I pay $184.09 for 4 lines on T-Mobile Simple Choice. Coupled with the dining rewards, free internet on flights and the other perks, I feel it is a good deal. I don’t know how some people are paying so darn much!

If you ask me, anything over $100/month for four lines is too much, but if the perks work for you, have at.

Another sign that they'll get bought by SpaceX in the next year or two. The current execs are going to squeeze any last dime out of people they can before they're out of a job and the entire company gets streamlined from the top down.
out of curiosity, how will this help space x?

for what it's worth, I almost never travel to the other side of the country. I would be perfectly fine with a regional plan for a cheaper price.
I suspect this wouldn’t work… I bet they need everyone in cities to pay the same rate as in the boonies to subsidize nationwide service, otherwise no one in rural areas would be able to afford service.

Paying $25 (no taxes or fees) and can jump to any network I want in a minute with USMobile. Same towers. NEVER had an issue with service, been with them for 4 years or so. I keep telling people and for some reason they're terrified to stop paying $90-$120 a month for the same thing.

I have the same issue in my own family.
Some of them are convinced the service is "better" on first party.

Even if it were possibly true in some circumstances, is it worth paying 2-6x all the time?

(no)

I keep telling my cousin that her incessant doomscrolling on FB/Insta/TikTok will all still work just fine on USM. 😂

Have you traveled internationally with them? I asked this here, but no one responded

Yes, we have traveled several times to Japan, Europe, Mexico, and Canada. It’s really nice to have free connection at a decent speed and free text. The $0.50/minute phone calls are also great when you really need to reach someone now, and that someone is not responding to texts. Also, when traveling, you can have access to the maps, information, etc., at no cost. It's really convenient.

Edit: forgot to say that with my wife we have the Magenta55+ plan

Yep, this comes up every time any US carrier plan is mentioned. Every time, some people from Europe (often quite a few) rush to tell us how much better their plans are. Every time. We get it. Your phone plans are better.

I think most Europeans have no concept of just how extremely ginormous (and in some areas, sparse) the US is. It takes an awful lot of towers in relatively unpopulated areas to cover it all, towers which still cost a lot even if they're not getting much traffic. And yeah, the industry needs more regulation and more actual competition. But, we get it: your phone plans are better.

Seems like a lot of people don't realize that. Europe and the US are totally different places when one considers simple geography. This argument comes up when discussing things like public transportation, high speed rail, car ownership, etc. The two are just vastly different. Neither better or worse, just different.

I believe Starlink is T-Mobile's satellite provider. There is talk of Space X/Musk having an interest in T-Mobile.

Which afterwards it certainly won't be T-Mobile anymore. It'll be X-Mobile or SOMETHING "X".

I mean, Musk can probably buy it. I hear he's got a lot of coin.

Moving people around and raising rates seems like a very VZW thing to do. I'm a VZW customer and I'm pretty happy with the service. Happy enough to keep it. But their coverage at my office is dog poop. I plan on retiring from this place in a year or 2 and getting a different job, so circumstances may change.

T-Mobile’s former CEO, John Legere, is somewhat like Steve Jobs in that he prioritizes customers, whereas the two CEOs that succeeded Legere, first Mike Sievert and now Srini Goplan, are somewhat like Tim Cook in that they prioritize maximizing profits.
You bring up a good point, if not anything but inadvertently. John Lehrer and Tim Cook have one “surprising” thing in common. They gave the customers what they wanted as evidenced by both companies growth during their respective time frames.

Moving a customer into another plan automatically, without notice is not the epitome of customers service.

Been with them for 5+ years and very happy. Can’t beat the $25 after taxes for an unlimited plan. Hopefully, they don’t get inspired by T-Mo and force their newer, expensive plans on us.

I have a feeling they'll have no choice at some point whenever pricing for them gets updated by T-Mo.

(not sure how that works ... might be an agreement for x amount of time, etc)

I got the text message a few hours ago. Will do some homework tonight.
I have never been a Verizon customer but their new plans are more like our Spectrum plans at $30 a month with no subsidized phones (though there are phone sales sometimes).

It’s amazing how we keep seeing examples of companies driven to the brink of bankruptcy because of chasing profits, and then those companies recover when someone actually cares about the customers.

And yet it keeps happening.

I think they pay by the gig to the major carriers.
Alternatives would be Visible or Mint, but their CS sucks from what I’ve heard, so I might still be sticking with USM.

I am on the Simple Choice plan (I assumed my wife’s plan 15 years ago) at about $135 for 5 lines. So far I have not received an email but need to start looking at what else is out there. Tmobile used to be great but has gone steadily downhill over the past few years

Buy the phone from Apple and pick any provider. You don’t need a new phone every year, I go three to four years. Financing through the cell providers is a suckers play.
Yeah, but if you want to do the ACMI, you have to choose a provider (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or Boost)

The workaround still works with the T-Mobile variant, but I am sure that will be fixed. So then if you have Visible or something, you can't do ACMI is what I mean.

This is exactly how cell phone plans worked in the early days, and it was terrible. No way we're going back to that.

Same. I've seen some reassurance that some variants of SC may not be affected, at least by price increases (plan changes may still happen). There's always so much misinformation about these sorts of things, so who knows? I'm definitely looking at other carriers, though, after 13-ish years with TMo.

Because this is what business schools keep teaching people who are about to enter the business world. Deutsche Telekom was trying to dump T-Mobile for several years before John Legere became CEO and decided to run the company instead of playing games with proposed mergers and corporate finance. TMO’s growth was staggering when Legere was taking care of customers. But, as soon as he was gone, the emphasis was on milking subscribers for short-term profit.

Business schools teach students that the ONLY reason for ANY company to be in business is to make money and funnel as much as it can to shareholders as quickly as possible. Don’t worry about anything beyond three fiscal quarters down the road. And that’s why we see these executives execute the plans they have been taught… and proceed to wreck one company after the other.

As Gordon Gecko once said, “Greed is good.”

$25/mo is for one year only (now) then goes to $44/mo.
