Apple could make a Siri based iToilet and it would get a ton of attention. "I see you been eating lots of fiber, good boy" ....Siri

Meh to an iWatch right now, need to see more.

Any one else think that maybe, maybe this is a clever Apple marketing tool? I mean, maybe they did their research and found that no one really wants this device. Thus start circulating rumors to get people like Microsoft, Google, and Samsung to invest into developing one, have it come out and be another flop in their line? I sorta think that is what the Apple Branded TV is, a ploy to try and convince others to make something to compete with it, when they have no real intention of creating it themselves. Cause others to waste money and reputation.

Just a thought.

I know I have ZERO desire for this thing, I don't wear watches, and don't like them in general. Thus I can't see myself wearing it. But that's just me.

Again people said the same thing regarding the tablets or "slates". We saw a whole bunch in development from other rivals. Finally one came out from Apple and all those prior projects were dumped and the market started to follow Apple's lead. The same was the case with phones too.

Frankly I don't see a huge general market for watches, but there is a lot of potential for innovation in niche sectors. It could serve as your GPS/Sports device, tracking your cadence, heart rate, workout information in general etc. If I tell my watch I want to do 3 hours of activity a week, it can let me know I better be more active since I'm not meeting my goals. It could also be a medical monitor, tracking a whole bunch of data about you during the day and when you sleep. With Siri, you could also track your nutrition info/calarie intake. Just talking to your watch, Hey Siri, I just ate a serving of salmon, an orange, banana, and a salad and a chocolate bar. Then it lets me know if I've been overdoing my sugar intake, or if so far I'm rather low in a bunch of vitamins/nutrient, so it can recommend, hey why don't you have a x for your next snack/meal. Plus all the other features already mentioned by many people, like being able to serve as an ipod/phone/email/text client. A weather tracker.

I can't say I really see a need for such a device, but if someone puts together something interesting in an elegant and convenient to use package, I might re-evaluate.

I think an iWatch will be a hard sell.
I don't see what problems it will solve that are not already handled by the iPhone or iPod touch.

If there is a touch screen on it and the viewing area is the typical size of a watch, then there is no fine grained control of anything happening on that screen. All you will see is your fingers and your other hand blocking the screen. Text messaging on it is out!

So if I swipe to change songs or swipe to see the next notification, i'll be using two hands. Two hands instead of one that used to hold the iPhone with a bigger screen.

If all the iWatch does is save me from picking up my phone then its not going to fly. And :apple:, they profit from the hardware sale. So this thing is going to cost $299+ ?? I'd rather have an iPhone.

We see that they keep your Siri data for 2 years. If the iWatch has your health telemetry on it then its just another Big Data/Personal Data problem.

It's really going to have to be drawdropping to work. Can :apple: do that?

I can see the conversation on Siri on the iWatch:

Man: "Siri...why won't women talk to me?"

Siri: "Because you're wearing an iWatch"

Yeah - but your watch is probably crap and is partially made of plastic. Right? So clearly you'll need a unibody iWatch made by Apple. Another one sold!

I have a Casio that is made out of a special indestructible plasticky/rubbery type of material that is impervious to all kinds of harsh chemicals and nuclear substances. :D

So your hand may fall off, but your watch will survive. :D

I wear my watch on 24/7. I shower with it, sleep with it, work with it, etc. I have never taken it off in 5 years. I won't buy an iWatch unless I can charge it while I am wearing it. And it has to be waterproof and chemical resistant.

Of course it will sell, the only difference this time is that other companies won't let them get a head start.

Yes, Apple pretty much shows again they control what other companies what to make..

Yeah, the current attitude seems generally consistent with the "why would I want that" feeling many people had prior the iPad before its launch.
I don't know about that. At least in my case I've always liked the concept of a tablet but the grossly missed attempts by others had me cautious about Apple and their ability to pull off a decent table. Even after iPad one came out I only saw it as a proof of concept. Ipad really didn't even start to come in its own until iPad 3 arrived, which brought with it enough memory to realize some very nice apps.
And then of course that crowd went out to buy it at some point.
The problem is wearing a watch, especially a big fat gaudy watch, is looked down upon by many members of society.
Many, many people are very bad at knowing what they want before they experience it. They draw too much of their opinion of what they've seen in the past, and less on their imagination of what is possible.

