WOW...your lucky...I have called 2 different stores and they have told me the same thing...to mail it back...usps
I turned in my old phone yesterday at a T-Mobile store and they took it and zeroed out the balance on it. Had no problems and the process was quick.

My box was all damaged and sh*t. I was angry.

My iPhones box wasn't wrapped in plastic or anything. Just in the shipping bag. box was damaged and all

When I think damaged, I think this:

I know it's not really favored to have a slightly damaged box. However, if the phone is fine, the box did it's job. That's how I see it.

Im upset over the box because that shows that the damage could have caused your phone to fail because of unseen damage.

These boxes are wide on the corners to sustain a drop. Imagine how many thousands of these devices were being tossed plane to plane from Foxconn. They undergo some really heavy testing, their boxes were created to protect the phone.

If you truly feel it's that big of a deal, go to an Apple store or contact their customer care. Explain your concerns. They are good at helping customers.

I worried about my phone actually. if you see bunch of marks on your box wouldn't you not be worried about your phone???
Please understand that this may read as a smart ass remark, but it's not.

The box is made to protect the device. And honestly, it does a very good job. You'd need to drop that thing out of a plane, or have many hundreds of pounds crushing it to have damage to the device within. I just decided to stand, with all my weight (199 pounds), on a 6s box and it BARELY bowed. Apple has some of the best packaging in the industry imo.

But really, the better evidence that the box did its job is that there hasn't been a single person reporting their phone arrived cracked, dented, broken, etc. in sure we would see pics and all if this was the case.

I can understand wanting a mint box. But I can also understand TMO's stance on shipping. They're saving tens of thousands of dollars, most likely, by shipping in bags. All the while this upsets maybe a percent of their customers.

Success!! I finally got a T-MO store to take my 6+ and got a receipt saying my lease status is CLOSED...So, get the store to take your JOD old devices. Thanks everyone for the help!!

Success! I just came back from the second closest store and the associate there Daniel was able to help me close out the lease successfully. He looked at my account and said it appeared as if I had 2 leases on the same phone number. How can this even happen? Even he was befuddled by this. Whoever took my pre-order over the phone did not process it as an upgrade properly resulting in this situation. Daniel quickly called customer care and got a person who was knowledgeable about this situation and was able to fix this for me. Within 5 minutes he printed a receipt that indicates my previous lease was closed and he took my phone. I'm a happy camper. :D

I agree, and the box is important to many. I have every generation iPhone, and the boxes are fascinating to look at over time. Mine all still look great too even going back to 2007.
It can also help with resell if your packaging is in top shape. If a box didn't matter, Apple wouldn't put so much into their packaging. Plus, look how carefully the phones are packaged when they are shipped direct from Apple. You won't find your fancy iPhone box damaged if it's shipped by Apple. T-Mobile should up there game in this regard, otherwise, for now, people should just pay full price at Apple.

While it is true the box the iPhone comes in is supposed to protect it, Apple does not ship them this way, in fact, the iPhones I had shipped to me in past (Apple, AT&T) were packed inside of another corrugated cardboard box. Whether corrugated cardboard or bubble wrap offers better protection to the actual iphone inside of the box is debatable...yes the iPhone box can get dented inside the bubble wrap, but, is the phone itself damaged? Probably not. Although, I do think it could be a matter of what delivery system is used. If I recall correctly, I think Apple & AT&T used Fed-Ex...UPS is known for more mishandling of items than the others...at least, in my experience. I also think that, with the box loose inside the bubble wrap bag, it's more likely to move around and get bumped, and the bag itself is not as stable/firm to handle as a box. But, again, is the phone itself damaged?

I took the plunge and brought my Rose Gold 42mm Apple Watch from the Apple Store. So far I'm updating but from the videos on how to use it I know I will love it. People are still lined up outside to see if they can get an iPhone 6s. So many people stared at me and 2 asked how did the preorder go for me. They immediately knew which one I had because of the Rose Gold.

When I get my 6s tomorrow, should I activate the SIM that comes with it, or pop the SIM from my 6 Plus in it?

I called T-Mobile. They gave me. 50 dollar credit and noted on my account that if my phone fails for any reason I won't have to claim my insurance and pay for it.

Between accessories and the phone and apple care I'm about 1400 bucks. I want pristine condition.

Depends on what sim you have now. Has to have a nano SIM card. Save the hassle and use the one you already have now with the activations it can take forever for a new sim to activate and port your number over

Exactly. All the people rejoicing about how they're harassing T-Mobile and getting exorbitant credits for non-issues... they're recouping those losses by saving money elsewhere. So everyone with a beef about the boxes can thank their friends so proud of their credits. As I've said before there is no free lunch. Money has to come from somewhere.
