First rep told me that I have to be active with them for 40 days before they can unlock. When I bought the phone the salesperson told me I would be able to use this phone internationally. I called again and told the rep that I want to return the phone she asked why? I explained her that I am travelling out of the US this weekend and if they cant unlock it I want to return the phone. she processed the unlock request.

Did you have the iPhone active on their network for 7 days? That is one o the requirements.

This phone (iphone 5s) is awesome! loving the touch id and also ios 7 very colorful and elegant!

While I understand being confused by the Verizon model or whatever, the product description for the 'Tmobile model' is pretty direct?

The second to last sentence is unequivocal. Not sure if this thread is a joke or what.

I'd have agreed with you, but Samsung just announced that the Note 3 will be region locked. I.e. a Galaxy Note 3 purchased in Europe will work with SIM cards all across Europe, but not the US, and vice versa.

Also, Sprint iPhones can be unlocked for non-US SIM cards, but they won't work on a single US network other than Sprint.

Even though at this point it should be common knowledge, some people are still confused about the Verizon iPhone 5s being unlocked on GSM networks such as AT&T and T-mobile. So here is some video evidence:

I just ran the numbers, The no contract option costs $18 more over 2 years than the regular contract option. You're paying 2% interest BY utilizing AT&T Next.

Image

Wait, you're talking about Next. Isn't that a way to early-upgrade? That's more of a scam than regular 2-year contracts. My point is about buying it with no contract or subsidy and using a-la-carte services from AT&T. Can you break down those numbers? I sort of remember doing it rough and figured over 1000 dollars spent on paying for the device. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The N9000/N9005 is Region Locked but you are fine as long as you insert your local sim and activate the phone for the first time in your local region and not the region you bought the phone from. It will be unlocked. For example, you bought the phone from Europe..turned on the phone in the US and insert your AT&T sim for the first time. It will be unlocked without issues. This is what Samsung explained on their recent statement.

LOL Looks like Apple has left something to tell us the T-Mobile phones are unlocked...

Good find! :)

AT&T purchased at retail Apple Store works with european sim

Purchased 5S AT&T full price at Apple Store Grand Central in NYC today. Apple rep said he can't say if it's locked or not. I've swapped sim cards before turning on (fun fact, you don't get the pin tool to eject tray, nobody in the store got it). Inserted foregin (Polish) T-Mobile card and activated the phone without hassle. Have NOT tried US T-Mobile sim though.

wait a minute, wait a minute!

So, after reading all posts from this thread, can ANYONE confirm that T-mobile version is REALLY unlocked?...

I just need to be 100% sure.

How does wifi tethering work on iOS devices? Do they need to be unlocked before you can use it without carrier restriction?
I've seen an AT&T locked device, and when you try to turn on tethering it says you have to add it to your plan.
I'm coming from android where you just flip the switch and it works.

Do I get a menu to change my APN? or is that for unlocked only?

Can anyone with the 5S confirm they can access an APN menu?

Since I bought a 64gb T-mobile Unlocked phone from Apple could I Take It to Verizon If I Wanted too?

Nope

I believe to get unrestricted tethering there would need to be a jailbreak for the iPhone and you can use an app like mywi or pdanet (if they become compatible with iOS 7) :) ....not sure about tetherme.

My wife went to the mall today so I called her up and asked to buy me an iPhone 5s. I asked her to buy one under my att account. It seems she has some miss understanding with the sales guy and she turned up buying a att iPhone 5s 64gb on full price. She asked they guys is it unlocked since I am paying the full price he said no it is a locked phone. She came home showed me the phone and all that. So I said I'll try putting in one of my international SIM cards to c if it would work. Guess what It worked and it is unlocked. Just sharing what happened with me.

Did anyone else experience the same ?

Apple employee's aren't suppose to say they're unlocked..

But like what other's have posted in the past few pages. Anything "Device Only" meaning full price AT&T iPhone 5s is unlocked... Restore it to original via iTunes and you'll get the message.

You need to have tethering on your plan with AT&T and there's a switch on the phone in the settings to turn it on.

Stupid Question

Or maybe not so stupid...

If i buy a T-Mobile iPhone 5S with a bad IMEI (probably lost or account due) at eBay.

Will I be able to use it outside the U.S. as it should be unlocked?

Thank you!

Bad IMEI number? You mean reported as stolen?

Probably.

However, if it actually is stolen, good luck activating it without the original owners Apple ID. If it's bad IMEI for contract reasons, it'll work fine.

Currently, all Apple's 5s are locked to carriers initially only to be unlocked at carrier's discretion. This is the policy.

Any Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile iPhone bought device-only from an Apple retail store is unlocked. It's been that way at least since the iPhone 4S.

Also all Verizon LTE phones are unlocked. Every single one of them. iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, dumb phone, contract, or non-contract. All are unlocked.
