Switching from MacBook Pro to MacBook Air

Hi,

Has anyone successfully switched to MBA from MBP? How was the experience? Did the 60Hz display bother you? I currently use an MBP M3 Max. It is a beast of a machine, but it is heavy, the battery has degraded a little, and it has some cosmetic damage. Also, in the long run, upgrading MacBook Pros will be too costly. So, I was considering trying out the MacBook Air M5, 15-inch. But I am not too sure about the display. I checked it out at the Apple Store in my city, and it didn't look bad, but I don't know how it will be in my day-to-day usage.

My usage: I use Safari with 25 tabs open, Adobe Acrobat with 10/12 PDFs open, Preview with a few PDFs open, along with a few apps running at the same time, such as Zoom or FaceTime, WhatsApp, Word, and as mentioned, Safari and Adobe, etc. Sometimes I edit videos on Final Cut Pro but not regularly or intensely.

I support your decision. I bought the Pros when they used Intel, but Apple Silicon took away the Pro advantage for me. Unless you need the ports or the all-out performance, the Air is fantastic. It’s thinner and lighter. I don’t think you’ll even notice that the display is different.

That's the crux of it now. The Air is no longer a compromised machine in terms of having something that's smaller, lighter but also decent performance with some good available upgrades.

I prefer typing on my Air and it feels lighter than it is due to its form factor so I do tend to use it more on the move than my MBP unless I absolutely need the power of the Pro for something.

The screen is good, but you will notice the difference next to a Pro or if you're swapping between the two. Give it a couple of weeks and you'll just take it to be the norm.

Lol. I am still 50/50 tbh... Love both machines, both have their advantages...
