T-Mobile and Sprint Offering Free iPhone SE With Trade-In

Hey can you let me know the details of the deal please? What did you pay up front (taxes, fees, etc). The website shows the promotion but when you try and actually do it it only offers $40 for the iPhone 7. If I can really get it for free I don't wanna miss this.
Sure thing. I'm in Erie County New York outside of Buffalo so the tax was 8.75%. That was $36.75. There was also a $20.00 Upgrade Fee. My total up front was $56.75. I'm getting $200.00 for the 6S. So I'm paying the $399.00 over 24 months and will be getting the $200.00 credit over 24 months.

If it's a free upgrade and you're already on T-Mobile, it's a no-brainer. Especially with the iPhone 7 reliability issues.

I myself am wondering if I should upgrade my spare iPhone 6 that I keep in case my daily driver (an 8+ bought at launch) gets busted. I was planning on upgrading to an iPhone 12 later this year, though, so I might instead get the free trade-in by trading in my 8+, keep the SE from here to September/October, and then buy a 12, and keeping the SE as my emergency spare.
I traded in my spare 7. I now have a backup with a new battery, faster processor, etc. If T Mob offers another tradein offer in a few years it's more likely to be included.

You should ask them to waive the fee. T Mob, if the store won't, often will give you a $20 credit.

Yes, definitely make sure to order through the T-mobile app or online to avoid a $20 fee for in-person or over the phone ordering.

Went ahead and traded in my iPhone 7. The deal is not very streamlined and I had to chat with a T-mobile rep to ensure I was actually going to be receiving $400 back of the next 24 months. But within a week or so I should have a brand new iPhone! Whoop whoop!

Definitely a win-win for the consumer and T-mobile. We get a ”free” iPhone and they lock in our loyalty for 2 years. I bet T-mobile is mostly targeting Sprint customers who may be considering a change.

It’s not a good deal at all. If you want T-Mobile you can pay full price for the SE, grab one of their $15 or $25 prepaid plans, and you’ll be way ahead over this trade-in deal. Plus then you can switch carriers whenever you want.

I also went ahead with the deal online, while chatting with a T-mobile representative. Although she said I would receive the credits, I don't see any written confirmation anywhere. I signed that I will pay $399 over 24 months, but it doesn't say anywhere that I will actually receive the credits. We will see. Before actually getting the phone, I want to confirm 100% I will really get the credits.

It was a good deal for me. Free phone and I use the T-Mobile Veterans plan so I have zero intentions of leaving anytime soon.

I was concerned about this as well. I have had great experiences with T-Mobile customer support in the past, so I am assuming if something went wrong, they would fix it. I also have the text conversation where the rep said to just purchase it and look for the credits in one to two billing cycles.

I am happy with the deal, as well. As for being stuck to them for the duration of the deal - I've only had good experiences with T-Mobile. I'm on th 55+ plan and I haven't found another carrier than can touch it. $70 for 2 lines, unlimited data, no charge for data in Canada (I'm 20 minutes from the border and travel to Toronto a few times a year). If I need to contact them I use Twitter and they respond within 20 minutes. The only thing Verizon has over them is coverage, but I'd say I get 95% of the coverage I had with Verizon. So, all of this made the deal even sweeter.

Rather sad to see so many comments that do not understand this promo.

It clearly says you will get monthly credits for 24 months.

Why worry about getting it unlocked before then? No service. No credits.

Pay it off? Why?

Can I give them two NOT ELIGIBLE phones instead? Read the terms folks.

(Assuming you are okay staying with this company, it is a decent deal and removes all hassles of selling on your own)

One reason to pay it off is to decrease one's total credit utilization ratio if one is trying to increase a credit score.

Trying to use the app and the website this morning to upgrade three 6ss, but can't get past the payment page. Click to accept the payment and nothing happens. I guess I'll try again later in the day.

I will say that while I'm overall happy with T-Mobile and have been a customer for quite a while now, their promos tend to be difficult to navigate and kind of wonky. The promo I used to get the 6s was "free phone" deal for coming over from another carrier. I had to call about 4 times and have an unpleasant conversation with someone to finally get them to activate the credits.

Since then, the new customer service team setup they use has been excellent. I use the app to communicate with them via chat and it's been very helpful and convenient. I expect if I have any issues getting this credit, I can reach out to them.

My only concern is that the language around the condition of the LCD screen is very loose. Two of the three have small cracks/scratches but none in the area of the display. The description in the trade in guidelines actually makes it sound like this is fine. These are all going to some down-market reseller for parting out anyway so it shouldn't matter.

Doesn’t show anywhere on sprint site. It said I give them my phone and I get to lease the SE for 18 months. Why would anyone do that?

So, now I chatted with T-mobile (it turns out you have to install the app to do that, you cannot do it through the web). I took several screenshots. He guaranteed me that I will get the credits. I guess that's as close to a written agreement as it gets.

