I think that's a little unfair. Sometimes you have to try something before you know if you will like it. This poster is not buying them just to re-sell.

I also spent a lot of time trying to decide what I wanted and then got the SS 38 BSB - then I decided I wanted a different color band for my vacation trip, ordered a pink and returned it (looked great in photo, did not look good on me), then ordered a white sport band and love it. Didn't think white would look good on me but after trying it i liked it.

That's why Apple's return policy is great and appreciated by many of us who really want to find something we will be happy with.

Old news. You're behind the times. Please continue reading the rest of the thread.

I have the space grey sport, I would have went a step up to the stainless steel, however I thought it was too pricey for a first generation product.

See I thought this too but if I'm already spending $400+ on a watch I need to worry about scratching, I might as well pony up the extra coin for the better material.

Happy I'm back with the SS - it arrived in just a week

Ever since I decided to take the plunge on an Apple Watch, i've been on the fence about this. I really like the 42mm ss bsb. After some thinking, I couldn't justify the extra $200 on a gen 1 device and on a watch that is functionally the same. So I ordered the sport space grey (ordered on 6/13, still processing). I justified to myself buying a screen protector and a case for the sport in addition to apple care would be the best way to go. But after reading this thread, my buyers remorse is kicking in full force!!!! lol. The SS just looks so much nicer. Now I'm not sure what to do. Figure i'll try out the sports and go from there....(unless I can find a SS in-store before I receive my space grey lol).

I have to concur with almost everyone here. After having had the SG compared to the SS, I definitely can feel the difference. It feels nicer to me, I think it will last longer regardless of the scratches on the chrome I may get later because I'm the mother of clumsy, but also it feels more like a watch for many other reasons you've all pointed out.
Yes. For a first generation watch is only natural that you want to get the lesser value model because of price factor and being an early adopter has its hiccups. BUT. If you're going to buy an Apple Watch, I know not everyone can afford the SS Model, you can always save a little in a couple of months and get it or just wait for the second gen device. That way you get the best of both worlds; a good watch that will eventually last more than the Sport because of material (as an what is made of) differences and the newer devices jumping the glitches a first gen might have.

Having said that, it's everyone's choice what they do with their device. I'm not in one bit regretting my decision of returning the space gray to get the Stainless Steel model. If anything I'm regretting not being able to buy the Link bracelet as well because to be honest as I said before, I'm trying to save up for the next generation so that I can give this one to my son and comes next year I'll buy the new model IF in fact Apple will release a flagship watch then contrary to what I've heard that they might wait a few years in between Apple Watch releases.

Here is my watch and I'm one happy Jmona.
After having both there is absolutely no way I'll get back to a Sports Apple Watch.

Glad you are happy with your choice. It looks great on you.
Some of us don't want to wear sliver colored watches/jewelry. When/if they offer black SS with a sports band, I'll be all over it because the $200 isn't a big deal. I just don't want to pay >$500 more for that black SS band.

I think the SS stands out more. When I want my Spirt no one seems to notice it but if I wear my SS, people seem to notice and I have been asked several times if it's an apple watch

I agree with most posters here - I have the SGS and the SS - in that the SS if definitely the premium model in looks and feel - it does seem more like jewellery and is the model to turn heads. The SGS is almost too plain - it just looks like, well, a black sports watch!

But..... its the SGS I'm keeping and returning the SS this time round for more utilitarian reasons. I want to wear the watch casually and during my outdoor activities, whether climbing, kayaking, running, as well as at the office. The weight makes a difference - you notice the SS more when running and the extra grams mean it sometimes would slip down the wrist and interrupt HR measurement, whereas you hardy notice the SGS. I know the SS screen is supposedly tougher but I'd worry more about scratching/damaging the SS than I would the SGS and it just doesn't feel right wearing a bling watch when active.

So while I agree on the merits of the SS, at this juncture the SGS suits me and my use-case better.
Each to their own, it's great we have such a choice!

I too thought that the Sports Watch would be better for me, specially living in CO where I'm super active, either backpacking while writing my book, hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, hill and rock climbing, camping, you name it; I freaked out when I didn't even know when my watch fell off my wrist while hiking the Manitou Incline going up Pikes Peak and behind the mountain through Gold Camp Rd just a couple of weeks ago.
Thankfully nothing happened to it. It was as if it had landed in a cloud, but when you can hardly feel if it falls off your wrist, I couldn't take that risk anymore. I feel much better with the weight on my wrist.

