T-Mobile announced its network modernization plans, which include refarming some of its 2G 1900MHz spectrum to be used for HSPA+ and an LTE deployment

Three things wrong with that statement. First thing is that there is no mention of rural EDGE areas. Second is that 2G has been on 1900 for ages in all areas. They don't specifically mention where. When they say modernization, they could have meant cities, which is exactly what is happening right now. And the very convoluted article that you seem to take as TMo gospel also sort of says that LTE is on PCS, which is wrong because its being deployed on AWS.

Yet again you fail to find any concrete evidence. Well done. I hope your BS continues.

And u fail to find and evidence disproving 2G edge being refarmed to HSPA/HSPA+ .

Again your wrong! Funny how u say T-Mobile is crap but so many on here are enjoying unlimited LTE. Oh did I mention unlimited. Notice how your the only one bashing T-Mobile. I will be in Boston soon can't wait to prove u wrong.

Since you are so adamant about preaching your unlimited plan and how amazing TMobile is, the burden is on you. There is ZERO evidence of it happening ANYWHERE in the US. If it did happen, the idiots over at TMonews.com would be having a field day with it.

Sure. Come to Brookline, Fenway area. I want GPS and Time coded speed tests. There's no LTE there up yet, so no use trying to preach about that ;)

The article about "modernizing" was just talking about refarming 1900mhz IN CITIES for HSPA+ to make room for LTE on the AWS 1700/2100 bands. There is no mention anywhere of upgrading rural areas to 3G. No evidence of it either like the other user pointed out above. All you see is LTE popping up in places that already have HSPA+. T-Mobile still has yet to commit to rural 3G upgrades. One of their executives (I think Neville) admitted that not having access to low frequency bands for 3G makes it difficult and expensive for them to rollout rural HSPA+. So in other words, unless T-Mobile gets that 600mhz spectrum next year or gets some large cash infusion, they will remain a 2G network outside of the cities.

Question for current T-Mobile users... If you have the $70 dollar unlimited data plan, how much data did you use and at what point were you slowed to EDGE speeds or 3G?

I used 11 GB in one month and never got slowed down. It is truly unlimited. I tethered quite a bit and downloaded all kinds of music from iTunes Match just because I could and the speeds were excellent the entire time.

Now I have the $30 5GB 100 minute plan because the unlimited plan is overkill for me.

It's truly unlimited, no data throttling. I'm at 9 gb already for this month and still getting "4G" speeds; however, you only get 500 mb tethering though with that $70 plan.

Last month I used 68gb, this billing cycle I'm at 10gb. As far as I know tmobile does not throttle the $70 plan.

What's the point of getting AWS? More LTE? That's not their issue. It's that they don't have enough HSPA up.

Again, that picture you posted up has nothing to do with EDGE areas. It's for the areas with HSPA already. They are refarming AWS HSPA to PCS to open up space for LTE on AWS. They're turning down EDGE, in these areas too. I don't understand why it is so hard for you to grasp.

There's a difference between ignorance and just plain not being able to understand what it is going not. I think you're leaning towards ignorance.

What u don't grasp is that a lot of that edge will be turned into HSPA/HSPA+

and still you have zero evidence to prove me otherwise. You have only posted articles about how places with HSPA already are merely getting refarmed to PCS. The AWS licenses they're buying are only for LTE, again, not the issue at hand, because GSM/EDGE is on PCS, not AWS.

I have to agree with Autounion39 on this. T-Mobile while great in the cities, they have too much EDGE. While I know T-mobile is refarming to 1900mhz and also getting more spectrum from MetroPCS and US Cellular now, it still doesn't address any upgrading for EDGE only areas.

There still has not been any commitment from T-Mobile or talk about them upgrading these areas. What would convince us is when we hear, "we are now upgrading all EDGE area's to 3G and LTE". Until that is what the CEO says, it's going to be hard to believe. Yes, they are getting LTE up in already HSPA+ area's but that doesn't mean EDGE will be HSPA/HSPA+ automatically as well.

I hope T-Mobile does upgrade since I want them to succeed. But I agree... T-Mobile is Fantastic!

Curious we're are these edge only areas? And how many of us does it effect?

Just go to t-mobile website and see coverage and drill into the areas outside of the cities. You need to drill far enough into an area to see them. The website doesn't show edge only areas when you view it at a state level or larger. Check out the surrounding Boston area to the west/Northwest. That's probably where AutoUnion39 always talks about when he says Boston isn't covered too well. I could be wrong.

How many of us?? I have no idea. Again, in cities, T-Mobile is great. I won't dispute that. Outside of it, it's hard to deny the maps that t-mobile shows.

Yup, I'm a troll for calling out oso's BS.

What does having getting spectrum for a 2x10 LTE network have to do with getting rid of EDGE?

You're still posting here? at least two people have put you in your place already, but I guess some people never quit.

On another note, my experience with T-Mobile has been mixed. I get decent coverage around my home but when I went to my future school, I usually got 1 bar or "No Service." And when I had service it was only EDGE. :( I also don't like how on 4G, there is quite a wait before the download actually starts. I'm not sure if this is T-Mobile's problem, or just the band that the iPhone 4S (the phone I'm using) is using. I hope T-Mobile starts adding a lot more 4G coverage on the 1900 MHz band real soon around my area, because they definitely aren't done yet. At least they're always improving. :)

Ouch, that's a lot. I just sent you a PM.

Hey how did your t-mobile guy do with your credits for switching your service to t-mobile? did it show up on your bill yet? I have switched two lines so far and paid the ETF's and now looking to switch the other two ( and pay a LOT less than I did on big red.. :) )

I would also appreciate your guy's contact info.. thanks!

Been with big red going on 10 years, and its time..... to switch that is...

Everything went exactly as he said. He applied the $1000 credit as promised, and my TMobile bill is currently sitting at -$750, which should last for quite a few billing cycles at $126 a month.

I'm PM you his info.

I recently switched to T-Mobile last weekend.

Reason? AT&T was ripping me off with $140/month for my service. The same service is $60.00 with T-mobile.

I know T-Mobile coverage isn't as good as AT&T or Verizon. But *coverage* only matters to the places you live, visit and go occasionally. In that aspect T-Mobile has excellent coverage 99% of where I am and want to be. But some places I visit often the coverage is zero inside the house but 2 bars outside the house.

So... T-Mobile has this gem of a feature that no one else has called "Wi-Fi Calling". Which means, If you are on WiFi you can enable that feature and all your Cellular calls will be routed through your WIFI network to your cellphone. You can make and recieve calls like you are on a cell network. Your plan minutes still apply.

So what phones support that feature? Only Androids!

So I ditched my trusty iPhone 4S and got an Samsung Galaxy S4. Loving it so far.

And the very inexpensive ($150) Nokia 521 Windows 8 phone also supports WiFi calling. Great as an inexpensive option for the teens and seniors on our accounts. The big Windows 8 squares are a positive and much easier to use for some of our older folks.

Cheers,