But I don't feel quite comfortable. You sign their EIP agreement with several pages of fine print. In return they sign nothing about the credits - just, trust us! My worry is that I get the phone, return my iPhone 7, and then they say: because of this and this fine print you cannot get the credits, but you're stuck paying $399. Life has taught me that without a contract and without reading the fine print, you can easily get screwed.

You have a right to a copy of the EIP Agreement. Usually it's available under your my.t-mobile account. I just checked my own account and all of my account receipts and documents are there. If it's not there, you can chat with a rep to ask when it will be available. Here's the path to get to it (yours may be slightly different than mine): Bill > Equipment installment plans > Documents & Receipts > Account History. Click Account Activities. Set the filters to Documents and choose a timeframe. Find the agreement and click Download PDF.

Also under your account, you'll be able to track your EIP payments and balance, and it will also show on your monthly bill. I imagine it takes a few days after they receive your trade-in for everything to be available in your account.

Sure, I have the EIP on t-mobile. But the EIP agreement is one sided: it tells you you have to PAY $399. There is no document that says you will GET $399. That’s the issue. I have agreed in writing to pay T-mobile $399, they have not agreed in writing to pay me $399.

Ah, I understand better now. Thanks.

Anyone who has an iPhone iPhone 8 or any other previous model should see the SE 2020 iPhone as a must have upgrade.

There's more to future proofing the iPhone SE 2020 edition than just future ios updates. You also get Dual Sim(esim), Gigabit Class LTE,Wifi 6, A13 CHIP, Express Transit with Power Reserve, 3GB of Ram, all lacking in the iPhone 8.

The rear camera is different and improved on the SE 2020 edition vs iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone SE both have a single 12MP, camera with 1.8 aperture along with 5x digital zoom. The iPhone SE 2020 edition is now able to do Portrait Mode (limited to people), Portrait Lighting, Smart HDR, and QuickTake video, all of which are not available on the iPhone 8. Also the iPhone SE 2020 edition front camera can now take portrait videos with the front camera (couldn't do that on iPhone 8).

The SE has Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 8 is powered by the A11 Bionic chip.
The iPhone 8 has 2GB of RAM. Now, the SE 2020 edition iPhone has 3GB of RAM.

Both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone SE 2020 edition are IP67 rated for water and dust resistance which allows them to go into water up to 1 and a half meters for up to 30 minutes. Both the iPhone 8 and the new iPhone SE 2020 edition can do wireless charging. They also both have the same stereo speakers, Apple Pay via NFC, and Bluetooth 5. The SE 2020 edition iPhone has the new Wifi 6 standard 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac/ax. Whereas, the iPhone 8 has the old wifi 5 standard 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac.

Info on wifi 6 and why its awesome https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/21/18232026/wi-fi-6-speed-explained-router-wifi-how-does-work

Gigabit-class LTE:was first included/introduced on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Also included on 11,11 Pro, 11 Pro MAX, and now on the iPhone SE 2020 edition

The iPhone 8,iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X got the LTE Advanced modem which supports theoretical speeds up to 600Mbps
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus got the LTE Advanced modem which supports theoretical speeds up to 450 Mbps
The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, got LTE Advanced modem that supports theoretical speeds up to 300 Mbps
The iPhone 6/6 Plus got LTE-Advanced that supports theoretical speeds up to 150 Mbps

Dual SIM (eSIM): was first included/introduced on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Also included on 11,11 Pro, 11 Pro MAX, and now included in the iPhone SE 2020 edition

The A13 chip and Wi‑Fi 6 802.11ax, are 2 new features first introduced/included on the iPhone 11,11 Pro, and 11 Pro MAX and now on the new iPhone SE 2020 edition.

FYI: iPhone X, iPhone 8 and previous generation iPhones do NOT get Express Card with Power Reserve.

Express Cards with Power Reserve feature which is included in the iPhone SE 2020 edition also included in the ‌iPhone XS, 11‌ and 11 Pro, allows for authentication of Express Transit cards even when an ‌iPhone‌'s battery is exhausted. It can also be used for the "CarKey" function that Apple has in the works which will let an ‌iPhone‌ serve as an alternative to a traditional car key in vehicles that support the feature.

Lets not forget the iPhone SE 2020 edition supports more bands than the iPhone 8:

iPhone SE 2020 FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66, 71)
TD‑LTE (Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48)

iPhone 8: FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66)
TD‑LTE(Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41)

Overall the iPhone SE 2020 is a great iPhone especially for the price.

Only the iPhone 11,11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, and now the New SE 2020 edition iPhone have wifi 6.
Also the iPad Pro 2020 is the only iPad to get wifi 6 standard 802.11/a/b/g/n/ac/ax.
