So, according to the T-mobile site my 55+ Magenta plan that costs $70 and does everything I need will now be a Go5g $100. I believe that is a 42% increase. Can I call BS?
There is a Go5g 55+ plan for $80, which is where the Magenta 55+ will migrate. Unfortunately, it has almost exactly the same features, and isn't worth it for me.

I have Mint and love the service, but with T-Mobile looking to buy Mint Mobile I'm afraid they'll pull something shady like this too, or raise prices, or stop giving free data increases with each plan every other year like they have since 2019.

In 2019, the base $15/mo plan went from 2GB to 3GB. In 2021, it increased from 3GB to 4GB. And this past April, they raised it from 4GB to 5GB.

Meanwhile, the $20/mo plan went from 5GB to 8GB in 2019, then the 8GB plan increased to 10GB in 2021, and this year it went from 10GB to 15GB.

The $25/mo plan rose from 10GB to 12GB in 2019, it increased from 12GB to 15GB in 2021 and it went from 15GB to 20GB in April.

Let's see what happens in 2025.
They did buy it I believe.

But this is only temporary, correct? They aren't going to leave you there permanently, just for a short period, while you figure out what you want to do about it (leave or eventually accept it).
The agent told me it will remain for the foreseeable future , I'm definitely taking that with a grain of salt.

I'm on the T-Mobile Essentials plan and I pay 18 dollars a month taxes included. I don't want anything else. It more than meets my needs and I have Wi-Fi in my utilities and free Wi-Fi at work.
The fine print (that isn't actually fine print) are those people on the Magenta, One, and Magenta 55+ being moved to this "new plan". If you are not on any of those mentioned plan names, you will not be affected. Shady practice? Yes. But the anxiety everyone is having over this is not necessarily warranted unless you are on one of those plans.

I have the One Plus Promo (3 lines with kickback), called with a rep, already knew about the migration option and opted me out. See it also now in my account. Will see for how long it will last.

I left T-Mobile and went to Spectrum. I hate Spectrum, but with the discount I’m now getting on my atrociously overpriced home internet plan I’m basically paying negative $5/month for 2 mobile phones for the next year.

Do you have WiFi at home? If so, you don’t need to have T-Mobile cell signal in the house. With your iPhone, you can use WiFi for cell calls through T-Mobile.
That is a good suggestion and you're right about that. I do have Wi-Fi at home and always have Wi-Fi calling enabled on my iPhone. However, a big reason as to why I don't switch to T-Mobile is because in the event of an emergency, I want a reliable cellular phone signal in case my home Internet service or electricity is not working.

So today, I just switched to T-Mobile. Reason being that my former AT&T plan had also increased. For the last time that is. I was told by T-Mobile that my price will remain.... FOREVER!!! We all know that's BS, but it was nice to hear.

I’m on the One plan. I’ll have to make sure to keep an eye out for the notification.
T-Mobile has been nothing but helpful for me but by my information I found most changes will not change just more feautures will be added to the plan but if this isn’t the case I will have no aother alternative to jump ship to another carrier

Didn't the "un-contract" only apply to Simple Choice plans? I think the current Essential Saver plan is better and can be available at the same price as the old Simple Choice plan.
Nope. It’s people who didn’t get a free phone from T-Mobile.

I have two lines on Magenta 55+ which is $70 (with autopay from bank account). The new Go5G 55+ plan is essentially the same, but $100 (with autopay from bank account), so an increase of $30 or 43%. I switched to T-Mobile from Verizon after they did something similar and we both turned 55. Such a deal! The service has been fine, and we actually get a better signal with T-Mobile at our house then we did with Verizon. But...this is pretty bad on top of T-Mobile's seemingly never ending data security lapses.

Sell phone privately (~$850 for a 14 Pro Max) and accept that while you left $250 on the table with a carrier, it’s your phone and you can take it anywhere at any time.

Yeah that totally makes sense. For me I don't care much as I don't plan on moving carriers, ATT is just as bad, and the very few bucks I might save on Tmobile don't outweigh the loss of coverage. Even MVNO's aren't competitive when it comes to family/multiple lines and extras such as smartwatches and LTE extenders and I've found often they cost more than post-paid. So I'm stuck with Verizon post-paid for the foreseeable future. I have purchased my last 3 or 4 phones outright though, especially my last 2 which were Galaxy Folds because Samsung gives such outrageously high trade in values.

I'm not sure that's universally true, although I can only offer my single sample of N=1. I have a LTE extender from Verizon, otherwise I don't get any signal in my house on Verizon, Tmobile, or ATT, I have no idea why other than the suspicion that my house used to be a Faraday cage in a botched science experiment involving aliens, but I digress.

Wifi calling for me is a complete disaster. Dropped calls, calls echo, garbled like underwater, and handing off from WiFi to cellular (like getting in the car in the morning while on a call) almost always means a dropped call.

Usual "but we provide more value, we give you 5GB more mobile hotspot". I get John Legere said some things during his time there but Mike Sievert has been running TM for awhile now and everyone wants to pump up the revenue and it practically costs them nothing nowadays to increase caps for a quick buck.

I refuse to use wi-fi calling in the house anymore because it's wonky and the handoff isn't always perfect. T-Mobile tower is barely a mile away, so I'm not getting any benefit. Never any issue with 5G.

Two lines on Magenta 55+ are $70/month but two lines on Go5G 55 are $80/month which is only around 14% higher.

Similar to what VZW pulled by having an old plan surcharge. The new plan would have been about $10/mo more for me but the surcharge was $3-4 if I remember correctly.

I promptly switched to a pre-pay plan and saved BIG $$.
That Verizon increase is why I left them after 20 years. I ported 4 numbers to TMO.
TMO gives you the option to “opt out” of a plan change …..VZW didn’t.
Netflix is another company that got greedy. So I dumped them too. But I still get Netflix because it’s included with T-Mobile’s Go5G plan.
