Seriously, people. Just ignore the trolls on here who come into this thread to ***** on T-Mobile because they have nothing better to do. The rest of us can have a constructive conversation about T-Mobile and the pros/cons of switching. If we ignore the trash, they'll move along to somewhere else.

With that said, I just finalized my deal yesterday with TMobile, got all my EFT's from AT&T covered in the switch, plus a bit extra for partial downpayment on two new iPhone 5's. I will be receiving my devices and SIMS hopefully today (com'mon, UPS, don't let me down with that delivery!). Best part is, my bill before was $260 on AT&T, without unlimited calling and text, for 5 lines. My new bill with T-Mobile will be $126 for the same 5 lines, and all 5 lines now have unlimited calls and texts, and as much or more data on each line than I had with AT&T. For over a 50% savings, I honestly don't care if I don't have the fastest coverage 100% of the time. Great. AT&T speed may be 20 Mbs vs TMobile getting 10 Mbs at a certain loation. Who cares!? Saving over $1500 a year is worth it.

I'll report back on how the coverage is here in the Detroit area in the next day or so, after I get things set up tonight.

$125 for five lines? I call serious BS.

Yeah to get the bill that cheap he/she probably has most of his/her lines on 500MB of data and has a discount. Probably isn't including the monthly payment for the iPhone 5 either unless they paid for it outright.

They seem to be matching Sprint's LTE speeds with their HSPA, which is pretty good.

Thanks for that link!

I was on that site before I posed my question and I was just looking up
the map coverage. It *looked* OK in my area comparing it to ATT.

Looking at your link though, should I be worried about the combined score?
Didn't score as well as ATT but it still scored well.

Is anyone from ATT switching over to TMO online or is everyone going to a TMO store and doing it there? My contract is up in December, so I'm really not in a hurry to do this.

Although saving some $$ should light that fire under my arse to get up and switch.

I don't think you have to worry. As long as its green, I think you'll be just fine.

What I intend to do (haven't switched from AT&T yet) is pick up a prepaid Tmobile SIM, forward my AT&T number, and try it out for a couple days, then have the relevant others on my family plan do the same with the prepaid sim. That should give a good feel as to real coverage where we need it.

Saving big is one of the reasons I dropped Sprint. I assume you are not including the monthly equipment purchase charges in that $126.

Cheers,

Sorry. Yes, I'm not including those, as I paid outright for one of the phones, and the other was pretty much covered by the credit the tmobile rep gave me and I paid the rest. That was on top of the rest of the credit the rep gave me to cover ETF's. Basically, he gave me an awesome deal, and I couldn't pass up.

Sorry everyone for the confusion. See my post above about the phones. Yes, those aren't included. Wasn't originally planning to even buy phones (could have brought over 4S's from AT&T), but got such a good credit from the rep ($200 per line x 5 lines), had enough left over after EFT's to help with the iP5's. As for the monthly bill:

$50 for 1st line with unlm calls & text + 500MB
$20 for 4.5GB of extra data on line 1
$30 for 2nd line with unlm calls & text + 500MB
$9.99 for 3rd line with unlm calls & text + 500MB
$10 for 2.5 GB of extra data on line 3
$9.99 for 4th line with unlm calls & text + 500MB
$9.99 for 5th line with unlm calls & text + 500MB

=$139 total - 15% major auto company discount = $118 + 6% sales tax = $126.

Thanks for the clarification, that makes sense then.

The $200/line credit is intriguing. Did you commit to contract to achieve that? Sounds like you worked out a deal over the phone vs. in-store?

No contract, and no deposit (as I have good credit). I was really surprised by him offering that to me as well, without having to commit to any contract. I was referred to him from another Macrumors user on this site. He's out of Chicago, and I live in Detroit, so everything was over the phone and email. I guess he's a small business rep, who can also do personal accounts too, so I'm thinking he has more power to authorize credits, vs a regular store employee. He offered me the $200 credit per line right up front. I didn't even have to negotiate for it. And he applies it in one lump sum on the first bill.

If you want his number, let me know, and I can IM it to you.

Same here! I need it too. Need to switch from AT&T to Tmo, they have great coverage here in Seattle, only thing holding me back is my contract.

So with all this LTE popping up in existing HSPA+ areas, has T-Mobile stated anything about upgrading EDGE areas to at least 3G yet?

I read an article back in 2011 where the plan to get rid of edge completely. Hopefully it will happen soon, it may take a couple of years.

Nothing has been said. With Legere's dust bowl comments, it seems that his company and him couldn't care less about the EDGE markets.

Deploying 3G on 1900mzh will make some improvements, but using 1900/AWS for 3G will have a very difficult time penetrating buildings. This is where T-Mobile needs to up their game and aggressively go after the 600mhz. They NEED it!!!

My AT&T iPhones stay LOCKED on 3G/H+. T-Mobile likes to fluctuate back and fourth from Edge to H+ in good markets.

Just switched from ATT to TMO.
Waiting for the activation to kick in.

Went to the first TMO store and the rep tried to push a new phone on me
when I said all I wanted was to port my number and bring my own phone.
On and on how TMO phones are faster, I'm not going to be happy with my 4S, 2G speeds, etc... Said thank you, I'll be back and walked out.

Went to the 2nd TMO store and in/out in about 10 minutes.
No one tried to push a new phone on me or even ask if I wanted one.

Thanks for this thread and to all who have helped out!

No it doesn't. Legere hasn't said anything about EDGE areas. They have only touched major metro areas. Not the areas in between them
Wrong! Again ! Stop trying to mislead everyone with your T-Mobile bashing. But here is one of many links that mention.

Can someone help out here...

With ATT I was able to save iPad contacts to my favorites
in the phone icon. No numbers, just ME email addresses.

With TMO, I can't add do that.
When I go to favorites and try to add an iPad contact (email only),
I get an error that says no telephone number.

Is there a way to do this?

Link is a year old. And that says nothing about the EDGE areas. You fail again.

Thanks!

Can you please IM me his number? Need to get some lines off of Sprint.

try reading it! But here is the beginning of the article one of many.

T-Mobile announced its network modernization plans, which include refarming some of its 2G 1900MHz spectrum to be used for HSPA+ and an LTE deployment