There again, everyone is different but I'm a very clumsy woman, idk if its an effect from the chemotherapy I've been for the last 3 years, but I rather get a more sturdy watch if I'm going to put the device through hell. Knowing myself anyways.
IMHO it's totally worth making the exchange and I don't regret it one bit. I'm giving a Sports Watch to my son instead and if I feel I need to switch with him for a day's wear I know I'll have a back up and my 8 year old wont mind sharing. ️ I do have to acknowledge that this is the very first time that I return anything to Apple in an almost 33 years of being a Fanboi as my parents; so this action I made about returning my SGS wont tar my reputation with the company to flag my account. I took this photos after the watch fell off my wrist. Not one scratch but it was definitely freaky to realize it wasn't on my wrist.
(And I must note I'm only wearing it on my right with a reverted Crown because I'm a leftie and I had chemo on my left wrist the day before.)

So I gave the space gray sport a shot after owning the SS BSB for a few weeks. Sold the SS watch because something kept telling me the space gray looked better. I was wrong. Again, this is my user experience and users will vary of course.

The SG looks alright, but you can really tell the difference between the sport and the SS. The SS just screams quality compared to the sport. The SS actually feels like a piece of jewelry compared to the sport. I also didn't wanna keep worrying about scratching the watch face of the sport. In the end, if I'm already spending $400+ I feel the an extra $200 jump is worth it.

Just picked up a classic buckle (which is extremely comfy) at my local apple store and now can't wait until my SS WSB arrives.

Gave both models a ride, but the clear winner in long term usage is def the SS for me. What about you guys and gals?

The space gray does look good with these bands though :D

Thank you so much for this post. My SS arrives today, I sold my SG and was regretted it after. Now I feel better about upgrading to the SS.

I received my SS yesterday after returning my Sport. I'll admit it's a little hard on the budget but to me it seems like a nice improvement. No regrets here (yet).

nice pics, this is clear to me the SS is not worth 300 CND more and the SGS. I've had both and to me the SS was not much nicer. Lets be real, the apple watch is not that nice looking. It's just a black screen.

kind of an off the wall question but for those of you who have ordered the SS in 42mm....what band did you buy it with? I ordered my 42mm SS black sport band watch yesterday and was just wondering what the turn around time is since I've noticed that shipping times have picked up dramatically since launch.

I first ordered a sport then after seeing it in person at an Apple Store next to the stainless steel I realized the sport looked like a toy/gadget while the SS, especially with Milanese loop or leather band, looked like a timepiece

The watch is something you wear daily, so why not just spend the extra money to get something with better materials and looks much better?

Well i posted that comment immediately after the comment it applies to, so why it showed up so much later in the thread is unclear. However, the last time I checked there is no "rule" or time limit for replying to a comment in a thread.

I had the 38mm silver sport with blue band and sold that. On the 15th, I ordered a 38mm SS BSB and it came today at 2:45 PM (should have done a hold for pick-up). This morning I noticed that my local store had them in stock. I had debated on exchanging for the classic buckle, but decided to trade up to the 42mm SS BCB.

Because what looks better to you doesn't look better to everyone. I don't like the color of silver SS enough to wear it everyday but that is my taste. I think it is a bit juvenile to insult the looks of something just because you don't like it.

Must you be in the defensive? You're all forgetting one thing here. Everyone has different tastes. What doesn't look appealing to you its appealing to others and backwards. Let's not insult each other's tastes. After all, these are apple products we are all getting and the only difference between these models is the material they're made with. They all have the same function. Let's not diminish what we all like. It's a darn apple product and we are the few privileged able to afford them regardless of whatever model we go with.
We are all the privileged ones. The fact that we get to buy one of these when many out there can't even afford it, it's enough for all of us to be happy and proud with whatever we choose.
I loved the space gray but it wasn't for me for many reasons. But just because it didn't work out for me doesn't mean it won't for you. Everyone has a different view, opinions and tastes. So please let's not get off track from the subject of this thread, respectfully.

That is exactly what I said. Personally, I don't care what others think but it is insulting when people say that the sports watch looks cheap or the SS looks gaudy.

It is great that apple has a good return policy and there are so many people anxious to buy used watches. Makes a change of mind less painful.

Correct, there is no rule or time limit. But it does help to follow the general conversation flow. No biggie. Have a good one.

I agree that insults are juvenile but I fail to see the 'insult' in what Aluminum213 wrote. Would it appease you more if she/he applied the caveat of 'in her/his humble opinion?

If I think the Sport looks like a toy or looks cheap then that is my opinion and is not meant to be anything other, the same applies if I state that the SS looks gaudy. I can understand if the poster said a person who wears a Sport looks cheap or if a people who wears a SS is gaudy, THATS insulting.

I really wanted the SS model but what made me go from the Sport model was that during the VERGE review, i saw scuffs on the stainless steel in the same way I used to see on my Movado. Yes the Sapphire crystal I wanted to bad but i didn't want to scuffs from the metal.

Based on that and the price, I thought it was wise to test the product as a sports model first and then whenever Apple decides to update their watch- go for the homerun!
