuse for their incredibly poor service. They don't have enough towers to handle the bandwith required in downtown Chicago; and seem to be making no effort whatsoever to remedy this. My contract just expired, but rather than upgrading to the iPhone 4 like I typically would, I'm waiting to see if T-Mobile gets it this fall. If so, I'm dropping AT&T like a bad habit. The problem is this survey is national. I'd be curious to see what their satisfaction rate is by market.

I'm OK with AT&T

I pleased with AT&T. I have wireless internet on my desktop iMac and have gotten good service. I wish the 5.1 GB limit on usage were higher but band width is bandwidth and I an certain that it will eventually be lifted.:)

I have had AT&T since 2007 with the 2G. It started it out bad but now I wouldn't switch back to Verizon for anything. I absolutely love AT&T.

AT&T has been great for me. IDKY people from Verizon have to put down AT&T or vice versa. Pick the best cell carrier for your area and then pick the best phone on that carrier, be it AT&T, Verizon or whatever.

The problem is while the coverage and service thing is true, they are basically the same, just find the one who is best in your area, AT&T having the exclusive on the iPhone makes them much better than any other US carrier.

Since all the other current smartphones are 3rd class citizens next to the iPhone, going with any other carrier is just a painful experience and why we see so much resentment and vitriol here on Mac Rumors.

Fortunately for me, AT&T is best where I live, work and travel, so I am a big winner in the smart phone sweepstakes.

Personally I think I would rather deal with crappy service and have an iPhone than have adequate service and use a 3rd rate android handset, fortunately I don't have to make that choice.

Looks like AT&T has done something better than just ADS. Great job AT&T! You should get the slogan, "Raising The Bar." again since it was just Cingular! To us, they never let us down!

The customer service I have received was great and my Droid X that I am now using because the iPhone is locked to AT&T is certainly not crippled.

You would rather have your iPhone be an iPod Touch half of the time? My phone needs to be a phone first and cool second. Also, my Droid X is not a 3rd rate device and I say that as a satisfied owner of all 3 of the previous iPhones. My Droid X might be a little bit tougher to figure out than my iPhones were, but it is kind of nice to be able to do anything I feel like to my phone for a change. My new phone can do anything and more than my iPhones could. I can even make calls all of the time now!

The downside to the Internet

Alas, the AT&T brouhaha and the iPhone antenna is yet another example of the lack of critical reporting that has been lost through non professional blogers and anybody else with an opinion (including me) that post on the internet.

s'ok

I live in NYC and switched to AT&T (& iPhone 3G) from T-mob years ago because T-mob reception was non-existant in my my apartment. ATT is ok but not great both in NYC and suburban CT–tons of dropped calls and blank spaces. I really do think their technology is lagging behind the rest of the world's and they took a real slam on it with all the iPhones that suddenly bombarded the network. And I think Apple takes the fall for a lot of their shortcomings. Basically AT& T is pretty lousy in NYC. Also, I think their tethering charges and resultant new data charges are ridiculous.

I get the feeling Verizon would be better reception-wise but I refuse to switch to the combo of ridiculous ancient proprietary CDMA technology and not-there-yet proprietary "4G" mishmash that's (allegedly) on the horizon. It seems the rest of the world can get their act together on this but here in the US they're too busy fighting over bandwidth to innovate.

Used to have T-Mobile. It worked fine for years. Got an iPhone as a gift last year. Much more dropped calls and failed data on AT&T. It was horrible at SDCC on Friday. I'll leave AT&T as soon as the iPhone is available with another carrier. Preferably back to T-Mobile.

So far I've had 0 dropped calls, but then again I am living in Columbus Ohio, which has no real places where the call could be dropped, since my work involves going around the suburbs. No complaints whatsoever

Thats because most dont know how it feels to be living in a screwed up service area like New York and San Francisco Bay Area.

I couldn't even be on a con call without dropping several times. Eventually I had to look for a land line.
