Wirelessly posted

I've had mine for one week now and it still has the awful smell and even makes my hands smell after being handled. Do any of you have a new canvas case that is completely odorless now? I'm beginning to think about throwing it in a washing machine and cutting my losses if it comes out ruined.

For me the smell went after a few days. I was worried it never would but it eventually did. It was also a slow process – so be patient..

In my case, it is the velcro which is a concern to me. The magnet works for me after it was replaced and the smell went away.

Tried the suggestion of using a hard card to scrape the felt on the back of the polycarbonate but the trick seems less effective after a day or two.

Now I am thinking of emailing them again but the problem is I found all three of them (my current one, my wife's one and my previous defective one) have the same degree of velcro stickiness. So I wonder if it is worth the effort as it may have the same results.

Update: Actually I find only the velcro of my case has lost the stickiness to the point where it would hold the cover for any brief moment at all. So maybe only one that needs to replaced..

How many of you who has Canvas for iPad 2 or iPad 3 have the velcro problems?

Thanks..

Update2Emailed SwitchEasy and their great customer service is great!

what's the material used for the exterior of the Switcheasy Canvas?
it looks like Nylon in pics

I've owned the canvas for a few weeks now and it has a big problem. The inside felt begins to wear down to point it no longer stands up in all but almost vertical positions :( I'm going to have to send it back for a refund. I'm looking at replacing with the speck fitfolio.

I am also returning my canvas case. I really wanted it to work out, but it just isn't happening for me.

For the same reason? What are you gonna get instead?

For the same exact reason. I can't stand trying to use it in a particular position then touching it and it slides all the way down. I haven't decided what I am going to get yet. I've been looking at some Macally cases and the Speck FitFolio.

It's coated canvas, similar to those used by InCase for their laptop sleeves in the Canvas Collection but the texture of the SwitchEasy one is a bit rougher.

Really? You think so?

To me it feels very much like a textured vinyl. With maybe the look and feel of a coated canvas – but I don't feel the grain/grit/weight and texture of canvas under the vinyl.

I could totally be wrong though. Did you open it up or know for a fact it is a coated canvas or just have a sense that it is..?

I have been using the Charcoal SwitchEasy Canvas for weeks now (went through 2 replacements and so far so good)

When you say textured vinyl, I wouldn't say it is not correct because it is not the the usual canvas material normally encountered in bags but it depends on what you are comparing to.

I have been referring to the coated canvas material found in the InCase Macbook sleeve that I saw in my local Apple Store not so recently..

I find it the SwitchEasy one similar to the coated canvas used by InCase but it feels thinner and has more texture to the touch.

Edit: Picture attached - the brown one is for another iPad in my family

I feel like saying the case is made with canvas is misleading – as I don't think there's any canvas used in the construction of the exterior material. A backpack or bag that has "coated canvas" is made from a heavy duty cotton canvas coated in weather resistant vinyl. I definitely don't think this is the case with this case. I believe 100% of the material used on the exterior is vinyl. It is much closer in consistency and strength to a heavy duty vinyl picnic tablecloth that you might see also see at a diner or restaurant rather than actual cotton canvas coated with anything. I don't say this as a slight or dig against the case but I feel as though if somebody put me under the impression it was an actual coated canvas material I would be disappointed when I actually got the case as its a 100% vinyl material textured to feel like canvas.

I believe the closest approximation to the material used in the SwichEasy canvas cover case is something like this:

Just got mine. Not really a fan. Had the one for the "2" and really liked it except for the cracking, breaking edges. The new one smells, flexes too much, no clasp ( i liked it). The little stoppees are already sliding on the inside cover. Bummer.

I've just received the black one.. and it has a real strong 'new car/new case' smell :( it also feels a little 'sticky', like slightly wet paint. Anyone else had that? Does it pass? thnx

Just got mine today. And the smell was the 1st thing I noticed but apparently it's from the waterproofing.

Thought I'd thrown in my 2 cents. I just received the new version in Military Green over the weekend. I had the previous version and loved it but did have one of the corners crack (don't know how as I never removed my iPad 2 once I put it in the case). Switcheasy replaced it without any hassles but my second case wouldn't stand up in the higher positions and kept sliding down. Also, the clasp on my original case was great but would stick on the replacement. The velcro was also an issue in both cases. After a few uses, it just never worked.

I decided to order the new version and I did notice the smell is very strong. I'm having an issue with magnets also. It does turn the case on/off but not consistently. When I carry the case, I'm having the same issue as was posted on Youtube. It clicks off constantly and is very annoying.

That being said here is what I do like: no fingerprints, nice material, thinner than the previous version, and the ability to choose different positions in landscape mode. So far, mine hasn't slipped but I guess that's coming.

Anyone tried the Nude for the new iPad?

I had the cover buddy which is the same thing but smart cover compatible.

It is a little thick but lightweight. It will protect only once. If u do drop it on a corner will crack but no damage to the device...on carpet over cement floor. It will also crack and break if u take it on and off often.

The clear does scratch, the colors show fingerprints. The corners will show wear after a while cuz the rubberized coating can wear off.

I liked it for a while. But I don't use cases in the house so mine broke after a month.

I love my Canvas but i"m just finding it too heavy/bulky... it seems to double hte thickness & weight of the iPad. Is the newer version any lighter than the second? I've looked at the Exec & Pelle but neither seem to offer the sturdy typing/viewing angles of the Canvas.

Can anyone think of a thinner case that can replicate the typing angle for the Canvas (6th pic)? I love Switcheasy because of all the colour choices but since my iPad goes in my handbag every day... the weight is beginning to be annoying and I find myself longing for the light iPads others get to enjoy!

Just a update, I'v had three CoveryBuddys.

The first one was fine (sold with old iPad)... the other two not so much. The 2nd coverbuddy came with cracks in the corner, so I got a replacement. The replacement was fine for maybe a month or two before it too started developing cracks around the corners. I never took the case off so not sure why it happened.

It's not a huge deal since I just need the case to protect the back, but still a bit disappointing.