Well this is very much true. Still I don't see people running out to by a iOS watch. unless it meets certain functional requirements. For example the silly little requirement for being water proof and submersible to a reasonable depth is a big consideration. lets face it if the watch can't handle a rain storm or an accident submersion into a sink it won't last long on the market.

I just don't see comparability to the acceptance of iPad to any possible acceptance of a watch from Apple. There are just to many factors to consider.

So the battery dies... and you just have an i#%*$@(iCrap), and not even a watch.

This iWatch will not even come close to the demand & market opportunity that the iPad ever had... report is bogussssssssss.

Says the guy who was two iMacs, MacBook Air, Alu Uni MacBook, iPhone 5, iPad 2, BlackBook, and eventually....iWatch?

Waterproof and low-maintenance. Same here. I never take them off except when I have to switch to my dress watch which is probably twice a year or to change batteries every few years. And even my dress watch should be able to survive a daily shower. I'm just lazy that way.

That's fair enough... but "nuclear substances"? If you got those anywhere near your wrist, I'd think the condition of your watch would be the least of your concerns.

How will apple and others make this watch work for both men and women without making it too small? There is no way women will wear a big honkin watch and no way most men would want a tiny one. Will be interesting to see and I will purchase one immediately if its not too small.

Women's do wear a huge bracelets! Far to big for their thin wrists. Now you don't have to look at this supposed to be i Watch as an ordinary watch. In fact, it will probably have nothing to do with the watch, except from being worn on the wrist.

Obviously I was joking about the nuclear stuff, but it would be important to me that it was waterproof and shock resistant. I'd look at this as an everyday watch, not a dress watch so those features would be important. The band material would also be important to me. I'd like something comfortable to wear constantly. That would probably leave our metal for me. I'd be looking for it to be a sport watch, but who knows? And I certainly would not rule it out without seeing it.

I may not have been excited about the prospects of the iPad, but at least I was eagerly anticipating the announcement.

The iWatch? Not so much. I haven't worn a watch on a regular basis in more than a decade, so it is hard for me to get interested in wearing one now. Will that change with the iWatch? I have no idea.

Seriously that's the problem with all the hype about the iWatch. There's a lot of 'rumors', which are mostly lists of pie in the sky wishes and dreams, but no actual specs. I can't say I'm interested either, right now. I might get one if/when it comes out depending on what it does. Until we know what it does, assuming if it in fact ever comes to be, surveys like this are less than useless. Ask a hundred people if they would like a new car that does "everything they want and costs what they consider to be a low price" and most people will say yes to that too.

Without specs it's meaningless.

And just like the iPad most users won't know what they will use an iWatch for at first. Remember how they had trouble explaining what the iPad was used for, why can't you just use a laptop? Now people can't live without them.

That is a very good point. The other iPhone and iPad are unisexual. But watches? They have men's and women's displays.

If it is big they just cut out half the potential market.

I wear a nano watch occasionally.

Would probably buy the iwatch if I can read texts/emails maybe even play my music without me having to touch my phone, seems like a cool idea.
Price will play a role in this too.. 150-200$ seems reasonable (even with the apple brand). Something in the 250-350 range may be too expensive to justify the purchase

Yes but they didn't have a desktop computer in their pocket. I already have a phone in my pocket.

I wanted the ipad before it was released and I bought it the moment they had one in stock. I wanted the iphone the moment it was released and bought right after it dropped to $299. I wanted the macbook air ever since it was released and finally bought one after they switched to sandy bridge. This iwatch thing doesn't sound interesting at all. Not even a little bit.

And here, you won't have to pull it out if your pocket. A text comes, and BAM, the information is right there for you. That's even quicker, more natural, and less obtrusive than using a mobile phone. Why are you so against it? Do you want mobile phones for the rest of eternity?

Think of how natural it is to check the time with a watch. Wouldn't you want it to be this easy to see notifications, weather, navigation, etc. ?

you mean "shut up and take my money" :D

while i do want to see what this said "iWatch" will be, i don't know if i would be interested in buying it - unless it has some really cool gadget / feature - like some sort of siri, or something similar to google glasses, but without the glasses of course (and it's privacy issues).

that's because i just can't think of anything for them to put in a watch. Facebook is probably better on a smartphone, for messages and emails you'd like a screen size that you can actually use for typing, and for just checking the item you have your 'old fashioned' watch.

maybe they intend for it to be some kind of remote for the apple tv / macs integrated into a watch - something like the watch that had an infra-red eye in it back in the 90', was clumsy like an elephant trying to dance ballet, and just as big and awkward
