Well 4.4 million, 3 straight blowout quarters, I would say Uncarrier is definitely working. They are pulling in lots of disgruntled customers from AT&T and Sprint. It appears that the coverage is good enough for most people and people are valuing the lower prices more than the coverage provided by AT&T. I'm anxious to see AT&T's next reaction.

Thanks! I have Verizon right now, and so far my experience has been positive (the price aside). Although, I always felt that Verizon's LTE is on the slower end comparing to ATT and Tmobile. I still got almost 10 months until my contract is over, so I have sometime to do my homework.

I get 58 down in my VZE LTE speedtest at home. So if Verizon is slow ATT and Tmobile must be blazing. My speedtest is posted in the LTE thread.

You might be in a great Verizon spot then! If i got those speeds and my coverage was good...there is no way I would think about switching carriers!
Those are great speeds!

People forget something important.

A lot of new customers means T-Mobile can get more towers in order to expand their coverage to attract more business. However, a lot of customers aren't going to inspire AT&T or VZW to stop their insane business practices, in fact the opposite is true.

We use to have Verizon and now AT&T. Verizon couldn't compete with AT&T with the LTE speeds here in San Antonio. I just did this test right now at 12:00pm noon and this is what I got on AT&T. We are moving though to a area where AT&T is not as good and the speeds are pretty bad. We maybe switching again.

That's good for you, but than again it's all area dependent so that doesn't really mean much to me. I live near a major city, and I hardly break 5 down on LTE with Verizon (iPhone 5). Frankly I don't really care, as long as it works when I need it to work. I guess I made the comment about Verizon being slower, because of the few previous cities I have stayed at, I typically hardly break a 20 down on LTE.

The fastest I have gotten is in Nashville, TN, which I think I topped 60 down.

Well I was all set to convince my family to switch to T-Mobile, then I remembered my brother now lives in Durham, NC and I checked out the RootMetrics reports for DFW and Durham.....AT&T wins hands down in both places.....

Is it worth paying less? Looks like T-Mobile is on the rise, but is now the time to switch? Not so sure anymore.....

There's nothing insane about AT&T's or VZW's business practices. Their networks are more complex than T-Mobiles and are therefore worth more per month (in the eyes of the market).

Really the difference in pricing isn't as staggering as drama queens such as yourself make it out to be. I could switch my family over to a less reliable, slower LTE network and pay roughly $80/month less (not taking into account the device subsidies we get on AT&T).

Worth it? Perhaps for some, and not for others. But nothing about it is insane. Usually you pay more for a better product. At this point, AT&T and VZW put out the best products. But T-Mobile is on the move.

EDIT: Rootmetrics scores for each place (Durham didn't have an overall score pic).

Durham, NC August 2013
1 AT&T 11111 99
2 Verizon 11112 88
3 T-Mobile 1111 77
4 Sprint 1111 72

I understand what you are saying, the service has to work for you. I don't care that I get 58 down as on wifi I can get 101 down, so LTE is never used except to do speed tests.

Outside of the home, I haven't tested.

A lot of customers for T-Mobile will mean AT&T and Verizon will have to step up to compete.

If they increase the price to maintain profit, they will see more customers flee.

If they decrease the price, they will retain customers.

Look at Sprint. It lost a lot of customers to T-Mobile in the past year. What did Sprint do? It lowers the price and imitate T-Mobile plans.

It is only 7-10 lines that get you the $25 per line per month deal.

nexusae0_support_sprint_easy_pay_thumb.jpg

T-Mobile USA offer better deals with 5 lines at $22 per line, though it only has 500MB vs 1GB on Sprint

1st line: $50
2nd line: $30
3rd line: $10
4th line: $10
5th line: $10

$22 per line at 5 lines

Each line will have unlimited talk, unlimited text, 500MB of LTE and unlimited 2G

+ $10 to any line to upgrade to 2.5GB of LTE data
+ $20 to any line to upgrade to unlimited LTE data

Cost per line: 1 line, 2 line, 3 line, 4 line, 5 line

Sprint:... $55, $50, $45, $40, $35
T-Mobile: $50, $40, $30, $25, $22

1.65 million net customer adds. How many of these are voice lines and how many are the free 200MB data plans for the ipad? I have to assume everyone that signs up for free data on the ipad counts as a customer add. Which is certainly great for TMo, but what is their ARPU looking like?

Regardless, I like their strategy and I like that their shakeup of the industry is forcing AT&T and VZW to make some changes.

Just have been looking at Sensorly.com and noticed that T-Mobile coverage in the east coast is getting better. I see places where it used to be EDGE is now HSPA. It's probably still on the old backhaul but progress. I-95 from Boston to NYC is now showing green instead of blue. Can anyone confirm?

can u explain to me how Att network is more complex that T-Mobile.

Larger, cover more people, faster etc....

Complex may have been the wrong word. At the moment, AT&T and VZW have "better" networks with regards to the above metrics.

I think my course of action on this will be to wait until the iPhone 6 comes out and switch. By then, T-Mobile will be well into their 2014 rollout plans and will likely rival AT&T and VZW (at least in the markets I'm concerned about). From what I've read, this ETF paying thing isn't temporary.

they have better frequencies that they paid a lot more money for and they have LTE coverage in places where there are few people. most coverage for roads and some other rural areas because people are willing to pay for the coverage when they drive out there

The equipment is the same with the exception being T-Mobile has newer, a huge advantage. How much more did Att pay over T-Mobile for spectrum? Lower frequency does not always mean better.

That doesn't mean it's more complex. Just means they own more spectrum. They use the same technology and equipment for their networks.

Auctally tmobiles equipment is more advanced and supports LTE advanced while atnt's equipment doesn't.....

lower means better building penetration. i've used all 4 carriers in NYC or have seen people with them

vzw/att are the largest networks around the country where you can drive on deserted highways and get a HSPA/CDMA or better signal
sprint is crap, even in NYC
t-mo is OK but people i know on it have always had dropped calls, although that was with old phones. and when my att iphone had HSPA signal people with t-mo would have edge.

i'll probably go with t-mo next year but they do have a smaller and less complex network. AT&T and verizon still support old tech from the late 90's

I'm getting better building penetration with T-Mobile going from 5MHz to 10Mhz. Hopefully I'll get a even bigger jump when T-Mobile moves to 20 MHz. Hopefully New York will be getting 700 MHz

Nice they will continue with their superior network and giving great coverage to 220+ million. It's hard to beat 40mbs unlimited data

Speak for yourself. It isn't for me. I live near Tamp, Florida

LOL, do you work for AT&T or Verizon? You're constantly bash T-Mobile. T-Mobile made a strategic move and focus their network in areas where the most people are. I have great coverage in the Minneapolis market. For most people, T-Mobile works great. Sure people who live in rural areas can't get it but that's a small majority compared to the rest of the 250 million people who are covered by them.

People are going to continue to get sick of paying AT&T and Verizon's prices and are going to continue to flow towards T-Mobile because of the things like no annual contract and being able to switch devices twice a year w/ T-Mo & JUMP. AT&T's NEXT program & Verizon Edge are desperate and pathetically executed versions of JUMP! that pale in comparison. T-Mobile has made tremendous strides in less than a year. They are only going to get better.

Where do you get this information ? Do you have a link of some kind or do you have a Crystal Ball ?

I love it when so called know it alls on this and any forum throw out "they know it all" facts without links.
